  1. Could some of your symptoms be related to antihistamine withdrawal? Did the doctor check your IGE levels?
  2. G'day Matt (couldn't resist it). Yes, my story is similar. I had all sorts of prescriptions over the years and nothing worked particularly well until a few years ago I changed my diet and the brain fog lifted and my mood began to lighten. It was a revelation and once I knew I could feel that way I never wanted to go back. It's a little complicated...
  3. I know that for obvious reasons the first thought is intestinal inflammation but it sounds a bit like intercostal neuralgia? Not sure if that's been ruled out / in? Ignore me if that's a daft idea, a lot of my gluten mediated problems come via the nervous system so I wonder if that's the same for others. If it were in any case the NSAID is a potential treatment...
  4. Sorry you feel that way. It wasn't my intention to annoy you. There's a weird relation with smoking (not just weed) and celiac, you may want to read up on that a bit more: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11280554 Best of luck, hope you're soon feeling better.
  5. Try not to! There's some good advice on preparation here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2F1MDzyW55pg97Tdpp7gqLN/should-i-be-concerned-about-arsenic-in-my-rice
  6. They're just up the road from my old place. Must say the beers look pretty nice. It's interesting, there's a few breweries now doing this, making beers with traditional ingredients but then adding enzymes to break down gluten proteins to the point they're no longer a problem. I followed the finings link to this video from an Escondido brewery with an...
  7. I took a look at your other posts. I'll summarise for others reading. You didn't have the celiac blood tests but were diagnosed via an endoscopy. You also have anemia and osteoporosis I think? Your doctor doesn't think you have it. Another doctor thinks you do. The questions you're asking suggest you're at least unsure and you seem to be asking for permission...
  8. Thanks that's very thoughtful I very rarely get the occluded vision now, when it does occur I think it's down to cross contamination or a gluten exposure of some sort. I've had many diabetes checks over the years and so far so good...
  9. It looks like you have an issue with gluten. If you search the forum you'll see others with abcesses which resolved once gluten was removed. Testing for celiac is probably your next step as RWG says. You'll need to stay eating it for the duration of testing. Alternatively you could go gluten free as it does seem like it's a problem for you. The diet...
  10. Looks ok, though no ingredients listed for the Lingonberry sauce? I eat McDonalds Strawberry sundae without problem here in UK. Next time I'm at Ikea I'll check the yogurt sundae out
  11. The best thing that ever happened to me regarding back pain was giving up gluten! Sadly that's not an option for you. The advice above is good. A sports masseur was the best I found for teasing out locked up muscles. Mckenzie exercises helped a bit. Keep active also.
  12. The pictures have been shocking. I hope that help is forthcoming to those who need to rebuild.
  13. This info may be out of date as its from 2013: http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/IKEA_Food/IKEA_Rest_Nutrition_10813.pdf but it says that it's NOT safe to eat. Although it lists it with a cone, so maybe if you can get it in a cup it may be ok?
  14. How important is the diagnosis to you? Could you stay strictly gluten free without a diagnosis? The only treatment for Celiac is the gluten free diet, so you could simply embark on it and either forgo further testing or risk the endoscopy giving a false negative. If you can stay honest to the diet then you would always have the option of completing...
  15. Just had a look, seems like Corpus Christi area is getting brunt of it. Best wishes to everyone in the great state of Texas. Hope Ennis, Jen and any other Texan forum users are either well away from the area or hunkered down safely!
  16. Yes. Gluten can cause all manner of problems. Check the links in this post and some of the info there on testing. Although the info on tests is a little out of date, the top two mentioned are no longer in common usage. Yes Your call. If you think you won't be able to stay on the diet otherwise you should definitely get tested. ...
  17. I'm glad to hear you're doing well on the diet. We've talked before about it but you could do worse than look into getting some cognitive behavioural therapy or other help to deal with this. Otherwise you can find yourself going round in circles, never really improving. There are people out there enjoying their lives with far worse restrictions than...
  18. You may want to rethink this. Over time you will not be getting the vitamins from 'fortified' gluten grains. You may also find that even though your levels are ok that you do better with some supplementation. I take a B multi vitamin and it makes a difference. I've also been taking magnesium, calcium and zinc and again its proving beneficial. Anyway, food...
  19. With any luck your metabolism will stabilise as you progress on the diet. In any case, the pasta and baked potatoes may not be the best fuel you could take on board. The potatoes in particular have a really high GI index http://www.livestrong.com/article/77584-diabetes-low-gi-list/ and would help to spike your blood sugar and leave you feeling hungrier quicker...
  20. If you think that you will struggle to stay gluten free without a diagnosis then consider doing a gluten challenge and begin the testing process. I did this and by keeping a diary during the challenge period I was able to see my symptoms returning with the gluten and once I knew just how bad it made me feel I knew I would never knowingly eat it again regardless...
  21. This: One mistake a lot make is just switching their previous grain choices to the gluten-free versions. The problem is that they're still difficult for digestion and you can find yourself reacting to them even though they're gluten-free. I eat far less gluten-free cereal or bread now than I did when I ate gluten and if I do overdo it my body lets...
  22. I just wanted to say that regardless of what test results you get give serious thought to going properly gluten free once testing is complete. I suffered almost 20 years of sciatic back pain along with many of the other symptoms you list above and only found relief once I removed gluten from my diet. I went back on for testing, results were negative for celiac...
  23. It's persistent alright. Another interesting article from Jefferson Adams, a man whose parents must've envisaged him in the White House at some point when they named him. Maybe he'll get there yet, but for now thanks for the article. Nice to see research underway, the Italians leading the way once more. Some irony in the home of gluten foods...
  24. Hi David and welcome GF01 has given you good advice. It may also be a good idea to hunt out the results of your previous test if you have them and post them here. When you see the allergist you can discuss your options but basically you can either pursue further testing, which could mean going back on gluten and feeling crappy, or just self declare...
