A biopsy is a much more intensive and invasive procedure. You need a way of working out who needs one and though not perfect the blood tests do pretty well at diagnosing celiacs. I think that's a good plan. I share pretty much all your symptoms. Theyve all resolved or imroved on the diet. As for a diagnosis. If you test negative but respond...

This is a good site to use: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/ Here's the entry for creamistry https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/biz/creamistry/6001524628783104 It sounds great. I used to live in SD and miss it a lot. Wish I could go check this place out myself!

Thanks Matt I can see those no problem I will retype the celiac results to make it easier for you and others. These are the main tests in use: Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgADeamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgGTotal Serum IgA Your total IGA is fine 2.65 (range .4 to 3.5) TTG IGA is less than 1 with any result less than ...

I'm losing hope :(
Jmg replied to Voguishstorm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello and welcome First off, at 5 months in you still just about qualify for newbie status. So review the thread just in case, though it sounds like you're on the right track. I'm going to differ from Ennis slightly, although he knows his stuff. For me, brain fog initially lifted quite quickly. Now I'll preface this by saying that I know... -
G'day Matt! Sadly I can't open the attachments either. My guess is that a mod may be able to. I think you could upload them to a filesharing site and post a link here though? In your first thread I posted the main tests, try to have a look and see if you can recognise them on your test and maybe manually type the I tested negative on blood...

Oh I loved beer Real ale's mainly but also the occasional Guinness or Murphy's stout. I guess you may call it cask ale or cask conditioned. Back when I was over there I used to love going to the microbreweries and sampling the US beer, has a different taste but there were some great ones. I mostly gave up lager due to bloating (little did I know...

They may have someone else look at the biopsy sample. I think analysing them is a specialised skill, they may want to get a second opinion just in case. Either way, best of luck

No that's my point! You're allowed to call it gluten free over here if it tests below 20ppm. This despite the concerns over the accuracy of the Elisa test. The beers with barley have been treated with enzymes etc but there's a big question mark over if they remove all the gluten. I look at those beers on the shelf and they look delicious, the range has...

Just Diagnosed
Jmg replied to DaveCH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Dave and welcome Clearly a question your consultant will be happy to answer but all the studies I've seen suggest that if you adhere to the diet your chances of serious complications quickly track back to the national average. So after a certain time gluten free you will be no more likely to get such complications than a non celiac. It is important... -
Do you think it's micro amounts of gluten or do our bodies simply associate cookies/bread/baked stuff etc. with the gluten whether it's there or not? This is what Jane Anderson says: https://www.verywell.com/symptoms-continue-eating-gluten-free-562740

Hi Pearl_Lake I'm not diagnosed celiac. Gluten did affect my skin but not in a DH way. However about a year to 18 months after going gluten free I made an error in a food choice and I got symettrical and ultra itchy rash on my elbows which does fit the description. Point being, I never got that when I was eating gluten all day long, but my reactions...

A good article. Set out the issue nicely. I hope European health officials are taking note. This is one area where I believe the US is taking the right approach and Europe is not. The 20ppm limit is the only requirement over here for labelling something gluten free and companies are using the ELISA method to validate their claim. the gluten...

Hi Lori and welcome Yikes, this is the hardest question to answer. I think there's stuff you can do by yourself, but I found seeing a counsellor very helpful. One thing I did was write the world's longest rambling rant which you're welcome to try to get through.

Negative test...doctors reaction. OUCH!
Jmg replied to larann78's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It most certainly is. She's talking out of her..... er Stethoscope... There's some science stuff here if you're curious, but suffice to say that a negative celiac test doesn't necessarily mean you don't have an issue with gluten. Now it may be you didn't do a full blood panel, I didn't and I always wonder about that, because... -
confused about test results
Jmg replied to GloGlo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello and welcome I suffered depression for many years and have had all manner of antidepressants presribed. Within about 3 days of removing gluten I felt better than they ever made me feel. It affected me in a lot of different ways. However I tested negative, so if you go down the diagnostic route and get celiac properly excluded please don... -
Gluten challenge-is it worth it?
Jmg replied to jfhinoh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like AE above this is also very much like my experience. I removed gluten, noticed an incredible difference and then was given false info by a doctor who didn't understand the testing procedure and tested negative. I chose to go ahead with the challenge. It wasn't easy, but it got easier as the weeks went on. After 6 I had a scope which was negative... -
Hi melody, when on gluten I got horrible chest pains on the left side of my chest. Thought I was having heart attack each time, but heart checks were negative. Note that I tested negative for celiac, but going gluten free stopped the chest pains. so stay on gluten, go to your doctor, request celiac testing, when all tests are complete, if...

Jmg replied to trainerj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Josh and another welcome its still v early days for you on the diet, so hopefully you still have more healing to come. I found my stomach was unsettled for a good few weeks and the more you can avoid processed foods and eat well the better. Omelettes with veggies were a lifesaver for me. Filling, nutritious and easy to digest. Once your healing...- 4 replies

Yes, I realised a few years ago that my reverence for the medical profession was a hangover from childhood and that in reality they were pretty much operating at the same level as any other group, with good, bad and mostly indifferent practitioners. In the case of celiac they just don't have a great deal of knowledge, or at least the GP's I've spoken to don...

Welcome! Like CyclingLady I've never heard of level nine in terms of celiac. I do know that the outcomes for celiacs that follow the gluten free diet are typically excellent, with numbers relating to risks quickly moving towards the average. So there shouldn't be any reason why celiac would reduce your lifespan, indeed, if you make good choices...

At last, we've been waiting for you Just thought I'd say these sound very much like my own. However in my case I don't think these were DH, they cleared up mostly after I removed gluten but I believe the casein in dairy also triggers them. Doc said he thought it seborrhoeic dermatitis for the ones on the scalp. I later got an incredibly itchy...

Hi Ellebelle I also react to gluten but tested negative, so share your NCGS diagnosis. Welcome I've seen this advice given both here and elsewhere. I'm not a doctor but I do fundamentally disagree with this approach, both from my own experience and from what I've read. Here's one of the leading researchers in the NCGS field, Prof Umberto...

Hello again I'm not sure where you've read this or perhaps if you've been told this by someone but it's not true. The biopsy is not rendered useless by finding out you have lactose intolerance. Far from it. Lactose intolerance can be a symptom of the intestinal damage, it's not a cause of it. If anything the lactose intolerance strengthens the...
