Positive blood negative biopsy
cristiana replied to Randommuwa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello there, I thought I'd chime in to say that when I was diagnosed I had villous damage and also cramping, gas, diarrhea, as well as gastritis. My blood results were through the roof (Ttg over 100). However, a few years into my recovery I some of those symptoms started up again. At this point my Ttg was over 80. I made changes to my... -
Teenage son and symptoms
cristiana replied to Abby357's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Abby Welcome to the forum. Firstly, it does sound a long time to be waiting for results. I don't know where you live - I'm in the UK - but I'm told it normally takes 4 days for our labs to get the results back so if I have an appointment on Tuesday, I make sure my blood is taken at the latest Thursday. That said, there are some huge backlogs... -
Endoscopy
cristiana replied to Mama2alot's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Mama2alot and welcome to the forum! I cannot say that I have ever seen that term before. However, what I can tell you is that when I was diagnosed, here in Britain, at around the same time as two other friends, one of them told me her gastroenterologist actually saw the damaged villi during her endoscopy and told her before the biopsies were sent... -
My rash, when it occurs, is on my scalp, shoulders, lower back, chest and belt area. It responds to emollient creams and betnovate cream, a type of topical steroid. I have adult onset eczema, which started last summer. Having read a lot of different comments posted on this forum, while I was having sleepless nights with my own rash, I think the key...

Illinois Bill Moves to Protect Celiacs from Hidden Gluten in Drugs
cristiana commented on Scott Adams's article in Product Labeling Regulations
I spoke to a pharmacy about this in the UK and I was told we already have a system in that any medication with a product licence code on it has to be gluten free. It's very helpful to know that, if there are any Brits reading. The code will appear on the packaging and has the letters PL, followed by a serial number after those letters.- 6 comments

CELIAC DISEASE AND POLYCYTHEMA VERA
cristiana replied to SamIPD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So interesting.... does that happen often i.e. twice in a row? My next blood test isn't until September but if I end up having the autumn Covid booster around that time I shall be interested to see what's happened! -
Hi Bob I see what you mean - the picture does look as if the photographer used frozen peas! Cristiana

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with celiac after getting a private wellman check as I have been feeling very tired lately, no energy and noticed twitches/tics all round my body, mostly in my left calf and some in my right. I was and still am extremely worried this may be a more serious illness and spoke to my doctor who prescribed me with sertraline...

Hello kwagner Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the birth of your baby last year. Reading your symptoms I could have been reading about myself (apart from the fact that my children were 7 and 9 at the time of my diagnosis). It must be tough feeling out of sorts with a young baby to care for, I really hope you begin to feel a lot better...

You are more than welcome, Ollie. Well done for adopting the gluten free diet already! Might be worth sharing the 101 facts with your close family and friends so they can better support you in this. Also, I was told when I was diagnosed to speak to my parents and sibling about being tested too - my parents declined, but my sister, and subsequently my children...

Hi Ollie Welcome to the forum! I am sorry to hear that you are still in severe pain when you eat. Firstly, it can take a while for the gut to start to heal and for some of us celiacs there aren't always instant results on giving up gluten. One of the things that can slow the healing process down is by still having small traces of gluten...

I echo the Magnesium advice. I'm back on it now as I get tingling and twitching from time to time, I think it's to do with inadvertent glutening. I am super sensitive to cross-contamination and when gluten sneaks in, even in tiny amounts, it tends to make my own non-gastric symptoms - twitching muscles, itchy skin and anxiety - much worse. I don...

CELIAC DISEASE AND POLYCYTHEMA VERA
cristiana replied to SamIPD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So interesting. I wanted to post this in case anyone "out there" in the medical world might find it useful. A new treatment?! Anyway, I wonder what the reason might be? Looking forward to finding out what Posterboy's experience was. -
CELIAC DISEASE AND POLYCYTHEMA VERA
cristiana replied to SamIPD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been meaning to report this for some time ... my last haemaglobin test and hematocrit test were within normal levels, first time for a while. Before the blood test I'd pretty much given up taking B12 supplements. But another thing was that I'd had my Covid jab about three weeks beforehand. I was talking to my cousin a few weeks back who had the... -
Just chiming into say that I get costochondritis pain in my left ribs/sternum and have had so for many years. It tends to worsen with heavy lifting, unsurprisingly, but also kicks off badly when I'm glutened. I do think (not sure if this is right) that apart from inflammation making it worse, so does bloating. There have been times when I've had so much...

A Celiac's Quality of Life: Passages
cristiana commented on Janet Blenner, Professor's article in Autumn 2009 Issue
Hi Mandy It is often quite a journey, as you have already discovered, to get to a diagnosis. Your new doctor should be congratulated. I'm so sorry you have had to go through so much but hopefully now you know that the problem is gluten, you can start to make changes that will really improve your health. It can feel very overwhelming at first but...- 6 comments

Hi justthemum Was there an IgE test as well? My levels have recently trebled, and this coincides with the fairly recent appearance of a nasty rash in my scalp, across my shoulders, back and stomach. It calms down if I use regular moisturisers and when it is bad a topical steroid helps. My doctor now says he thinks I have a type of eczema. I...

Do these symptoms fit?
cristiana replied to alittle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello alittle and welcome to the forum! Here in the UK where I live a large percentage of IBS sufferers turn out to be coeliacs when they are finally tested. There was a big campaign about it here a few years ago - the number was astonishing, I think it was nearly a third, although I've just read another figure - one in four. Of course, there can... -

Seronegative 5 year old?
cristiana replied to Karly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Karly Welcome to the forum! I am so sorry to hear about what your son has been going through. The answer is whilst coeliac disease doesn't come and go, for some people its symptoms may. Here in the UK our National Health Service website states as follows: "Symptoms of coeliac disease can range from mild to severe, and often come... -
PS - Iron supplements? These can really cause constipation - if so, perhaps changing to a gentler type?

Hi Dkorm It's very frustrating. I would give peppermint tea a go, if you haven't already. I read somewhere - sorry, cannot remember where - that it can be just as effective as medication for some people, perhaps more so. I had a lot of discomfort for some years and only finally had a colonoscopy just last January 2020. It was then it was concluded...

Hi Dkorm, Welcome to the forum. Where are you on your diagnosis journey with coeliac disease? Apart from blood tests and possibly an endoscopy, have you had a colonoscopy? I occasionally get really painful bouts of IBS-C and you have my sympathy. It tends to strike worst when I've eaten too many rice cakes, of all things! When things get...

Hell Ivanab Welcome to the forum! I'm based in the UK and I would say the best way forward is to go to your GP for a blood test. If you are not currently gluten free, you will be asked to go on a "gluten challenge" before having the blood test and that will mean eating at least two slices of normal bread for a few weeks (when I was tested it was...

Hi Meg Welcome to the Forum. You are going through such a lot at the moment, I'm so sorry. Some people are very sick indeed at the time of diagnosis, others feel perfectly well and the diagnosis comes as a complete surprise as an incidental finding. Some recover really fast, others it's a slower journey. But it is so good that they have arrived...
