Only Day 7 of Gluten Free
Jmg replied to MrsPeterson17's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello and welcome The first few days/weeks/months on the diet can be a little strange! You will have good days and bad days and progress isn't always linear, but you will get there. Take a little time out to read this thread, there's lot's of good advice in there! Your doctor is right, it's about healing and allowing your stomach to make the most... -
Positive Blood Tests
Jmg replied to jenna3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome 3 positive looks about as unequivocal as it gets barring the endoscopy for confirmation. You should be proud of yourself for figuring this out and pushing for the test. It looks very much like you've found your answer and hopefully once the testing is complete you can look forward to feeling a lot better. There will be lots of support... -
You're welcome I don't want to attack your doctor, he's the one with the knowledge, experience, qualifications etc. but it does seem as if his conception of celiac is a little narrow. There's some links and further info on testing here and the forum FAQ is stickied above as well. Finally, even if you do exclude celiac don't take that to mean that...

Celiac can present with many different symptoms or even none (silent celiac). You have GI issues, brain fog and I may be wrong but the non alcohol fatty liver seems to be related to celiac: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25617505 Can you get a second opinion? Alternatively, you could try writing a letter saying that: Given my test result...

After diagnonisis, why go 100% gluten free
Jmg replied to sddave's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Its toxic to celiacs. It's generating an immune system response, even a tiny amount keeps that reaction going. So there's not really any benefit to cutting down and mean times the damage is continuing. The other problem is more psychological. To heal you need to be completely gluten free for life. No exceptions, no cheating, not one crumb. That's a... -
Ah, sorry, I'd seen you'd asked previously and hoped you may have take the advice Unfortunately removing gluten prior to testing is one of the classic mistakes that so many of us fall into, myself included! It means that if you notice a difference and then go back for testing you have to reintroduce gluten for a 'challenge' period, which can be much...

What did the doctor say when you asked about testing?

Delay Of Reaction And Symptoms Normal?
Jmg replied to loxleynew's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello again You've replied to an old thread so be aware some of the info above may be out of date... So I suspect this idea seems to come from the suggestion that NCGS primarily activates the innate immune system, triggering an instant response, whereas celiac triggers the adaptive immune system where a response is delayed due to the time to create... -
Ah just found your other post I will answer there!

The blood test works by looking for the antibodies created when a celiac person eats gluten. You have to be eating gluten for the antibodies to appear. So this doesn't make sense! If you were already diagnosed you could use the blood test to establish whether the gluten-free diet was working or to test adherence to the diet, but if celiac hasn't been...

Hello Obviously if you've had a scope you've been down the diagnostic road a stretch so forgive me saying, if you think there's any chance your Doctor will want further blood tests then hold off on going gluten-free! It just makes the diagnostic process so difficult. Particularly as if gluten is a problem for you, it can be much more of a problem if...

They look good, am not conscious of having seen them so far. I usually get the incredibly cheap everyday essentials Aldi tortilla chips. They're not marked gluten free but they were in the coeliac UK guide and dont give me any problems. I can get a pot of salsa and the tortillas for less than a bag of doritos. Incidentally aldi now selling rice...

Yes I felt the same way when I discovered a fish and chip shop on Anglessey that had gone completely gluten-free. I could just order and eat, no explanations, no worries... Seeing the Isle of Wight on that link has sent me right back to childhood memories, Shanklin, The Needles, Blackang Chine, Coloured sand from Alum bay! Happy days!

Is that the chunky one? I really like it. Like you say it's really tasty. I often have it with an egg as a quick meal, but I could well see it as a pasta sauce or pizza spread base.

Here's an interesting article my sister sent me about gluten free items being cheaper in the 'normal' aisles than in the free from section: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/deals-hunter/2017/05/23/gluten-or-wheat-free-find-hidden-bargains-instead/?utm_source=MSE_Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=31-May-17-16788361&utm_campaign=nt...

I'm guessing you're in the UK like me? I'll go back to our spelling! So if I were you I'd prepare thoroughly for the meeting with the GE. Make some short notes of each and any symptom, any correlation you think you've noticed with diet etc. It's really easy to forget something you meant to mention during a consultation, so do make notes in advance. ...

Make sure you tell the GI this!

Hello and welcome You've replied to an old thread, it may be better if you could repost as a new thread in this section: https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/13-celiac-disease-pre-diagnosis-testing-amp-symptoms/ as more people will see it! Maybe a mod will move it (hint hint!) They're unlikely to have ran a celiac blood test. That's what you need...

Sadly you've not received good advice from your doctor. The stats show the majority of celiacs do not present with primarily intestinal issues. This makes it simple. If you're not pursuing a diagnosis you need to proceed as if you have one. You need to adjust, both practically and emotionally, to being fully 100% gluten free permanently. It's about...

Harry if you've got a copy of your test results post them here so we can see which tests were ran. Not every celiac shows on the common tests, but some do on some of the alternative ones. Even if you test negative, Gluten may still be the issue as Tessa says above. It was for me. Just don't start the gluten-free diet until your sure the testing...

It sucks when you've taken precautions and they don't pan out. Take heart however, although it feels like you're back to square one but one exposure doesn't negate all the healing that you've gone through. Eat simply and safely for now and get back on track. You should feel better soon. As for eating out, it's the same as when you learned to ride a bike...

I'm in the UK so I doubt many of the brands I would choose would be available to you. I have had the Kirkland (Costco) coffee without a problem and it's excellent value.
