  1. Welcome to the forum Dahlj! I gave to disagree on this: A weak positive is exactly as it sounds. Positive, but only just over the line. Positive nonetheless. Sure any diagnostic process may require further corroboration, via further testing, endoscopy, symptoms, response to gluten-free diet, but the test is what it is. Maybe, but if...
  2. I had two different diagnoses of a rash in two consecutive visits. I get the feeling its not an exact science!
  3. Yes, but you also have to keep things in proportion or you'd never leave the house There are sensible steps you can take to reduce risk, but you should be aiming to be in control of your gluten issue, not being controlled by it. Vigilance is healthy, paranoia not so much! It may help if you tell us a little more about yourself and when you came to realise...
  4. This is what the Beeb came up with: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2F1MDzyW55pg97Tdpp7gqLN/should-i-be-concerned-about-arsenic-in-my-rice I always washed rice anyway, just need to get better prepared and remember to pre soak!
  5. Welcome to you both I found recovery after doing the gluten challenge wasn't as dramatic as my first initial reaction to going gluten free. My stomach became very loud and gurgling and was unsettled for some time. Some things went quite quickly, brain fog for instance, other neuro things took longer. Some of them I didn't even notice as I wasn't aware...
  6. Maybe get your own pipe and try that? It would remove one variable at least?
  7. No need for that. Go for basmati and prepare it like this to remove 80% of the problem : https://www.treehugger.com/green-food/how-cook-rice-remove-most-arsenic.html
  8. No not at all! I recently treated myself to some gluten free muesli, part of Aldis coeliac month promotion. I don't normall have oats now, at least not in cereal form. Anyway I don't know whether there was some gluten or if I just reacted to the oats but I had a reaction. For me it's typically neurological, so tummy wasn't so bad, but I did kick myself for...
  9. Well, don't be too disappointed if it is. There's very few conditions which can be pretty much totally controlled by a diet change, no medication, no side effects etc. It can be a pain, no question, but if it does turn out to be that you could look forward to a full recovery in time.
  10. Hello and welcome Not a doctor so please take the following as such, just my opinion: Your daughter could have had a false positive, although they're very rare: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/in-blood-tests-are-false-positives-less-common-than-false-negatives/ I believe the DGP-IgG is considered very accurate: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih...
  11. Hello NCGI is still a bit of a mystery, but there's more being learned all the time. You can find out more here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/117969-non-celiac-gluten-sensitivity-a-resource/ It's really a label for people who exhibit reactions to gluten similar to celiac but who don't test positive in the blood tests or endoscopy. People like...
  12. Hello and welcome No-one here can diagnose you (try telling your doctor the internet says its celiac!) but you may have found your answer. All your symptoms could be caused by gluten. Only way is to test and only way for test to work is for you to STAY EATING GLUTEN until all testing is complete. I don't know how read up you are on celiac? There...
  13. I'm just a few days into magnesium supplementation and noticing more vivid dreams already.
  14. Yeah that would've definitely been better but I was in a rush to try and improve my quality of life. I'm on a bit of a mission to try and feel better. do more exercise etc. I don't think its the supplements though in any case, they're all gluten and wheat free according to the labels. I'm leaning more towards the shared kitchen. I had a coupe of things last...
  15. I like Jefferson Adams name. It's like his parents were BIG fans of the founding fathers. All he needs is the middle name Washington for a full set.
  16. So Saturday saw Thigh Twitch arrive early in the morning for surprise visit, Sunday was Back Pain and its close friend Itchy scalp and today it's everyone's favourite wacky Uncle, POTS and Palpitations upon standing. Not a clue what's triggered this one. I don't keep a food diary and I'm pretty careful. Shared kitchen is my best bet. I had a gluten free...
  17. Hello i don't have anything of substance to add to ravenwoods excellent post above, it's really good advice. This is the primary way that gluten affects me also and as bad as it is to undergo it myself, it must be so difficult for a parent to watch it happen to their child. So I wish you both the very best. You don't I think mention how old he...
  18. Have you tried taking magnesium? Others could advise you better but they do seem to be effective.
  19. My dad is a keen gardener and rhubarb always seems like one of the tricker ones to get right. Plus the leaves are poisonous which shocked me when I first discovered it.
  20. Hi Juan and welcome Please don't take this the wrong way. I know you're also seeking to help but the others responding here have been careful to offer suggestions but not conclusions. That may be an approach you'd also like to consider. Whether the child has parasites or not it's clear that diagnosis via internet forum post is not without its risks. Also...
  21. It sounds lovely. I miss rhubarb crumble, used to be a favourite of mine. I also like rhubarb and custard. Have found a nice dairy free one which I have quite often. I'm now thinking of Roobarb & custard the 70s kids tv show which everyone of a certain age in the UK will know the theme tune too
  22. Everyone slips up once in awhile and especially in the first few months on the diet. Don't beat yourself up over it, but do learn from them and try and nail all those potential slip ups. It's a good idea to eat as simply as possible and preparing at least some food yourself may help reduce the fail rate as you're not in control when ordering from a restaurant...
  23. Hello and welcome First, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Myself and many others here can empathise and I know how desperate you will be to simply feel well. You may need to delay that just a little bit longer however: Maybe? It's impossible to answer because the test is looking for antibodies created by the immune system and different...
  24. Hi, this has been a postcode lottery for some time, some health authorities support it others don't. The govt has recently indicated that doctors should no longer prescribe food to celiacs, you should check with your local GP to see if they are still doing this or not. if you want some advice on where to shop just ask
