  1. Rafea, I know how itchy and miserable DH can make you feel. I have DH myself. I know that taking Niacin helped me when I had very bad DH outbreaks. Niacin and Nicotinic Acid (not related to nicotine in tobacco, just a different form of Niacin that does not cause flushing) REALLY do work to alleviate the itchiness and heal your skin! ...
  2. I believe you. You're not alone. I have horrible reactions like that, too. You're in good company here! Glad you found us! Welcome to the forum!
  3. Oooh, sorry about the typo. That should be Niacin, B3. It's always good to go by the names. Once the niacin deficiency was corrected, the rash has gone away, but it was awful, yes. Usually, if you're low in one B vitamin, you'll be low in other ones, too. Best to take a B Complex to cover all the B's. And make sure you consume...
  4. Rafea, Niacin deficiency causes an itchy skin rash. Other vitamin deficiencies (Vitamin B12, thiamine, B6) can affect the nerves that can cause tingling that feels like itching. What does your rash look like? Dry flaky? Wet, weepy?

  7. Charks, I agree with Scott. Switch to a B-Complex supplement. B12 is just one of eight essential B vitamins. They are interdependent on each other to function properly. A B-Complex supplement will have all the B vitamins together in proper balance. Here's an article that explains it... https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/vitamin...
  8. Would a genetic test for the most common Celiac Disease genes be a possibility? If you've got the genes and the villi damage from the biopsy, would that be enough for your doctor to make a definite Celiac diagnosis?
  9. I've found a tallow balm from Vintage Tradition that is exceptional at helping my skin whether it's eczema, psoriasis or a DH flare. It really helped when I was deficient in niacin (vitamin B2) and developed an itchy scaly dermatitis. It got worse when exposed to sunlight. It looked like flat blisters that dried and flattened into scales and itched awfully...
  10. Penguin11, I found a couple of articles for you about mouth sores having a connection to vitamin deficiencies which can occur with Celiac Disease. And... 12. Unintentional weight loss is a classic symptom of Thiamine deficiency. Muscle wasting is a classic symptom of Thiamine deficiency. Your body needs thiamine to turn carbohydrates into energy. Without enough thiamine, your body burns fat and muscle as energy sources because this route doesn't require thiamine. Please read this article....and the...
  13. Yes, gluten or wheat based fillers are often used in medications. Your doctor and your pharmacist need to review your prescriptions and change them to gluten free versions of the same medications.
  14. You can have thiamine deficiency with or without Celiac Disease. Antibiotics for bad skin and antibiotics for SIBO can contribute to Thiamine deficiency. Antibiotics cause thiamine depletion. Sulfa drugs, including sulfa based antibiotics or the sulfa preservatives used in them, contribute to Thiamine deficiency. Your body needs thiamine to process...

  16. Sweet potatoes also contain thiaminase, an enzyme that destroys thiamine ( vitamin B1). Sweet potatoes are high carbohydrate. You need 0.5mg per 1000 calories. You need more to combat the thiaminase and the large amount of carbohydrates. Ppi's will cause malabsorption of thiamine. Antibiotics, like those given for SIBO, can precipitate thiamine...

  19. I wrote this post about vitamin deficiency testing which is not always an accurate measurement of vitamin status. It's been my experience that doctors may routinely test B12 and Vitamin D, but not thiamine or the other B vitamins. 22. I agree with Trents that malabsorption due to villi damaged by Celiac Disease is one reason deficiencies of folate, B12, and iron persist after a gluten free diet. Another possible reason could be that Celiacs don't choose foods high in folate, B12, and iron, foods like liver and green leafy vegetables. Wheat flour is legally required to be enriched...

  25. Tracy, I started with thiamine nitrate, too. I started with one a day, but quickly started taking 100 mg with every meal. My body craved the pills. Not chocolate, thiamine supplements. Weird. After lots of research, I found Drs. Lonsdale and Marrs and ordered allithiamine and lipothiamine. There is an immense difference between the thiamine nitrate...
