WHAT. CAN. I. EAT.
ch88 replied to meganhope's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Raw vegetables may be difficult to digest compared to cooked ones. I don't think they damage the gut though. I never heard that celiacs should avoid vegetables. Peanuts are safe for celiacs. Bananas are also safe if you are careful not to step on the peel. -
You might try mint tea. If you have delayed stomach emptying it speeds up the process by relaxing the stomach mussels. It could also make the symptoms worse though.

Thanks for posting your story. It took me many years to figure out I was celiac. If you do decide to get a biopsy it is recommend that you eat wheat for two weeks before the biospy. Here is a link that someone else posted on a different thread. https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/what-is-a-gluten-challenge/ It sounds to me like wheat could...

I edited this post to make it clearer. Celiac organisations recommend both a blood test and a biopsy. It is necessary to eat wheat before the test to get an accurate result. Once you are diagnosed with celiac disease it is best to stop cold turkey. The sooner you quit eating gluten the sooner you will feel better probably. I don't think there...

I have heard other people on this forum talk about having gluten withdrawl symptoms. This does mean it is likely an issue for you. Celiac disease can sometimes disrupt normal brain barrier function and hormone levels. It may take a while for the body to readjust back to normal. I take fish oil, a complete gluten free mulitivitamin/multimineral supplement...

Have you looked into trying to get food stamps? I don't know if that would work or not but it is an idea.

I wouldn't worry about eating rice as there is a very low risk of cross contamination. I have looked at my rice grains and they all look the same to me. It is theoretically possible that some gluten dust could have gotten on them at some point but I don't think that happens very often. Processed food like corn tortillas are more likely to be cross contaminated...

8 year old possible celiac
ch88 replied to IrishTwins2009's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be celiac disease. Here is a link to some of the possible symptoms of celiac disease. https://celiac.org/celiac-disease/understanding-celiac-disease-2/celiacdiseasesymptoms/ -
Syncope, Convulsions. I'm not Crazy.
ch88 replied to jetplanelovers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get anxiety and confusion if I accidentally eat something with gluten. A lot of people get neurological problems or ataxia after eating wheat. There is a lot of information and studies online about this but nobody knows for sure why. It may be different for different people. In some cases celiac disease can trigger autoimmune encephalitis. A food allergy...- 17 replies

Does Anyone Else Have Dysphagia?
ch88 replied to Demetria77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would also recommend a brain scan as the brain stem controls swallowing and it can get damaged. You can google the common foods that people are allergic to. I would try an elimination diet.- 20 replies

I don't think throwing up when you eat wheat is a very normal symptom of celiac disease. You should talk to a doctor about it. Projectile vomiting can happen when there is increased pressure in the brain (like a brain bleed) and probably in other cases. Something unusual is going on but I don't know what. It could be a wheat allergy or another complication...

Trouble figuring out food intolerances
ch88 replied to saraszat's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You might try an alkaline diet. The body tries to maintain a certain level of IGG antibodies in the blood. The body can filter out antibodies through the digestive track and the kidneys. An overly acidic diet is hard on the kidneys. Celiac disease can damage the kidneys and kidney stones are associated with digestive problems. The mechanism for how...- 3 replies

Locking old threads. An idea for site improvement.
ch88 replied to ch88's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
That makes sense. It does seem common from reading posts on this site, that someone will get confused and respond to ancient questions. Sometimes a whole bunch of people do. There might be a way to have a pop up message when replying to an old message or something along those lines. -
Locking old threads. An idea for site improvement.
ch88 posted a topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
A lot of the new posters post messages on old threads. I know I am not supposed to post to old threads, which means I can't reply to the question or I have to answer in an email. Also it is difficult to remember to always check the date on the original post. Can the old threads get locked after say a year to prevent this from happening? That would be... -
Here are some links I found which may be useful for people trying to treat a mental disorder with diet. Celiac is causes by IGA antibodies. Other antibodies to other foods may also be a problem though for some people. The AIP diet is a more restrictive diet that removes a lot of commonly problematic foods for a few months. Digestive problems are strongly...

I read this artical that you might find useful. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2012/05/antioxidant-shows-promise-as-treatment-for-certain-features-of-autism-study-finds.html Saint Johns Wort is an herbal antidepressant that is available without a prescription. https://nccih.nih.gov/health/stjohnswort/sjw-and-depression.htm There... -
You can try mint tea it is known to calm the digestive system. Also i would consider having a snack a few hours before dinner. That way the food is more spread out. Maybe a fruit or vegetable as they are nutritious. i would eat different types of food with each meal.

What to do after eating gluten
ch88 replied to Casey1952's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would just generally eat healthy. Avoid milk and fructose for a while as they can be difficult to digest before your intestine heals. Glutamine powder is a protein that is available in grocery stores. Glutamine is the main fuel for the cells that line the intestine, and it may help them grow back faster. I don't know for sure about alchohol but I... -
speech delay b/c of gluten?
ch88 replied to izamo12's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Celiac disease can cause the types of symptoms you mentioned. A speech delay can also be a sign of autism spectrum disorder even without motor or coordination problems. Pku is another common diet related disorder. i don't have the medical knowledge to know if that is what is going on or not in this case. -
I read a study online that a lot of people with celiac disease have a really high level of anxiety when they first start a gluten free diet. According to the study a year later their anxiety levels about things are much more normal. Vitamin deficiencies might contribute to this. I take a gluten free complete vitamin/mineral tablet each day. I...

Thanks for posting. Gluten can cause a lot of mental problems. I don't think that the general population or even doctors are aware of this. My story is similar: I had extreme social anxiety, problems with anger and mental confusion on gluten. I had a very intense and confused thought process. People seemed really weird to me and I didn't understand them...

I wouldn't think citric acid would be a problem as it is highly purified. Protein is what causes a reaction, and it is unlikely that even trace amounts are present.

Ooops. I didn't see that this was a (newly updated) ancient thread.
