  1. I said I'd update on this one. My ferritin continues to bump along the bottom of the 'normal' scale at 9 and my hemoglobin is 12. As I find oral supplementation so hard to stomach (literally!) I have been offered an iron infusion. It will equate to three months worth of iron, apparently, in one go. I'm going to check that its OK for me to have this...
  2. I've got low ferritin and when this happens I get itchy skin and canker sores. My consultant tells me I need to have my ferritin above 40 before I'll see any real improvement in my canker sores. Just thought I'd throw another possible deficiency into the ring, Hope you get some answers.
  3. Good to discover Manomasa's Range of Tortilla Chips are all Gluten Free! http://manomasa.co.uk/#home
  4. Its a lovely place isn't it! I remember my sister telling me about a survey where a group of young adults were asked which their favourite holidays were when they were children. The seaside holidays in the UK won hands down, even compared with the more exotic destinations. There was something so special about seaside holidays - even if it was raining...
  5. That's the one. In fact, it's a terrific range. There are some great Baxters soups out there that are gluten-free too, and it even says it on the can. Baxters are very gluten aware - I'm currently eating a jar of their Simply Delicious Organic Garlic Mayonnaise and although nothing beats the freshly made stuff it is very good. And on the side is...
  6. Definitely worth getting the guide by becoming a member of Coeliac UK - it will pay for itself! I've just discovered, by the way, that Amy's Gluten Free Soup Tomato Flavour makes a very respectable base for a bolognese sauce if one has forgotten to buy the base ingredients for one (or a pre-made sauce). We've also used it as a tomato pizza base in...
  7. Yes... it's not good is it rarchy.? Most of the posts on this site about whole foods. Trust us Brits to lower the tone! When you are feeling like a treat why not try making some pastries with this. I can't find it in my local store but you may have more success. You will find, however, that new gluten-free products come up all the time. There...
  8. Well done, Jmg. My husband has just brought home a pizza made by a major Pizza manufacturer. It really does seem that every day, in every way, being gluten free is getting easier and easier! http://www.goodfellaspizzas.com/our-range/gluten-free-range/
  9. Yes, French Fancies have to be next on the list. Yum. I wish you hadn't mentioned them, I want one NOW. It's great Mr Kipling are now in the ring. But I can't eat gluten-free oat flour so in actual fact I can't eat their bakewell cake....
  10. Wow JMG, thanks for letting us know. Meanwhile, 'ere in rural middle of nowhere, our Tescos Express has practically empty shelves - like there has been a run on gluten free biscuits, cake and pasta. Very odd? Maybe the shelves looked full, until you posted your piccy 6 hours ago. Handbags at dawn. While I'm online, I feel I must recommend Tescos...
  11. Its great - it tastes just how I remember Marmite used to taste - but then again, after four years of eating gluten-free bread which is beginning to taste like I remember glutenous bread - think I'm just getting used to it! - I'm not sure if I'd trust my sense of taste these days.
  12. I've not been a member of C UK for a couple of years now but I thought Snickers were OK in their last book? I think I need to join again. However, changing the subject, I have just discovered Tesco's own yeast extract spread, unlike Marmite, does not have gluten listed in its ingredients. Hooray!
  13. Come the Revolution all Lindt will be Gluten Free.
  14. This is great! Good of you to share (and nice of Coeliac UK to make the list accessible to those who are not members). Isn't it great, too, that we can eat Dairy Milk again for a while without gluten! Sooner or later I hope the penny will drop at Cadbury's that they don't need to stick gluten in their chocolate bars.
  15. Ah ... so that's why I've got a sweet tooth! Now I understand! Oddly enough I don't drink, smoke, do drugs or eat fast food either (although I did have a Gourmet Kitchen Burger the other day - did you know they did gluten-free? It was amazing!) So before I leave the doughnut question behind I'd just like to say, if a food manufacturer is reading...
  16. I can't help feeling this thread is flying in the opposite direction of whole food eating advice that seems to flood the rest of the forum. Us Brits are letting the side down! And yum, those apple filled iced doughnuts were soooo delicious.
  17. They look good and if I manage to track them down I'll let you know ... but I haven't seen them either. BTW I'm sorry I reminded you of something you didn't realise you missed! What I really miss at the moment is one of those doughnuts with icing on them. I think I spot a hole in the market! Tee hee!
  18. Has anyone found or tried any gluten free doughnuts in the UK? Something I really miss all of a sudden.
  19. Toblerone Almondy is another good gluten free cake. I'd also like to say 'full marks' to Marks and Sparks (!) as I noticed that when I was preparing some ready meals for my family the other days they stamp allergens on the removeable film on the top of the containers. Oh dear... just reading this entry makes me realise just how much I'm relying...
  20. I think there has been a direct correlation with my anemia and hair thinning. Unfortunately I have to limit my iron intake as I have a suspected blood disorder but I'm a rare case - under normal circumstances I'd be supplementing much more as I feel it makes quite a difference. If I were you I'd get your iron tested and then supplement if on the low side...
  21. Its good they found nothing on ultrasound. I was going to suggest that maybe it might be a hernia but I think an unltrasound would detect a hernia? When I was firs diagnosed I had lost a lot of weight very rapidly (about 10Ibs) and I was very bloated but also aware of lumps rather like you describe on either side, just above the hip/groin area. I asked...
  22. Just discovered that Mr Kipling are now doing gluten-free cakes and I found one in Tescos. If you have oat sensitivity check the labels but I have to say the Cherry Bakewell Loaf Cake is an 'Exceedingly Good Cake'!
  23. Another great gluten free menu! A great recommendation about Cote Restaurants from Gemini has just appeared on a separate thread. I have decided to share it here as having done a bit more homework I cannot believe what a good gluten-free menu Cote has. I am also surprised to find that we have one less than half an hour's drive away. Here is the...
  24. Thanks so much, posterboy. My nutritionalist has also advised me to try to keep levels stable to stop neuropathy from getting worse. It was good to read your advice. Much appreciated.
  25. Ditto. I've been doing the same!
