  1. Thank you so much for your reply! I was just beginning to doubt myself...if I made a mistake by just accepting their decision (after my first appeal) or if i should have really tried to fight back on it. I felt like such an idiot...I thought it would be a sure thing that I'd get approved, I felt like crap ALL the time and i already had a diagnosis. It seems...
  2. Hi cyclinglady! It has been a long time. I had myself convinced I was managing my celiac disease with the SCD. It - did help in certain ways, but I still had skin issues, chronic fatigue, etc. Trying to find a way to get my histamine issues OFFICIALLY diagnosed. It seems that if I can stay away from foods high in histamine (beans, tomatoes, strawberries)...
  3. (I wasn't sure what category was appropriate here) I am trying to keep this brief. Back last year, I was feeling really sick, despite sticking to the gluten free diet and never cheating. In fact, I was even doing the SCD diet and STILL I had plenty of health problems. I also was under a lot of stress - I had a HORRIBLE UTI that lasted for over a...
  4. I've experienced this more times than I can count. It's always really scary! The worst part is that sometimes I will have dreams that I'm in water and I'll actually hold my breath in my sleep, and wake up gasping for air. That seems to happen a lot less often since I switched to a much healthier diet and started healing. (I was tested for sleep apnea, they...
  5. I saw someone else already mentioned this - but I agree that the "halitosis" is most likely due to your hiatal hernia. I was in the same boat as you - my boyfriend of a couple months started telling me that I had bad breath. At first, I shrugged it off and blamed it on the white garlic pizza I had been eating recently...but a couple of months later he...

  7. I think anyone dealing with refractory celiac disease should definitely look into the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I suppose by the guidelines, I myself would be considered refractory. The gluten free diet was helping, but it wasn't enough. I still wasn't losing the weight I gained. The bloating was still awful. My rosacea was awful...my scalp, etc etc. I...
  8. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in to this topic... I went to the doctor last summer (July 2013) because I just didn't feel good at all. EVERYTHING I ate seemed to go right through me, or give me sharp stomach pains. Sandwiches, minestrone soup, my mom's fried dough, salad, etc. Except for pizza. I found this out the day before my 3rd date with...
  9. Oh wow, thank you everyone for your answers! Using olive oil sounds a lot easier, but I will definitely look into the cooking spray for other uses. It could come in handy. I hadn't heard of the sprayers either. I haven't used the waffle iron yet...my diet is so strict (grain free, etc) and I haven't had time to run to the store to buy almond flour. But soon...
  10. Oh wow! I'll have to look into it. I viewed the website and for some reason it doesn't list the ingredients. Grr! But hopefully it will be easy to find in a store. Thank you!
  11. Does this even exist? My boyfriend's mother just gave us a brand new waffle iron, and I want to try a recipe for SCD approved waffles. You need to spray the waffle iron, but every cooking spray I've seen has soy in it. Has anyone seen anything different? Could I just brush the waffle iron with olive oil? Thanks in advance!
  12. I happened to get pretty lucky in that area. I was diagnosed just over 2 weeks after I started dating my boyfriend. He didn't really know much about it at all, but he was very supportive. He found apps to download on his phone, and he started looking into gluten free restaurants for us to go to. He's very careful about cross contamination, but it can still...
  13. **Wow, I just realized in my above post I said coconut oil, I meant coconut milk of course! Haha. That really does sound good. I'm going to have to try it at some point. :)
  14. Thank you! That sounds great. I actually do have a can of coconut oil at home, I keep forgetting to put it in the fridge! Some questions...do I use the entire can, or half a can, etc? And I think I will omit the honey, too much sugar even though it is natural. Could I add blueberries in too? Would it be better to add frozen berries, or fresh?
  15. Okay so, where do I begin. On Tuesday, April 29, I went to see my naturopathic doctor for the first time. We talked about skin issues and food sensitivities, and he mentioned that a patient of his had rosacea and was tested for food sensitivities. After being tested positive for yeast/wheat sensitivities and giving both up..his rosacea cleared up. I didn...
  16. Have you thought of trying paleo bread? It is grain free..it typically contains almond and/or coconut flour. You might be able to find some in the freezer section of one of the health stores near you! It's pricey at about $10.00 a loaf, but personally I like it a lot and if you're used to not eating bread, you can probably make it last awhile. Some gluten...
  17. I have been lactose intolerant since about 2010. Since giving up gluten in July of 2013, I have not seen any improvements in my sensitivity to lactose. I decided to blog my progress/results that I hope to see from giving up most dairy/all lactose. The only dairy I will eat is the casein found in my almond/rice cheese substitutes. That's it! No more chocolate...
  18. I think it depends on what location you go to. I recently went on vacation with a few friends, and we were trying to find a gluten friendly restaurant. We happened to be stopped near a Chipotles, and Chipotles was listed on the gluten free app. We went inside, and there was a sign on the counter that said to notify the server if you have any 'food allergies...
