Gluten Challenge UK - Feeling rubbish
cristiana replied to Hev75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Hev and welcome to the forum! If you haven't had any gluten/much gluten for a while, and you do have undiagnosed coeliac disease or non-coeliac gluten intolerance, your gut might well be protesting about it! As regards Bran Flakes, I had a particularly hard time with fibre around the time of my diagnosis when my coeliac was at its worse and... -
Hello and welcome to the forum, Flower! I am sorry that you are still encountering symptoms. They can take a while to settle. It is difficult to tell what's going on if you have gastritis as well, as your symptoms could well be attributed to both conditions. I have gastritis too sometimes - I get a burning sore stomach though, not nausea. A few...

Hi Martin I have to say I find labelling a real minefield. As far as I am aware you are quite right - all food products have to state in bold if they contain gluten. That said, over the past few years I have eaten foods containing no such warning and I have had symptoms. Then I google various forums and find out others have had similar issues. Is...

Hi Martin If you are based in the UK - not sure? - you may see the letters PL (Product Licence) followed by a number on the packaging of prescribed and over the counter and prescription medication. I was told by a pharmacist that if these letter appear on a medication it is gluten free. See link below for more info. I've had to supplement from...

Gluten intolerance or celiac I don’t know
cristiana replied to Leslee12's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Leslee Welcome to the Forum! It sounds as if you may well be onto something linking your symptoms to gluten. In Britain (I'm a British member of this forum!) a staggering number of coeliacs are misdiagnosed with IBS every year, and there is a real push from the Coeliac UK charity to address this problem. When it comes to getting a... -
Not sure what this means now
cristiana replied to Ellawells's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Ellawalls I'm chiming in here as I am based in the UK and like you was referred to a consultant once my blood tests came through as positive. In my own case my consultant was very keen to do an endoscopy as he said it was considered to be the "Gold Standard" means of diagnosing coeliac disease. I imagine this is because they can actually take... -
Interpreting blood results
cristiana replied to Scotland007's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Scotland007 - brilliant name, puts me in mind of Sean Connery! You may have already found the Coeliac UK website but if not it's worth a look. https://www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/coeliac-disease/getting-diagnosed/blood-tests-and-biospy/ My friend found herself in your situation. Her GP gave her the full coeliac panel as... -
Welcome to the forum Froggygirl. Have you been told the actual levels of your M Proteins? How do they compare with normal lab readings - these are usually given too, with blood results? I have not had exactly the same problem but I have had many strange blood tests in recent years and I have tried to interpret them using google, but find in the...

Ttg levels
cristiana replied to Chris-B's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Chris It think this varies from individual to individual ... I was diagnosed at around the same time as a couple of friends and one of them found their levels went down very fast. Mine have taken a lot longer to settle. They still aren't as low as I'd like them to be (currently 18ttg) and I've been on the diet for a very long time, but I share the... -
Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks so much knitty kitty, this is really helpful. I'm going to really try to get my D levels better before my blood test, as well as cutting dairy. I don't eat the other stuff but I was thinking about taking a seaweed supplement I read about so I'll give that a miss after all! I've just remembered, too, that I took some antibiotics just before this... -
Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Knitty Kitty No... there's not much sun in England at the moment! But I do find changes in temperature really aggravates things, as does exercising outdoors. It's worse under a hot shower. I also notice that my skin really itches when I lie down but it's the places that are actually in contact with the bed or pillow, when my skin warms up.... -
Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes... I'm beginning to wonder if that's an issue for me. I can't find it now but a story was posted on this site recently about a very sick child whose numbers were stubbornly high until they actually gave up dairy. When I read that I did wonder if dairy had been contributing factor as to why my numbers have taken sooo long to drop. This study is... -
Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I wanted to update this as my problems with itchy skin has progressed. 😓 I treated the itchy scalp problem pretty successfully with coal tar shampoo, and a product called Skin Salvation made with natural products that you can buy here in the UK. Things improved. A few weeks later what looked like a kind of nettle rash on my shoulders. Itchy bu... -
I'll be thinking of you, Gemak. I too had young children at the time, it's not easy feeling like this when you have to look after the family. Take things as easy as you can while you are doing the trial - easier said than done, I know. My husband was travelling a lot at that stage of my life so I decided to make no secret of how bad I was feeling when...

Hello again Gemak Around the time of the 2012 Olympics (I'm not an athlete, I just remember it was around then!) I started to suffer from debilitating anxiety. I also started to get hallucinations on waking. Long before that even I was beginning to think I was losing my memory as I went through long stretches of not being able to find the right words...

Hi Keza It takes a while for symptoms to settle, so I'd say that what you are experiencing would not be unusual. You may find it beneficial to cut out dairy at this early stage until your gut has healed properly. I continued to get loose stools and bloating for some time until I gave up dairy. I do consume dairy now but it can still upset me if I...

Hi Gemak I saw the words "UK" in your thread title so I thought I'd chime in as I live in England and so I've been through the UK testing process. I had two tests done by my GP - the Iga and the TTG. I remember being referred to a gastroenterologist and him telling me that the Iga was unconvincing but my TTG was over 100 (then, in 2013, UK readings...

Just to add... H. Pylori is definitely a cause of gastritis but in my case I've had three scopes with multiple samples/biopsies taken and they've never found it. Perhaps it is well hidden! I tend to get gastric symptoms when I'm accidentally glutened, when I take certain medication (anti-biotics and NSAIDS) and also if I over indulge in cake and other rich...

I suffer from this from time to time. I think I may have found the solution for me - that that if I take two or three days of a PPI (omeprazole or similar) it seems to help. I also suffer from gastritis and I think this belching comes before any other symptoms of gastritis become noticeable, in my case a burning stomach.

CELIAC DISEASE AND POLYCYTHEMA VERA
cristiana replied to SamIPD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Scott and Posterboy Sorry to interrupt but do you guys get itchy skin as a symptom of your blood levels? I get this a lot and for years I though it was due to low iron (which I still think it may be as my iron is still very low) BUT I understand it can also be a symptom of high haemaglobin - in my own case, possible polycythemia. Has Anyone Gotten Covid Shot(s) Yet?
cristiana replied to Kate333's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kate Just to say I was in the pharmacy today and the lady in front of me gets itchy skin every time she has vaccines. She'd obviously just had her Covid shot and had been told by the doctor to just buy some over the counter antihistamines. The pharmacist gave her these, said they are fine to take. https://www.boots.com/boots-one-a-day-allergy... -
Has Anyone Gotten Covid Shot(s) Yet?
cristiana replied to Kate333's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Kate. I too seem to be getting seasonal allergies . I struggle with gastric issues. My TTG levels have only once been as low as I would like them to be since I was diagnosed in 2013, despite being careful. I also have low iron. I refer to myself as a "creaking gate". But that said, my sister, very close in age to me and in comparatively... -
Has Anyone Gotten Covid Shot(s) Yet?
cristiana replied to Kate333's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Kate I meant to include this link in my earlier post: https://www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/coronavirus-information-hub/vaccinations/ Coeliac UK is Britain's leading gluten free charity and they have some very helpful information on Coeliac Disease and Covid on their website. I hope this might reassure you. C.
