  2. Cycling Lady, Oh, Cycling Lady, You say your Celiac Disease was diagnosed because you jumped on the bandwagon with your friends who were all having age fifty colonoscopies. And, surprisingly (because you had no overt symptoms), you were diagnosed with Celiac. You're an accidental Celiac! Oh, yes, you did have a bit of a stretch after the...
  3. Simon, thank you for this your link to such wonderful information from Dr. Lonsdale! I am a big fan of his! I do hope you will drop in again from time to time. Knitty Kitty
  4. Hi, Corinne, Brave girl! Cheers to you! Thanks for trying my suggestion. For a week then, no Vitamin C. Everything else keep the same. The RDA for Vitamin C is between 75 and 120 mg per day, depending on age and sex. So, while still not a large amount, it's still more than required and you've been taking it a while. Let's see what happens...
  5. Corinne, Histamine causes the adrenal glands to release adrenaline, it's the same adrenaline that's released in the fight or flight response. Adrenaline counters the histamine. Eventually the adrenal glands can't keep up and become fatigued, and then things go downhill from there. I rather doubt you'll get scurvy in three days. Not taking...
  6. Corinne, I apologize for overlooking the obvious. Are you still taking that Vitamin C? Could you stop taking it for several days and see if your symptoms improve? Excess Vitamin C can cause gastrointestinal problems. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminC-HealthProfessional/#h8 "Vitamin C has low toxicity and is not believed to...
  7. One last article about what may happen when you start taking thiamine. https://www.hormonesmatter.com/refeeding-syndrome-thiamine-deficiency/ When I started taking thiamine, I thought I was having a reaction. I felt tingling and buzzing along my arms and legs and body...it's very difficult to describe. I stopped and started with different brands...
  8. Further down the rabbit hole..... Thiamine deficiency causes mast cells to degranulate releasing histamine. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9184654 "while in thiamine deficiency, increased histamine levels have been reported in the rat thalamus (79) and are associated with cell death and proliferation as well as mast cell degranulation...
  9. Corrine D., Well, then, I'm going back to my original theory, that you may have a thiamine deficiency presenting as Gastrointestinal Beriberi. You've stated "I only get digestive symptoms (pain, diarrhea) when I eat a very small amount of anything else but beef" and you cannot tolerate fillers in supplements. Those fillers are usually some sort...

Vitamin D deficiency in urticaria https://ctajournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13601-018-0234-7 And... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25780889 Vitamin D and Sunlight https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3897598/ I can't take cod liver oil because of...
  11. Hi, Corrine D., Sorry to hear you're not improving. I've been doing some research and I wondered if any of these might help you. Some Celiacs develop a sensitivity to sulfur, sulfites in foods... https://www.doctorauer.com/paleo-diet-not-working-exploring-sulfur-intolerance-as-a-possible-connection/ You said earlier you could not...
  12. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. Malnutrition is vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Newly diagnosed Celiacs may have nutritional deficiencies. Some can have subclinical deficiencies for years. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3820055/ Thiamine deficiency in ALS https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...
  13. You should get tested before supplementing with Cobalamine (Vitamin B12). You need to get a baseline. MMA and homocysteine levels should be measured, as well as ferretin, folate and iron. Once you start supplementing, the test results will be artificial higher and will skew the real levels. Better to wait without supplementation in order to get an accurate...
  14. High caloric malnutrition causes obesity. The vitamins used to enrich your gluten products are often synthetic and have reduced bioavailability. There's questions as to the quantity of vitamins added. The RDA's are set too low. Subclinical nutritional deficiencies can occur. Especially thiamine deficiency. Thiamine deficiency and obesity: https...
  15. Found some more articles on Vitamin D. Vitamin D needs magnesium to work well... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29480918 And Vitamin D and sunlight.... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3897598/ Hope this helps!
  16. Here's the study about high dose Vitamin D supplementation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4128480/#!po=24.4681 I definitely took more than 10,000 out a day. My health began to improve almost immediately. My level has been measured as in the eighties. I try to keep it there. Being so low, it took several months to rebuild my...
  17. Yes, I was severely deficient in Vitamin D. My doctor was shocked at how low it was. He prescribed D2, which is synthetic. My body didn't like it. I got the natural form, D3. My body liked those. I craved those little capsules. I ate them like m&m's. It was crazy. However, recent research confirmed that high dose supplementation is the best way...
  18. I experienced swallowing difficulty and excessive salivation before my celiac disease diagnosis. It was due to thiamine deficiency. My dentist frequently commented on how much saliva I produced, but no explanation was given. I couldn't understand why I had such trouble swallowing if I had that much saliva. Nevertheless, everything I ate stuck in...
  19. AdmiralP, Did you have nitrous oxide (laughing gas or anesthesia)? Nitrous oxide can deplete your stores of Vitamin B12. The nitrogen in the gas binds permanently to the cobalt in Vitamin B12 and your body can't use the vitamin anymore. If you are low in B12, a dose of nitrous oxide can deplete B12 so severely you start having deficiency symptoms...
  20. I've found several articles that explains that thiamine deficiency can manifest as vomiting and gastrointestinal symptoms, especially when there's a heavy carbohydrate load. Here's one... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4175961/#!po=70.0000 And diabetes is connected to thiamine deficiency...... http://www.hormonesmatter.com/diabetes...
  21. Wheatwacked, So glad you've taken up the Celiac Guinea Pig challenge. ? I hope you will keep us posted on your results. Might I suggest a food/mood/poo'd journal to keep track of results? 23. Hi all! It's the casein in the dairy! Parts of the casein molecules resemble parts of the gluten molecules and the body reacts the same as when exposed to gluten. Read this neat-O experiment done on volunteer Celiacs..... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1810502/#!po=26.3889 Those symptoms listed sound like a histamine...

  25. Excessive saliva production is caused by a deficiency in Niacin (vitamin B3). I experienced this for years before my Celiac diagnosis. My dentist always commented on it whenever I visited, but my dentist could not explain why this happened. Celiac causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. Yes, vitamin deficiencies occur in Celiac...
