  1. Vitamin deficiencies of vitamins D, C, and B12 and Calcium deficiency can all cause night sweats. (Perhaps the methyl form of B12 is needed for those with that MthFr gene.) Also, consistently high blood sugar levels can cause night sweats. As a type two diabetic, I find if my blood sugar levels are too high or not below 120 two hours after eating...
  2. Poster boy, I found this article. I don't know if it's the source of the Patient Celiac's information, but it may have the information you're looking for. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3956379/ There's some evidence that vitamin D deficiency contributes to high blood pressure. https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/health-conditions...
  3. Did your folate (B9) levels get tested? Folate deficiency can cause low white blood cells and anemia. Folate is needed to work with B 12 to make both red and white blood cells. Here's a couple of articles. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Anaemia-vitamin-B12-and-folate-deficiency/Pages/Introduction.aspx https://patient.info/doctor/macrocytosis...
  4. http://hypothyroidmom.com/10-nutrient-deficiencies-every-thyroid-patient-should-have-checked/ Here's an article that explains all the nutrients the thyroid needs to function properly and the consequences to the thyroid if there's a deficiency. Some thyroid problems will correct themselves if existing nutritional deficiencies are corrected. ...
  5. http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamadermatology/fullarticle/423327 Found this article that suggests a link between PD and the Mthfr genes (which are also associated with Celiac Disease). Taking methyl forms of B9 (methylfolate) and B12 (methylcobalamine), and B6 (P5P), makes these vitamins more usable to people with the Mthfr genes. Celiac...
  6. http://www.vitamins-nutrition.org/vitamins/vitamin-b-energy.html Here's an article that explains what each of the eight B vitamins do and why you should take them altogether. The B vitamins need each other to work properly.
  7. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5315033/#!po=62.2807 Here's an article that looks at hair loss due to nutritional deficiencies. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. The B vitamins all work together. You might benefit from taking a B-Complex vitamin like ravenwoodglass suggested. My hair thins out if...
  8. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. You may be deficient in the B complex vitamins and minerals. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11054793 Thiamine (B1) deficiency is associated with anorexia and Niacin (B3) with gastrointestinal problems like bloating. B12 deficiency can cause fatigue. Follow up care should...
  9. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2738337/ This article examines how vitamin deficiencies contribute to one's mental health. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. Even if you don't have horrible gastrointestinal problems, you can still be deficient in vitamins and minerals. Some chemical messengers...
  10. Here's a previous thread discussing hemochromatosis which may be connected to Celiac Disease. In hemochromatosis, the body stores too much iron in the liver and other organs. B12 and folate can become deficient because they are integral in red blood cell production. Symptoms of hemochromatosis don't usually appear until middle age. https...
  11. Hi. I have type two diabetes. Also, I am allergic to anything containing sulfur, like sulfonylureas, antidiabetic drugs containing sulfur. I had dreadful diarrhea on Metformin. So I had to find a way to keep my blood glucose levels within range without drugs. I came across this book by Dr. Sandra Cabot, "Diabetes Type Two - You can reverse it naturally...
  12. Hello. Here's a study that found vitamin B12 and folate supplements can help. Vitamins D, C, and E are supposed to help, too. (I prefer the methyl forms of B12 and Folate.) It's possible the bad soy episode resulted in a period of poor absorption. But even on a gluten free diet, some Celiacs develop vitamin deficiencies. Hope this helps.
  13. So sorry to hear you're having such problems. My heart goes out to you. I remember what it was like trying to sort things out. I had a horrible time before I figured out the connection. I felt like I belonged to the "disease of the month" club. The best advice I can give is to correct nutritional deficiencies. Your car won't run properly if you don't...
  14. Victoria, Are you lactose intolerant? Levothyroxine contains lactose. Celiacs often develop a lactose intolerance because of damage to the tips of villi, the area that produces lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose. Without the enzyme to break it down, lactose is fermented in the intestines, causing diarrhea. The fruit salad may have exacerbated...
  15. Here's one of my favorite articles on gluten's effects on the brain: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4809873/#!po=18.2432 Do start a new topic if you would like to further discuss this. Kitty
  16. I take at least 5000 IUs a day. If I get a cold or glutened, I take double. No, it won't hurt to take that much, but I'm not a doctor, I just researched a great deal. After finding me deficient, my doctor prescribed D2, the synthetic form of vitamin D, but I just didn't like it. So, after some researching, I learned D3, cholecalciferol, is the natural...
  17. Yes, supplementing really helped my body get back to "normal" functioning... I had been terribly nutrient deficient prior to Celiac diagnosis, and the doctors just kept throwing more and more medicine at me to alleviate the deficiency symptoms and cascade of deficiency related health problems, but didn't try to discover the cause or the reason my body was...
  18. Correcting vitamin and mineral deficiencies can be helpful in reducing high cholesterol. Vitamin B12 is needed for the body to utilize the cholesterol. Without sufficient B12 to break it down, the cholesterol accumulates. Pyroxidine, folate and inositol are other B vitamins that help reduce cholesterol. Low vitamin D is associated with high...
  19. Here's an interesting article about vitamin deficiencies and hair loss. https://healdove.com/disease-illness/16-Vitamin-Deficiencies-that-Lead-to-Hair-Loss Ennis is right, you may need to take vitamins and minerals in liquid form for better absorption. And you may need to take more than just the RDA if you're deficient. My hair falls out...
  20. Sorry your dad is so sick. My heart goes out to you both. I believe the problem is malnutrition. Sometimes Celiacs have trouble absorbing all the nutrients that they need from a gluten free diet. As people age, intestinal absorption decreases, too. B12 deficiency will cause low blood pressure and headaches. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to...
  21. "I was experiencing a lot of chest pains and heart palpitations. I read up more on vitamin D3. I found out that those are symptoms of too much D3. I was doing 5,000 IU since my diagnosis back in October 2016. I stopped taking that about two weeks ago and those symptoms cleared up." Were you taking Calcium supplements while taking Vitamin D? Calcium...
  22. Hi. Back pain is often associated with low vitamin D levels. And crampy, tight muscles are associated with deficiencies in calcium and magnesium. Vitamin K and B12 are needed for strong bone building. All of these vitamins and minerals are often deficient in Celiacs because of malabsorption of nutrients. Hope these articles can help. https:...
  23. Has any one has tried the probiotic mentioned in this article? https://www.celiac.com/articles/24595/1/Bifidobacterium-infantis-NLS-Super-Strain-Reduces-a-Defensin-5-in-Active-Celiac-Disease-Patients/Page1.html Natron Life Start is available on Amazon.com. I am dissatisfied with my current probiotic. I suspect it may be one of those that...
  24. I believe Cycling Lady has hit the bull's eye. Hypoparathyroidism can be caused by excessive caffeine consumption. That Zip Fizz contains Guarana. Guarana contains high levels of caffeine. Plus you're drinking coffee again. High doses of caffeine cause the parathyroid to secrete less of its hormone. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC...
