  1. Hi Olioil! I definitely felt worse before feeling better. I ended up having to do an elimination diet to find out that soy really bothered me and that oats caused a severe reaction as well. It took me about 6 months to really start feeling pretty good and that was after eliminating the other foods that bothered my digestive system. I hope that...
  2. Hi Cristiana! It's an interesting thought whether Celiacs are more likely to get Shingles. In the US, once you turn 50, you are able to get the Shingles vaccine. My Dr was bugging me about it for 2 years and I was worried about the side effects. This was during Covid too where we were getting boosters and such. I finally got my first shot in...
  3. Hi Dianna, I'm so sorry that you are feeling poorly! Have you considered the oats as the cause of the issue. I think that something like 10% of Celiacs react to oats in a similar way that they do to gluten. Even gluten free oats. I am one of the Celiacs who can't tolerate oats at all. If I eat oats I get severe abdominal pain and diarrhea...
  4. Hi Tanja, Congratulations on the birth of your sweet baby! I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling with so much right now. I know how hard it can be to have these worries and to have that anxiety kicking in. You have already received some great advice. I wanted to add that it can take some time (months for me) after a celiac diagnosis...
  5. That's true, RMJ! I do wish Canyon(the bread we like) would fortify with iron and B as well.
  6. This article is interesting. I've wondered for years why gluten free breads, pastas, etc aren't fortified while non-gluten free ones are. Celiacs could use some fortification in our foods too.
  7. Hi Ginger! I use either Udi's or Canyon hamburger buns... My family loves both. Depending on what I'm in the mood for I either 1.wrap them in foil and warm them in the oven, 2. put them on a baking sheet opened up (this toasts them nicely or melts cheese in top... Also depending on what I'm in the mood for), 3. Add them to the grill when the burgers...
  8. Congratulations and great job on your gluten free diet!! It's so nice to hear such good news, isn't it? Keep up the good work!
  9. Yes! Then we'd have to figure out a way to meet up for tea!
  10. Oh my! I would love to be there for that! It would be amazing!
  11. I am so sorry for your loss...what a remarkable person she was! I've been to England twice...I remember standing outside of Buckingham Palace hoping to somehow get a glimpse of her. I loved visiting Windsor Castle and all of it's rich history. Queen Elizabeth will be dearly missed by people through out the world, including myself. And the bit with...
  12. When I was first diagnosed I was really struggling. A few months in a lot of my digestive symptoms were still there, daily D especially . Another celiac recommended Florajen 3 and I decided to try it. It really helped my digestive system overall. Better stools, less bloating, etc. I hope that helps!
  13. Hi Victoria, I've found that taking a good probiotic has been very helpful for me. I take FloraJen3.
  14. Hi Lauren! It sounds to me like you are doing great so far! Your antibodies have come down a lot! It took mine a year and a half to get to normal and they didn't start nearly as high as yours. I do remember that at 1 year they had come down a lot and then 6 months later were in the normal range. Keep doing what you are doing and I'm sure that your...
  15. I'm so glad that you had such a good experience! I look forward to travelling internationally, I've been scared food-wise, but I really do want to get out there.
  16. Hi Ivana and yay!! That's amazing news! It does take a while to get those numbers down sometimes...mine took 18 months. You are definitely doing things the right way and it's paying off! Good job! Just out of curiosity, which Scandinavian country did you visit? Keep up the good work!
  17. Hi again, When my thyroid levels were off a bit, higher TSH, lower FT4, my cholesterol was in a bad spot, especially my triglycerides...in fact that's the only time the triglycerides have been elevated. I remember having them rechecked after 6 weeks on an increased dose of thyroid meds and they were back to normal. I am on Levoxyl (brand name)...
  18. Hi Trents...the TPO (thyroid perxoidase antibodies) are fairly indicative of thyroid disease. In this case, they are above the normal range so that would indicate thyroid autoimmune disease.
  19. Hi Chocoholic! Love the name as I am a chocoholic too!😀 I also have Hashimoto's and celiac...welcome to the club! If you can find a good endocrinologist, go with that. If not, in most cases, a GP can take care of your thyroid as well. My endocrinologist recently retired and I was pretty upset because he really got it. He had thyroid ca...
  20. Hi Ginger! I also started having troubles after having my daughter which led to my celiac diagnosis, Hashimoto's diagnosis and having my gallbladder removed. I have also felt like a big ole mess so I feel you! I believe that pregnancy and childbirth and all that comes along with it can trigger autoimmune diseases to become active in those that have...
  21. Hi Cristiana! I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with this! I had to wear a holter monitor some years ago for 48 hours. I did have to wear it the whole time. It was a bit annoying and I was glad to get it off. In my case the heart palpitations were due to starting a new medication (Synthroid for Hashimoto's) and once I was switched to a different...
  22. Hi Rebecca, I don't have DH and am not able to help out in that regard, but I wanted to send you huge (((hugs))) and best wishes for some answers soon so that you can take care of and enjoy your sweet baby! I do believe that my celiac was triggered by my pregnancy and birth of my youngest. I was continually sick for the first 2 and a half years...
  23. Hi Ivana, I just say keep up the good work...you are definitely on the right path! I am from Iceland, but have lived in the US since I was 8. I wasn't diagnosed until my early 40s so I can't answer to what the gluten free scene is like. I do know that my family in general was more gluten aware than most people where I live so it might be ok. ...
  24. Hi Ivana, Sending you ((((hugs)))! I'm so glad that you got such good results...that means you are doing really well on a gluten free diet. My levels were not nearly as high as yours to start and it took about 18 months to get them to normal. You're doing great! I've also struggled with health anxiety and depression and it's so frustrating...
  25. I got my second dose of Pfizer yesterday...now everyone in my family who is eligible has had both! I felt very tired last night and extremely achy (flu like) today, but I am feeling better às the day goes on and I am so relieved to be vaccinated!
