  1. Back again - hubby has gone upstairs to do something so I thought I'd just check your post. It is tough what you are going through. All I can say is try when on holiday keep eating whole foods that are naturally gluten free; make sure to wash any vegetables or fruit that might have been stored near gluten (or make sure catering staff are aware). Make...
  2. My friend who has an allergy has experienced huge problems trying to find out what she was allergic too, and then finally being able to find someone qualified and affordable who could test her. She felt yeast was a problem, he confirmed it. But as has been your experience, she's really had to go down this route without the support of a GP and it took a...
  3. Thanks for the reply, I can see how confusing this all must be. A wheat allergy is certainly a whole different ball game to coeliac disease. Did this allergy suddenly present itself? Or is it something that has been building over the years? It might be helpful to know if you have ever been tested for coeliac disease, too. Sorry for three...
  4. Hi @MzMillz and welcome to the forum. I am a UK coeliac. I hope I might be able to help as a UK coeliac who is conversant with the NHS system, and have a friend who whilst isn't a coeliac had to try to work out what was causing an allergy through the private health route in the UK. But first, I agree with @trents that it would be good to know if...
  5. H @Staci19 I agree with Trents. Also, 'google' healthy fats and buy these products if you can (such as tinned fish, nuts, advocado, cheese). If you can tolerate dairy products, consume full fat versions. When your weight increases, you should see a difference in your figure. For myself, I am currently trying to lose some weight, having lost a lot...
  6. If coeliacs follow a strict gluten-free diet, the villi begin to heal and function again properly. However, this article may be of interest it contains research findings that show the process can be long and in some people incomplete. https://www.verywellhealth.com/celiac-disease-when-will-your-small-intestine-recover-562341
  7. Hi @milo2007 I think I'd like some of my fellow mods to come in at this point to see if they have any thoughts. Will keep an eye on this thread over the next few days and see what they say. The thing is, you could try going on a gluten free diet right now to see if you start to put on weight, but I'd like to hear from them in case they think...
  8. Mmm... not the most helpful reply there from your consultant. Actually, you raise something there, if insufficient biopsies were taken something could have been missed. Sorry - going back to gluten, were you eating it prior to the tests?
  9. I have had two friends with colitis and I know that at times they have struggled greatly with their diet. One seems to be doing well now, but I know the other had huge issues with fruit and veg. For myself I have been diagnosed with coeliac disease and IBS and between them I rarely find my gut is in 'a good place'. I can have days of things working well...
  10. Hello @milo2007 and welcome to the Forum! I see from the the tests you have no damage to your gut, so in terms of whether gluten has a part to play in this, can I ask were you consuming gluten every day before the tests, and if so, how much and for how long? The reason I ask is if you had been on a gluten free diet prior to the tests, then your gut might...
  11. @trents makes some good points. Yes, I had the symptoms you mentioned. and they improved after I went gluten free, although it took some time However, the cough was something that occurred after I had been diagnosed with coeliac disease and was following a gluten-free diet. It turned out to be related to reflux. I adopted a reflux diet, tried...
  12. HI Sabrine I am so sorry, you are having to cope with such a lot. This news must be overwhelming. However, one thing to bear in mind is something I learned when I was first diagnosed. I spent a lot of time reading people's experiences of Coeliac Disease and found that sometimes all sort of strange and seemingly unrelated symptoms can improve...
  13. PS Sorry @Sabrine, I missed your last point about fattening food. I was in this place at diagnosis, I've never lost weight so fast but I can tell you that now it has come back on, and more! 😂 These foods are full of good fats, and are naturally gluten free. Avocados. Cheese. Dark chocolate. Whole eggs. Fatty fi...
  14. Hi Sabrine I'm a UK Coeliac so thought I'd chime in. (and welcome to the Forum, by the way!) I would definitely encourage you to go for a proper diagnosis. In Britain, the medical community takes a diagnosis of Coeliac Disease very seriously, as there can be quite a few complications related to this autoimmune disease if a gluten free diet...
  15. Hello @Blue Roan Thank you so much for this encouraging update! I'm so pleased you are feeling better. I agree, the smallest things can impact the body in major ways. I wish you continued improvement. Tania
  16. Hi Matt I am based in the UK and find that that foods with the 'may contain' label more often than not DO contain gluten and I end up with symptoms. Here in the UK labelling has become incredibly strict, but that has to be a good thing. I think in time I am sure you will find gluten-free products you like that you will enjoy, it just takes a...
  17. Hi Amanda I had a friend whose father was a coeliac and he was the sort of man who would be very thorough and ring manufacturers if he was in any doubt about a product containing gluten. He made a point of buying Tesco's yeast extract. I've used it myself more recently as I missed Marmite which I do know can contain traces of gluten, and I haven't...
  18. I would try the rolled towel pillow, to put under your neck. It has helped me enormously, including addressing facial pain. I use a hand towel and put it under my neck at night when I am having issues. This is how to make one. Worth reading up about how to use it.
  19. @Blue Roan Hi Blue, sorry as this is going to have to be a bit of a rushed not properly edited post as I'm going on a trip for a few days but will try to check back on replies, if there are any, when I can. I have felt like you do (and still sometimes do) with arms and legs not being mine. It wa particularly bad following a neck injury (picking up...
  20. I've not baked bread for many years, but I had a look at a few websites and found this on Quora, as someone posted their bread had this problem. I really don't know if it will help, but it might help. https://www.quora.com/If-my-whole-wheat-bread-smells-like-alcohol-does-it-mean-that-I-undercooked-the-bread#:~:text=What makes yeast bread taste...
  21. I never eat pasta or pizza out, in a busy restaurant it's too easy to be served the wrong portion, as I've found to my cost.
  22. I'm so sorry you had this experience @GardeningForHealth. I've had this happen to me. Responding so violently to gluten as that (I'm the same) puts you off eating out. When we go on holiday this year I've decided I just can't risk being that ill so will be on a permanent gluten-free picnic, buying things which are certified gluten-free in stores and...
  23. Just to say I am the same as trents, and another friend of mine, too, diagnosed roughly at the same time as me. In the old days we felt unwell, now our reactions are very much worse if we are glutened.
  24. Another suggestion, from my mother-in-law, who lives in Italy. A tablespoon of blackcurrant jam with each meal. Make sure you are drinking enough, and moving enough too.
  25. @seameruok Any bowel movement changes that last more than a few weeks ought to be run past your GP. Although it could well be coeliac disease behind the issue, best to be sure. In women, it is worth remembering that there are certain gynecological issues that can cause constipation, too.
