  1. I'm afraid of the spice mixes. I buy individual McCormack spices and mix them up according to what I'm making.
  2. Well, peanut is a legume, as is soy. I don't know if there's a connection, but it is possible....something to think about, at least
  3. I'm sorry, Faegan--I missed your post this morning (was in a hurry to get ready to go out). Sandoz told me the same thing--I take one of their generics for my blood pressure. Glad you got an answer!
  4. Lister--with all the hand washing you've no doubt been doing lately, you most likely have very dry skin on your hands that is cracking. Get some gluten-free hand cream or moisturizer, and use it whenever you wash up and before bed
  5. I got this response when asking about Mrs. Butterworth's Syrup-- To: jerseyangel May 15, 2006 E-Mail Address: jerseyangel Dear Ms. Thank you for taking the time to inquire about Pinnacle Foods Corporation and the products we produce which might be gluten-free. We appreciate your interest in our company and our products. At...
  6. I'm not sure where you're located, but I get Gluten Free Pantry at my local Acme--their pancake mix is really good. My non gluten-free husband likes them, too! Also, Wegman's Pancake Syrup is gluten-free, and says so right on the label. (My husband actually likes it better than my pure maple syrup). Go figure
  7. I use pure maple syrup, too. I use it as a sweetner on other things in addition to pancakes.
  8. Yea Ursula--I think it's deinately worth a try for her. Like I said, I have not had one sore throat in 10 months (the time I've been gluten-free). No more gaggging or feeling that there was something in my throat, either. (now, if I could say the same about my stomach....)
  9. There was a thread on this several months ago. That's where I found out what it was! I did have them from time to time--but have not had them again since going gluten-free. I've not even had a sore throat (knock wood!) At the time I was bothered by them, I also had a problem with feeling like I was going to choke when swallowing solids. I found it...
  10. Hi T, and welcome in to the wonderful world of Celiac! Where the patients quickly know more about how it works than the doctors. I, too got "gluten-free, dairy free diet, see you in 6 months". I learned everything I know about this disease right here. Keep reading and feel free to ask any questions that come up along the way. Everyone here is very caring...
  11. Betty--Thanks lady, you, too
  12. Betty--does this mean you're feeling better? Hope so!
  13. I get symptoms for 2 weeks. The first week is worse--for instance, I was glutened by CC 2 days ago. From 2 hours after ingesting the food, I have had nausea, gas, low ab. cramping and I'm very depressed and apprehensive feeling. I had to go out earlier, and was afraid I was going to throw up--I really never do, but the nausea is that bad. This will probably...
  14. I can definately relate to the "smell" thing, too. It was much worse in the several months before diagnosis--(when I was at the absolute sickest)--that's when I first noticed it. Now, if I'm glutened and the reaction lasts more than a few days, I can detect it again. Like someone said, it's like the body is getting rid of the offending protein any way...
  15. YES!! I had an itching in my right ear that, I swear, lasted for years. Since I've been taking antihistimines regularly, it has gone away. It was a constant itch deep inside my ear--no redness or anything like that. Strange--I now have something similar going on with my left eye. The antihistimines help for a while, but it keeps coming back. The ear...
  16. Before I was gluten-free I had terrible night sweats. They were much worse when I was in my 30's. I would wake up in the middle of the night totally drenched. That was during the time I was taking lots of antibiotics and steriods. Now, I'm getting them due to menopause--and intrestingly, these are not anywhere near as bad as the ones I used to get.
  17. Judy, when you get a chance, check your email!! I just sent you one and it had to do with the mayonnaise. I hadn't checked on here yet.
  18. Jillian--Sorry, I don't know about how they're made, but when my husband and I go to NYC, the smell of those nuts make my mouth water as we walk around
  19. I use Badger Balm--the kind that comes in the tube like chapstick. My Whole Foods has it right near the registers.
  20. Yes, it is difficult for some (most) people to step up and take charge of their own health. Especially when it involves change--it's easier for them to blame it on the doctor than listen to their gut. (literally and figuratively) If a person has a problem, but keeps doing the same thing over and over, the results will never change. At some point, you have...
  21. YOU GO--NINI!!!
  22. Yes--I get stomach pain now when I have a gluten reaction. It's an actual pain right across the stomach area. Now, I can tell if it's gluten if I get the pain. Before being gluten-free, I had cramping and nausea, but not the pain. Now, I get all 3
  23. That is terrible--I've said this before, but I think some of these doctors are trying not to diagnose Celiac. Why? That's the part I don't understand.
  24. Gluten-wise, no. But a lot of us have a problem with itching and have discussed it in other threads--I just didn't feel like searching through for that thread--I just picked this one with the appropriate title
  25. I wanted to pass this along.. CVS has their own brand of Free and Clear laundry detergent. It's $3.99 for a 100 oz. jug. That's at least $2 less than any of the other brands I've used. I find that it works just as well as Purex and All (free & clear versions).
