  1. Hi all I'm very grateful for your input, JMG. Thank you too Knitty Kitty. I'm willing to try anything not to get stuck on this stuff. It's not the first time I've taken it and it wasn't a picnic then. Back in 2013 I took some ibuprofen for bad earrache. Then I got what I imagine was acute gastritis - I was never told if it was that, but...
  2. Thanks so much knitty kitty. I have the same question for you - how long were you taking the PPI? I have such a curious sensation under my left rib today - feels like bloating. I've been looking at pics on the computer and it seems the stomach is more left than right, so perhaps that is it. Had a good day yesterday - did loads of walking. Seems to...
  3. Icelandgirl - that's really helpful, thank you! It was probably a long time ago but do you recall how long you were on the PPI?
  4. Four days into taking 20mg opremazole every day. I have to say, it's funny stuff. It does take away that awful gnawing feeling and heartburn but instead I've had burping, bloating in my upper abdomen which makes my shoulders and back ache, stomach pain as well as diarrhea - all of which appear to be the usual sort of symptoms you can get when you take it...
  5. Thanks so much for that - yes, I'm rather concerned about taking them long term. I hope I won't need to.
  6. This is very useful info, thank you! Because regarding heartburn thinking about it I've had it in the past after eating too much rich food - and then it went - but this is in a whole new league. To the point that this morning my throat felt sore. I'll eat early this evening - the bland chicken that Icelandgirl suggested - so hopefully food will repeat...
  7. Thanks so much for your reply, Icelandgirl. I shall buy some chicken and do exactly as you suggest - I think maybe where I went wrong a couple of days ago is the chicken was roast and pretty tough. This sounds easier on the stomach. I think maybe I have been glutened and maybe a bug - apparently there is one going round. The pain is so similar to...
  8. Thanks so much for replying, both of you. I am beginning to get concerned as the pain was worse last night (all I ate was chicken and carrots for supper) and this morning my stool is yellow, although not runny. I have googled and it doesn't look good - my hope is it is glutening and this is a celiac response. I'd better go to the doctors tomorrow if things...
  9. Hello experts! I wondered if anyone has had recourse to use slippery elm for either gastritis or glutening. I am not sure which I have but the pain is just below my sternum, a sort of burning gnawing pain that started a week ago and has waxed and waned to some degree depending on the food I have consumed (spicy/fatty food/dairy being the worst). I...
  10. Hi - for some reason soy was a big problem and really hurt my stomach after DX and I never went back to it - it may be fine now though? However, I agree, Alpro and Koyo are superb. I live in the country so our local supermarket (which is quite a small one and rather limited) doesn't always sell these milk alternatives and I can't recall what they do sell...
  11. This is a really important post - thanks for sharing this, Sue. I had the exact same problem that rumbled (pun intended!) on for about three years. I love dairy and my mother has osteoporosis so I had two reasons for not wanting to give up dairy, personally speaking - although I know dairy gets a mixed press. Anyway, I was OK eating hard cheese in...
  12. Thanks for the tip. Continuing on the whole food theme ... Yesterday I was in the New Forest and have discovered many of the New Forest Ice Cream range is gluten free - worth knowing, because these lovely ices are sold further afield. Here's their current allergens list. https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/ca2a335c/files/uploaded/2017_ NFIC...
  13. Hi Plumbago and Knitty Kitty. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Plumbago, I've just discovered that I have an appointment with my gastro in a few weeks, with a blood test beforehand which will reveal the current state of play. I'm going to put off the transfusion until then (if indeed, I have one). Knitty Kitty - that is so interesting...
  14. I said I'd update on this one. My ferritin continues to bump along the bottom of the 'normal' scale at 9 and my hemoglobin is 12. As I find oral supplementation so hard to stomach (literally!) I have been offered an iron infusion. It will equate to three months worth of iron, apparently, in one go. I'm going to check that its OK for me to have this...
  15. I've got low ferritin and when this happens I get itchy skin and canker sores. My consultant tells me I need to have my ferritin above 40 before I'll see any real improvement in my canker sores. Just thought I'd throw another possible deficiency into the ring, Hope you get some answers.
  16. Good to discover Manomasa's Range of Tortilla Chips are all Gluten Free! http://manomasa.co.uk/#home
  17. Its a lovely place isn't it! I remember my sister telling me about a survey where a group of young adults were asked which their favourite holidays were when they were children. The seaside holidays in the UK won hands down, even compared with the more exotic destinations. There was something so special about seaside holidays - even if it was raining...
  18. That's the one. In fact, it's a terrific range. There are some great Baxters soups out there that are gluten-free too, and it even says it on the can. Baxters are very gluten aware - I'm currently eating a jar of their Simply Delicious Organic Garlic Mayonnaise and although nothing beats the freshly made stuff it is very good. And on the side is...
  19. Definitely worth getting the guide by becoming a member of Coeliac UK - it will pay for itself! I've just discovered, by the way, that Amy's Gluten Free Soup Tomato Flavour makes a very respectable base for a bolognese sauce if one has forgotten to buy the base ingredients for one (or a pre-made sauce). We've also used it as a tomato pizza base in...
  20. Yes... it's not good is it rarchy.? Most of the posts on this site about whole foods. Trust us Brits to lower the tone! When you are feeling like a treat why not try making some pastries with this. I can't find it in my local store but you may have more success. You will find, however, that new gluten-free products come up all the time. There...
  21. Well done, Jmg. My husband has just brought home a pizza made by a major Pizza manufacturer. It really does seem that every day, in every way, being gluten free is getting easier and easier! http://www.goodfellaspizzas.com/our-range/gluten-free-range/
  22. Yes, French Fancies have to be next on the list. Yum. I wish you hadn't mentioned them, I want one NOW. It's great Mr Kipling are now in the ring. But I can't eat gluten-free oat flour so in actual fact I can't eat their bakewell cake....
  23. Wow JMG, thanks for letting us know. Meanwhile, 'ere in rural middle of nowhere, our Tescos Express has practically empty shelves - like there has been a run on gluten free biscuits, cake and pasta. Very odd? Maybe the shelves looked full, until you posted your piccy 6 hours ago. Handbags at dawn. While I'm online, I feel I must recommend Tescos...
  24. Its great - it tastes just how I remember Marmite used to taste - but then again, after four years of eating gluten-free bread which is beginning to taste like I remember glutenous bread - think I'm just getting used to it! - I'm not sure if I'd trust my sense of taste these days.
  25. I've not been a member of C UK for a couple of years now but I thought Snickers were OK in their last book? I think I need to join again. However, changing the subject, I have just discovered Tesco's own yeast extract spread, unlike Marmite, does not have gluten listed in its ingredients. Hooray!
