"As soon as I add processed food (chips, crackers, fruit snacks) back into her diet, her symptoms (though subtle) return. The longest I tried a whole food based diet is probably a 3-4 weeks, which has not been long enough to positively impact her blood-work. " Go back to the whole foods diet. Processed foods can contain a food additive calle...

Reynaud's - how do YOU manage the symptoms?
knitty kitty replied to squirmingitch's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Evening primrose oil and omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil) will help both rheumatoid arthritis and reynaud's. Getting one's vitamin D level up to 70 ng/mol or above will help reynaud's, as will supplementing magnesium, niacin and B6. I have Reynaud's since childhood and these things have helped me. -
So disgusted! (With myself and Celiac)
knitty kitty replied to SabineHP's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sabine, I have suffered from the brain fog and hearing loss when glutenized. It is very scary to have one's cognitive powers decline into dementia. I found mine was related to Vitamin B12 deficiency. Celiac Disease can impair absorption of vitamin B12. If one is already low in B12 and gets glutenized, the problem can be exasperated. You may... -
Healthysquirrel, Please have your doctor check your Vitamin D level! Potential Pitfalls even on Fasano Diet?
knitty kitty replied to Alaskaguy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Alaskaguy, Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to put in my two cents. I prefer the Autoimmune Protocol diet because it helps heal the gut so quickly. It's a bit more strict than the Fasano diet but the results are striking. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5647120/#!po=43.7500 People with Celiac and DH have a problem with... -
Maybe celiac?
knitty kitty replied to Cows573's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Vitamin D deficiency can cause menstrual irregularities. Vitamin D acts like a hormone and helps regulate your cycle. Because Celiac Disease causes malabsorption, many people develop deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. You might want to have your doctor check your Vitamin D level with a blood test. Hope this helps -
Ennis, I would recommend taking a low dose of thiamine (or benfotiamine - see below). I take 100 mg of thiamine with my meals. Taking thiamine at night can lead to insomnia. And I would recommend taking the vitamin D in divided doses with meals as well. Big round hamburger buns sound great. I don't do hot dogs because of the microbial transglutaminase...

Hey, Ennis! I'm sorry to hear you're still having problems with so many things. I wanted to encourage you. Talking with the Mighty is a good way to go. He listens. Have you thought about a mail order business? Those hot dog buns sound delicious, as do so many of your chocolatey hemp desserts and other creations! I, for one, would love to...

deezer, Have you had a colonoscopy to check for diverticulitis or diverticulosis or Chrone's disease? Pancreatic function tests? Spleen function tests? Gall bladder or gall stones? Kidney stones? What was the nature of your original injury? Curious, Knitty Kitty Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back.....

Yes, I've suffered from insomnia and terrifying nightmares after being exposed to gluten. I found taking magnesium (500mg), Vitamin B6 (100mg), and tryptophan (500 mg) will help me. The insomnia goes, I actually feel sleepy, and I have deep restorative sleep without nightmares. Serotonin is produced in your intestines and then goes to the brain and...

I heard you should put broken teeth in whole milk and then in the fridge. I cracked off a corner of my back molar recently. It doesn't show, but I can empathize. A celiac relative cracked off both of her front teeth. My Asperger sense of humor says it's time to go shopping for a grill! Maybe adding a calcium supplement to balance out...

Plumbago, I was reading some articles on Eosinophilic esophagitis and ran across this article. It talks about EOE in pediatric patients having sleep disordered breathing... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=eosinophilic+esophagitis+sleep+disordered+breathing I wonder if EOE could be contributing to your sleep apnea. Hope this...

Enlarged tonsil and pain on RHS
knitty kitty replied to Legend13's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you been checked for Eosinophilic esophagus? Eosinophils are a type of white blood cells that infiltrate and cause inflammation. They can infiltrate the throat and cause inflammation there. Eosinophilic esophagus happens with Celiac Disease sometimes. Sometimes it's due to food allergies like wheat, dairy, and soy. https://www.mayoclinic.org... -
Ennis, I'm really sorry to hear you're still struggling with this. I did some research. What I found was the usual recommendation for enzymes, which you're already doing. Must admit I was stumped, so I kept researching and, though it feels like grasping at straws and way out on a limb, I found there's a connection between Sjögren's syndrome ...

Anxiety (also question about gluten free experience)
knitty kitty replied to Anna1990's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Anna! Wheat containing products are required to be fortified with vitamins and minerals. Cutting wheat containing products out of your diet may result in an inadequate intake of nutrients your body needs, especially the B vitamins. Your body can't make the eight B vitamins, so they need to be replenished every day. Your body can't store them... -
Plumbago, This article I referenced above https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3897598/#!po=40.2857 also has guidelines for treating insufficiency or deficiency. It also discusses toxicity which is rare. (One would have to take extremely high doses of supplements for a very long time. If it does get too high, stop taking supplements...

This article Cycling Lady posted states https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminD-HealthProfessional/ "Perhaps surprisingly, geographic latitude does not consistently predict average serum 25(OH)D levels in a population. Ample opportunities exist to form vitamin D (and store it in the liver and fat) from exposure to sunlight during the spring,...

Plumbago, The only thing that changed was my Vitamin D levels. My Vitamin D levels improved through supplementation before the weight loss. My old doctor only tested my Vitamin D levels because my insurance would cover it. And probably to shut me up. He refused to test for any other vitamin deficiencies because he "couldn't make any money off prescribing...

I HAD sleep apnea. I don't have problems with it anymore as long as my vitamin D is in the eighties at least. When I first had problems with sleep apnea, my vitamin D was very low. My old doctor prescribed synthetic Vitamin D 2 (big pharma's synthetic form that the body can't use well). I had an aversion to those. Can't explain why, but I just dreaded...

Nutrition: Vegan, celiac, FODMAP meal plan
knitty kitty replied to healthysquirrel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! I follow the Autoimmune Protocol diet which helps intestinal healing better than the fodmap diet. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5647120/ Keep an open mind. Be open to growth.... https://www.phoenixhelix.com/2016/01/24/can-i-do-the-paleo-autoimmune-protocol-as-a-vegetarian/ Hope this helps! -

knitty kitty replied to RebeccaR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My advice is to go ahead and have the endoscopy without doing a gluten challenge. Sure, you've started healing, but as we age, some of us can take longer to heal completely. Sometimes as long as eighteen months to two years. At least you'll be able to get a starting point from which to measure future progress. And it's also important to check... -
Hello! I've found that passion flower extract helps me sleep, especially after being glutened because it is also an anti-inflammatory. It helps one relax and get good deep restorative sleep. Hello! Have you been tested for diabetes? Has your doctor tested your blood glucose level at your appointments? Getting sleepy after meals til you feel like you're fainting and being fatigued all day may be signs that your blood sugar levels are too high. In other posts, Cycling Lady has suggested getting a blood glucose meter (inexpensive...

Hi! Welcome to the forum! Found some scientific research that says some grey hair is caused by low ferritin (iron), vitamin B12, folate, and copper. Deficiencies of other vitamins and minerals might play a part, too. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21979243 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3746220/ https://www.ncbi.nlm...
