  1. Here is a link on getting tested for Celiac disease. https://celiac.org/celiac-disease/understanding-celiac-disease-2/celiacdiseasesymptoms/
  2. What type of wheat allergy testing did you have done? Was it a blood test?
  3. There is wheat allergy, wheat intolerance and celiac disease. Without the correct testing it is not possible to distinguish them. Different varieties of wheat, how it is cooked the state of your immune system (it can wind up and wind down), the health of your gut and lots of other things can effect how you feel and the reaction that you get. Some sourdough...
  4. Everyone messes up occasionally on the gluten free diet and I don't think that is a very big deal. It is good to be careful but I wouldn't worry if you mess up occasionally. There are a lot of processed foods though that contain gluten in them though and that can cause problems for people with celiac disease. Oats, for example are often heavily cross...
  5. Celiac disease can cause anxiety disorder and ocd. There is a good chance that going gluten free will help your ocd, but I don't know for sure. A lot of people on this forum are able to go gluten free even in a shared kitchen. I am very careful about cross contamination but It is not something I worry about. Like I put a seat belt on when I drive but...
  6. So I am trying to avoid corn. I think I react to corn badly. I am trying to figure out if high fructose corn syrup is considered safe on a corn free diet. High fructose corn syrup is made by separating corn starch from the corn zein. I am not sure if trace amounts still remain or there may be other ingredients is soda or candy that are made from corn. ...
  7. Hi, I am glad you are feel better on the gluten free diet. Two months is a really long time for the digestive problems to go away. A lot of people with celiac disease recover quickly (maybe a week or two) on a gluten free diet. Other medical problems could slow down the healing process. Some people make a food journal and rotate foods to see if...
  8. In certain cases a doctor may recommend shortening the gluten challenge. It might be a good idea to get tested ASAP. https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/what-is-a-gluten-challenge/ Celiac disease can cause brain and nerve damage. A lot of people on this forum get anxiety or brain fog. The hearing changes are a bit more worrisome to me though based...
  9. I have read some warnings about cinnamon causing liver damage. I don't know how much of a risk it is, but the web sites said that cinnamon should only be eaten intermittently and is small quantities. Cinnamic acid is metabolized into benzoate in the liver. Sodium benzoate is used to treat hyperammonia.
  10. I think wheat allergies are fairly common. It might be a good idea to get tested for that first if it is easier.
  11. Doesn't sound very much like celiac disease if you are sure there is no cross contamination is going on. Also an idea would be to keep track of everything you eat or do leading up to an episode to see if you have any other food sensitivities.
  12. I have read about different types of antibodies to wheat causing problems. I can also see how some unrelated medical problems might cause an increase in someones wheat sensitivity. NCGS is hard to study as everyone is very different. What works for one person may not work for another. It is not normal for someone (if that person has no medical problems...
  13. I feel best if I avoid dairy, corn, rice, soy, coffee and alcohol. Other people have a different set of problem ingredients or they just avoid wheat. I feel terrible emotionally if I eat wheat. Also I suspect that other foods can cause confusion, depending on the health of my gut and the blood brain barrier. I try to balance my bodies PH based on things...
  14. I think wheat can cause other types of auto-immune diseases besides celiac disease. The line between celiac disease and NCGS can be blurred in some cases. There are definitely other types food sensitivities. Dairy consumption increase someones chances (slightly I think) of developing type one diabetes. Type one diabetes is an autoimmune condition. It is...
  15. Oh, okay I see what you are saying. It looks like the standard blood tests for celiac disease are included in the wheat zoomer test. An idea might be to get her tested, if you haven't already for vitamin deficiencies. Autoimmune problems can make it difficult for the gut to absorb vitamins.
  16. I can totally see why you might find the holidays stressful do to celiac disease. On the other hand though, if someone has no social anxiety and no clue what celiac disease is I can see how there could be some major communication problems and misunderstandings. I don't think the general population has a good sense of the seriousness of celiac disease...
  17. I read online some about the wheat zoomer test. The standard way to diagnose celiac disease is to measure the level of antibodies in the blood combined with a biopsy. All celiac organizations say that that is how celiac disease should be diagnosed. I am not sure but I don't think the Zoomer test does this. I am skeptical of the zoomer test. It...
  18. I saw huge improvements when I finally eliminated cross contamination from my diet. This meant no oats. I think going dairy free, corn free, grain free and avoiding processed foods helped. It took about a month for the diet for it to start working. I have gout and when my uric acid level in my blood is lower I tend to feel better. I take some glutamine...
  19. If you are talking about blood tests on a five year old kid, how far apart were the two tests taken?
  20. I am assuming the second test result was lower than the first, and that the tests were five years apart? (The post title is kindof confusing.) You said he was put him on a gluten free diet after the blood tests. I am assuming this happened five years ago after the first test?
  21. I feel bad for about a week after eating gluten, but the first two days are absolutely miserable. Other people have different reaction times. If your headaches are caused by gluten you might feel better immediately or it may take more time. I think the current recommendation is to eat gluten everyday (say a half a slice of bread) for 12 weeks before the...
  22. If you live in the US legally soy has to be labeled on the ingredients list. It should say contains soy or soy based ingredients. The ground turkey could contain other problematic ingredients, but they should be listed on the ingredients. I am avoiding chicken as it says it contains a vegetable based broth. I don't know for sure but this may mean that it...
  23. Some people have other food sensitivities because of cross contamination which doesn't give the intestine a chance to heal. The first priority is treating celiac disease is to make sure one is not eating any gluten. After that if there are still issues an elimination diet can be helpful for some people.
  24. I am not very familiar with celiac test numbers. I think you are right, though about needing a biopsy to know for sure if you are celiac or not. https://celiac.org/celiac-disease/understanding-celiac-disease-2/diagnosing-celiac-disease/screening/
