  1. I know, it's fabulous what alternatives are out there, I use almond, rice, soy milks, haven't had cows milk on its own or in tea coffee etc for years. I prefer the coconut milk I have on cereal now to any that I used to have. I've recently discovered Alpro soy yoghourt and its really nice, so your point above about making my own is getting me thinking! ...
  2. So a big thank you to everyone that's responded. I'll confess I was hoping someone was going to post something along these lines: But no-one did. Instead you've posted some very good, sensible advice which makes a lot of sense to me. I've since read online that trace amounts, such as you'd find I guess in these kind of treats are not allowed. The...
  3. That's such a lovely offer I'm almost sad to tell you I'm now the proud owner of 3 boxes but thanks so much in any case. That was really nice of you. Wow is that the case for all Dairy milk or just the Heroes? That this comes just as I'm trying to kick the milk habit properly is just.... #counts to ten #takes deep breaths, er, annoying...
  4. That is a fascinating read, should be required reading for any scientist really. There are a lot of posts on here and elsehwhere from people who were told that they would / had 'grown out' of it. I had asthma from late childhood and was told similar. I 'grew out of it' 30 years later when I changed my diet.
  5. The negative biopsy doesn't mean you don't have celiac, just that it's unproven. Although if you have a positive blood then there's very good reasons for suspicion. How many biopsies were taken? I had 4, the recommendation in US is 7. The more the better the chance of finding damage. Although it's possible to miss the damage even then, the area is vast...
  6. Thanks Ennis, you're a star when it comes to finding alternatives. You are spot on also about the pimple bumps on chest and back. I also get them on the back of my scalp and in the past on groin too which wasn't great. They were just one part of the many things I lived with before the great discovery and they've cleared up considerably under the gluten...
  7. Do these legendary creatures truly exist? I'd thought they were merely a fairy tale. In any case, I'll claim their share... This is on my list. Although since Wetherspoons introduced their new free refill coffee machine I've yet to cross a Costa doorway. The black coffee from it is lovely and free refills for 1.20 means I'm in caffeine heaven...
  8. I'm not diabetic, although before going gluten free I thought I was and had several negative tests. Gluten definitely screwed up my body's capacity to manage blood sugar. There are several diabetics on the forum however and whilst I'm sure they will answer your thread as soon as they can it would be worth searching the site for some of the past topics as...
  9. I have very slowly come to the conclusion that I have a problem with casein. This is despite being years into the gluten free life and having mostly avoided dairy for a long time. I say mostly because although I would never have had milk in a coffee or with cereal etc. I didn't worry too much if milk was listed in the ingredients of some gluten free processed...
  10. I think now about everything I eat or drink. It doesn't mean I always make the most healthy choice, lots of gluten free foods aren't particularly good for you in terms of fat, salt, sugar etc. content, but that moment of thought beforehand does help me be a little more aware in the moment of what I'm consuming. Years ago I never gave it a second...
  11. I know how much you'd like to tell them what for, but you'll need their help through the diagnostic process so try and restrain that impulse! You need to request a coeliac test but you may encounter some resistance. You need to make as strong a case as possible for the test. Get an appointment asap and make some concise notes detailing any symptoms you...
  12. Hmm... Of course if it works fantastic, but it would take some serious evidence. I'm far more likely to take something like this to counter cross contamination than to go full gluten diet. I think the gluten free / gluten reduced beer controversy would put me off. Having experienced a reaction to beer treated with an enzyme I'd always be worried about...
  13. Yes this is another check on my bingo card... I had multiple diabetes checks over the years as this often happened to me. I would 'crash' get very weak, absolutely ravenous and be shaking. I came the conclusion that gluten interfered with my bodies capacity to regulate blood sugar, but when tested later at doctors I would not show up as diabetic. The...
  14. The story so far... asda, cheapest I've seen at 1.50 for 4. They look the part but they have the same issues as you've highlighted with Tesco's. They are quite similar to the coop ones, so much so they may be made by the same supplier. I have a box of the tesco but not yet eaten them... Aldi, 1.59 and very good. Pastry is thinner, filling is has...
  15. If you want an alternative there's some listed here: https://www.verywell.com/gluten-free-hot-chocolate-562346
  16. Thanks for documenting this, as you say it's helpful for others. I'm sorry your having to go round the houses again! I presented the same rash at the same dermatology centre on two successive appointments to two different dermatologists and got two different diagnoses. So these days I'm cautious about what they say. I had a quick look at your posts...
  17. Not entirely. I get occasional periods of occluded vision, last about a couple of minutes in one eye, these I think are related to occasional cross contamination. Note I've not been diagnosed with optic neuritis and they may be retinal migraines - I'm not willing to put myself through any further testing... There is a higher incidence from...
  18. Ok I'm filling in my celiac / gluten sensitive card here and I now have 2 numbers, this doesn't entitle me to call bingo (that's you and your doctors prerogative) but I'm beginning to check the prizes and thinking about that yacht I've had my eyes on. I suffered from unexplained optic neuritis for over 20 years. I was checked for diabetes and, such is...
  19. Harry when I went gluten free I think a lot of inflammation left my body, so it looked like I lost more weight than I actually did. Maybe thats the case for you? Especially as you mention your face. I'm kind of shocked now when I look back at photos of my face all swollen.
  20. Hello and welcome You described those symptoms so well, I like the saran wrap around the brain metaphor, although we call it cling film in the UK. I used to feel like I had a divers mask on or as if I was talking to the world through a bank tellers window glass. As Ennis says its still early days. There's some good advice on cracking down on hidden...
  21. Hi Naomi and welcome I've had a somewhat similar experience. I also tested negative on the NHS blood test after having been mostly gluten free. I was referred however based on symptoms and did a 6 week gluten challenge followed by an endoscopy which was also negative. However during the challenge all my symptoms returned, so I was advised to be gluten...
  22. Hey Jane where ya going today! I don't have a celiac diagnosis but gluten isn't good for me. About a year after going gluten free I developed a very similar looking rash on both elbows. It was extremely itchy. I realised I was eating a cereal with barley malt which was no longer on the safe celiac list here in the UK. I stopped eating the cereal and...
  23. So my first impulse is to say he's a massive d***head and you should tell him where to go, but this is why I'm not a relationship counselor and single! Of course he may be perfectly nice, but he's behaving like one and you're right to expect some effort on his side to understand. Relationships are about give and take. Talking about these things can...
  24. Hello again Thanks for posting this follow-up. It's good to hear what's happened and after seeing lots of bad doctor stories it's good that you've found one who isn't letting their expectations lead their diagnosis. As you've guessed others will be reading your story and its helpful to them too. I know what it's like to get the negative scope after...
  25. I loved San Antonio when I visited. Second only to lovely Austin on my Texas city list.
