ktb, I wonder if getting an erythrocyte transketolase test now would be possible. It's a special test for thiamine deficiency which is one of the vitamins most rapidly lost. I'm also concerned about the increased dosage of the proton pump inhibitors... And another article... https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28220520/ My heart...

lanlanonearth, I'm sorry this thread is diverging. We're just concerned and wish the best for your son. Some of us have gone undiagnosed for so many years developing other health problems along the way, so be forgiving if we're over enthusiastic in our desires to nip it in the bud to prevent further complications. If only our mothers had been as perceptive...

Cricket Flour Makes Really Good Gluten-Free Bread
knitty kitty commented on Scott Adams's article in Gluten-Free Grains and Flours
I have reconsidered after reading this post on the Cockroach Flour article. I have a shellfish allergy. I wouldn't want to risk triggering an allergic reaction like I have with shellfish for "bread".- 16 comments

Candida infection or something else?

Plumbago, Earlier I did a Google search for Dr. Derrick Lonsdale. This video came up. I watched the video. "Elliott" discusses Dr. Lonsdale's book. The information Elliott gives is accurate according to Dr. Lonsdale's book and Dr. Lonsdale's website. I repeated the search just now, and you are right. That video does not come up on the same... -
The person you quoted hasn't been on the forum since 2013. Read Posterboy's posts. He's given great information about thiamine deficiency causing lower leg edema and reducing inflammation.

Microbial transglutaminase (aka. Meat Glue) is an additive used to enhance flavor and texture in lots of products. It acts the same as tissue transglutaminase which the body produces during a reaction to gluten or dairy. It's classified as a processing agent and therefore doesn't have to be on the ingredient list. I can't eat dairy (lactose intolerant...

Candida infection or something else?

P.S. The World Health Organization has a field test for thiamine deficiency. They ask people to squat and then rise back to a standing position. Going down into a squat shouldn't be a problem. If you can't get back up, you're probably thiamine deficient. This happened to me in the grocery store. I squatted down to reach something on the bottom... -
Candida infection or something else?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Magnesium works best with thiamine! Vitamin D needs other vitamins, too! I hope Plumbago watches it, too, because it explains her SVT. 😸 -
I would add dehydration. The body needs water to digest all those carbohydrates, hence the constipation. When dehydrated, the body will retain any water it has, hence the warm extremities and lack of sweating. As the body acquires more water, frequent urination may occur. As Scott said, diabetes may be occurring. With such a high intake of...

Candida infection or something else?

Also, you may want to get your mineral levels checked. Magnesium and iron deficiencies might be contributing to your symptoms, too. Magnesium works with thiamine and the other B vitamins. -
Candida infection or something else?
knitty kitty replied to Ferguston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Replenishing the vitamins is what will heal deficiencies. There are eight B vitamins. They all work together. It is unlikely to have a deficiency in just one of the B vitamins. The B vitamins and Vitamin C are all water soluble and can be lost quickly. (B12 is the only one that can be stored for any length of time in the liver.) Thiamine is often... -
Candida infection or something else?
knitty kitty replied to Ferguston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes. There's a so called "paradox" where you feel worse before you feel better as your body starts functioning properly with the proper vitamins. Perhaps this well explain..... http://www.hormonesmatter.com/paradox-vitamin-deficiency-disease/ -
Candida infection or something else?
knitty kitty replied to Ferguston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Furguston, All those symptoms you listed are symptoms of high histamine levels. Mast cells release their histamine when told to do so by T cells that have found an antigen. Calcium ions inside the mast cell relay the degranulation orders from the T cells on the outside of the mast cell to the histamine storage tank within the mast cell. When... -

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholecalciferol "It is produced by the ultraviolet irradiation of 7-dehydrocholesterol extracted from lanolin found in sheep's wool." Congratulations! Seems you probably have a wool/lanolin allergy now. Not every reaction is caused by gluten. -
Candida infection or something else?
knitty kitty replied to Ferguston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry, but that's not how allergic reactions work. That's not how hypersensitivity reactions work. You have to have a sensitizing dose before you have an allergic reaction. Prior to the sensitizing doses and the big allergic reaction, your body reacts stronger and more aggressively to the antigen. But there's a tipping point, that sensitizing dose... -
Candida infection or something else?
knitty kitty replied to Ferguston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ferguston, Do you have an allergy to wool? Or to fish? Or yeast? Some vitamin D 3 supplements are made from lanolin from sheep's wool. If you have an allergy to wool, this could explain your hypersensitivity/histamine reaction to your supplements. Some vitamin D supplements are made from fish, like cod liver oil. If you're allergic to... -

Cricket Flour Makes Really Good Gluten-Free Bread
knitty kitty commented on Scott Adams's article in Gluten-Free Grains and Flours
Yes, I'd try it! I cannot tolerate many of the gluten free breads available in my local grocery stores because they add corn and microbial transglutaminase and such. Not to mention they taste like cardboard.- 16 comments

Symptoms
knitty kitty replied to Davidcrook's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
David and Jo, Those symptoms you described are also symptoms of early thiamine deficiency. The trouble breathing, cough, rapid heart rate, fatigue and digestive problems are all early thiamine deficiency symptoms. We can become low in thiamine within two weeks if we eat a high carbohydrate diet, are very physically active especially outdoors... -

knitty kitty replied to Smitty1024's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Smitty, Stay hydrated. Allow your body time to rest and recuperate. Avoid NSAIDs. They can cause more irritation. Try a hot water bottle or a heating pad for discomfort. Some of us like bone broth or "cooked to a mush and easy to digest" stews. Crock pots and instant pots are great for this. Avoid processed foods. Avoid... -
ktb, Do keep in mind that starting supplementing now will skew future tests for vitamin deficiencies. Getting a baseline before beginning the supplements might be the better way to go, but considering the covid pandemic, going for proper testing may be undesirable. At least a call to your daughter's doctor may be warranted. Taking supplements before...

Are you keeping a food/mood/poo'd journal? What does it say you ate twenty-four to forty-eight hours ago? Is your transit time longer? Are you constipated? Which supplements did you take about then? Was it a large amount or a size consistent with your supplement amount? Something light colored.....Gluten free tortilla? Beans? Marshmallows...

ktb, Sorry your daughter isn't feeling well. You're such a great Mom to seek answers! Welcome to the forum. All the symptoms your daughter is having are early signs of thiamine deficiency. Be sure her doctor does the erythrocyte transketolase test to see if she's deficient. Checking the levels of the other eight B vitamins would be a good idea...

Are you taking magnesium? Sometimes magnesium supplements can make your stool a lighter color.

Sounds like what I experienced with Histamine Intolerance and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. You can have Histamine Intolerance and MCAS without being Celiac. I found this article about Red Meat causing high histamine levels... https://mastcell360.com/are-you-raising-your-histamine-levels-with-these-meat-handling-mistakes/ Bone Broth...
