I really do like my Dr, he's very nice, but he's one of the "Top Doctors" in our city, so it's always a wait. I could see one of the other Drs there but with my Dr anxiety I think it's better to wait. I am very interested in the menopause idea. I am entering that time as well. Unfortunately I recently started a period 17 days after the start of the...

It's funny isn't it how excited Drs get about abnormally low cholesterol? My total was 150 and my Dr thought I was amazing! The crazy thing is that I eat healthier now than I ever have.

Great ideas Ennis...unfortunately I can't do sugar alcohols. They really bother my gut. I do love baking with almond flour, but ended up in the ER with kidney stones last year and have to lower my oxalate intake. Nuts are fairly high in oxalates.

Unfortunately I do have a sweet tooth...that may be what is causing the high LDL. Ugh! I just don't want to deal with this! I wish I could eat oats, but my gut won't let me. My thyroid numbers were pretty good on my most recent check, but I'm getting tested again in a couple of weeks, so we will see. Thanks again!

Hi Gemini! I agree that it's not bad and it is better than last year! My HDL is 69 and the ratios are good. I have such anxiety about Drs that I kind of freeze. I should have just refused the ultrasound and brought up my ratios, but I froze. Usually I'm just trying to get out of there as quickly as possible. I also agree that the numbers were...

Thanks Kitty! I really appreciate the perspective! My B12 was in the 800s last check. Zinc was good too. D was deficient at diagnosis and has been very slowly moving up. It was at 38.3 in July. My Dr wants it over 40 and had me double my dose. I do supplement with chelated magnesium for peripheral neuropathy. I can't supplement with calcium...

Thanks CL! I have just requested the Vertical Auto Profile (VAP) cholesterol test...hopefully that will come with good results. I'm discouraged about this because I eat really well!

Hi all, Before I was diagnosed my cholesterol was always low and my Dr's were so impressed with me! Now, the past 2 physicals it is high according to my Dr. The LDL was 141 last year and 116 this year. This year my Dr ordered an ultrasound of my carotid arteries after seeing the numbers. Because I'm 45 and have high cholesterol he wants to look for...

Hi fbmb! It would be a bit of a drive for you, but I like Dr Baker in Colorado Springs. 2 of his associates specialize in celiac, but when I called to schedule my first appointment I just needed someone and got the Dr with the 1st available appointment. Anyway, he's been great. I really do like him as a Dr. Tessa, if you do start eating out...

Hi Cristiana, I'm so sorry that you are still not feeling well. When do you go back to your Dr? I wish I could help more, but it's so hard to know what was what when I was on the PPI. I was diagnosed with celiac and h. Pylori on the same day so I was already feeling awful. Then I was put on 2 antibiotics with the PPI. I do remember feeling...

Ice Creams
icelandgirl replied to pdm1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat Haagen Dazs with no issues and it is delicious! I know that vanilla, vanilla bean, strawberry and chocolate are all labelled gluten free too. They have these new Trios that look amazing...my husband assures me that they are! They aren't labelled gluten free, although no gluten ingredients. They have so though and I can't have that. I also... -
Hi Cristiana, I was on it daily for a month. During that time I learned about acid rebound and was scared to experience it. So when my month was over, I started tapering. I didn't experience any issues coming off. I do hope you start feeling better. Maybe it would be good to stay on a very mild diet for a bit. I have lived on chicken, boiled...

Hi Cristiana, I'm so sorry that you are still having issues! I have been on a PPI once. I was diagnosed with h. Pylori at the same time as celiac, so my gut was a complete wreck! I was put on 2 antibiotics, a PPI and Pepto. I had read about acid rebound and decided to taper when it was time to come off. I went from taking it daily to 1 every...

Hi Cristiana, I'm so sorry that you are not feeling well. (((Hugs))) I definitely had that before diagnosis and for some time after, which makes me wonder if you've been glutened. Do you keep a food diary? If so, have you checked the day or 2 before this started to see if anything stands out as the culprit? It could also be a virus. It...

Hormonal changes after going gluten-free
icelandgirl replied to pavlovcat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Pavlov and welcome! Hormonal changes like that are not fun at all! Have you had your thyroid fully checked recently? The thyroid is the master hormone of your body, if it's not working optimally, things will suffer. A full thyroid blood panel would include TSH, Free T4, Free T3, TPOAB and TgAb. The last 2 are antibody tests. Most people seem... -
I agree with everything cyclinglady has suggested! Having diarrhea every day is sheer misery. I hope that he doesn't make you wait 6 weeks. If these medications aren't helping, go back in and see if he's willing to schedule it earlier or do other testing....I'm not sure what. I really do feel for you. Leading up to my celiac diagnosis I had D 10-20 times...
-
Hi George! It is an old topic, but it's mine so I figured I'd chime in. If nothing showed on CT or MRI, I'm not sure. I do get this when I'm glutened and it's very uncomfortable. How long has it been since you had a complete celiac panel done? If it isn't very recent, I think it's time for one. Particularly with such severe D. Did you make...

Hi Jamie! I completely agree with Pinky. Have your thyroid fully investigated. A lot of Dr's will only test TSH and it just doesn't tell the whole story. You also need Free T3, Free T4, TPOAb andTgAb. The last 2 are antibody tests. Your TSH should be close to 1 and both Free's should be within 50-75% of the range to be optimal. When your thyroid...
