  1. Another PO'ed Celiac, What nutritional deficiencies have you been tested for and when??? What were your levels? Were you taking vitamin supplements when you were tested? Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. You may not have gastrointestinal problems, but if your body is not absorbing the proper nutrients,...
  2. Another scary study about PPI's: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28220520 And our discussion: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/117685-atrophy-associated-with-ppis-nsaids-and-ssris/ What POSSIBLY could be happening: http://blogs.creighton.edu/heaney/2013/11/18/pellagra-and-the-four-ds/ Pellagra is a real thing. ...
  3. Well, there's always this creepy explanation... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/ Glyphosate (Roundup) use and GMO's might have something to do with the increase in Celiac Disease... It's scary out there....
  4. Here's a list of allowed sulfite used in foods. http://www.ehso.com/ehshome/FoodAdd/foodadditivessulf.htm Remember that if sulfurous or sulfuric acid is used in processing, it may not be on the ingredient list. Here's more information. http://extoxnet.orst.edu/faqs/additive/sulf_tbl.htm http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fy731 And, yes...
  5. Vitamin C is supposed to be helpful in relieving constipation. And it helps with the absorption of some minerals. Hope this helps.
  6. Have you tried increasing your vitamin C? It MIGHT be Petechiae. (Not a doctor.) Here's a site that tells about vitamin deficiencies and their effects on the skin. http://www.podiatrytoday.com/when-vitamin-and-nutritional-deficiencies-cause-skin-and-nail-changes
  7. Whitepaw, You MIGHT have had a problem with the beet/sweet potato chips because the beets and sweet potatoes are sprayed with sulfuric acid to stop the beets and sweet potatoes from turning brown or black before cooking. Same with gluten free and regular potato chips, frozen French fries, hash browns, etc. Sulfuric acid is also used to bleach some...
  8. Cycling Lady, I introduced the article by saying "they conclude corn COULD be..." as in "there's a possibility"...not a certainty. "COULD" is in the title of the article. I apologize for that not being more clear. I know you don't feel well. You poor thing. You're worried about your reaction after your dental work. I have very bad...
  9. Ssdave, Here's a study about corn causing reactions. They conclude that corn could be responsible for continuing damage. "Maize Prolamins Could Induce a Gluten-Like Cellular Immune Response in Some Celiac Disease Patients" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3820067/ I had a problem with corn after I went gluten free, so I...
  10. Apologies for not providing an explanation with my previous post. Battery was low. Yes, these studies were done on critically ill patients, and mice and rabbits. But some interesting things were found. Candida lowers gastric acid production, and use of antacids allow colonization. Insulin resistance may facilitate candida infiltration. Overuse...

  13. Wow! Sounds like you are on the ball! Just like Cycling Lady suggested getting antibody testing now and a few months down the road so you can follow improvements, perhaps it would be worthwhile to do the same for deficiencies. Sometimes supplementing one vitamin can mask a deficiency in another vitamin. For example, supplementing B12 may mask...
  14. Oneloved, you said earlier your daughter showed signs of malnutrition. Has anything been done to correct the malnutrition? Has your daughter been tested for vitamin and mineral deficiencies? Is she taking any vitamin supplements now, besides the magnesium? Since dairy has been removed from her diet, is she on calcium supplements? Magnesium...
  15. Did you take any vitamin D supplements when that tested low? Was anything done to correct the other deficiencies you had? Do you take a multivitamin now? I think correcting any vitamin and mineral deficiencies should be the first line of defense. It's the simplest way of ruling out more sinister conditions. Vitamin deficiency diseases can be...
  16. Here's a link that discusses Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (histamine intolerance) and recommended tests. http://www.thepatientceliac.com/tag/mast-cell-activation-syndrome/ This article explains how POTS is related to MCAS. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3545645/#!po=35.0000 "In another clinical situation, Shibao et al....
  17. Did you get any of your vitamin and mineral levels checked for deficiencies? You don't have to be Celiac to develop deficiencies. Peripheral neuropathy may be caused by deficiencies of B12, copper, vitamin E, B6, B1 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4208100/ Not dreaming can be caused by B6 deficiency. https://www.ncbi.nlm...
  18. Hi there! I follow a low histamine diet that Cycling Lady brought to my attention a long time ago. Citrus fruits and their juices are histamine releasing foods. High histamine levels can cause hives just like in an allergic reaction. Here's a helpful site: https://www.histamineintolerance.org.uk/about/the-food-diary/the-food-list/ I...
  19. Yup, short pinkies here. Anyone have a tall forehead? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23325442 Leonardo da Vinci meets celiac disease. "Adults, but not children, with celiac disease show a forehead extension significantly greater than controls, but this test's specificity appears too low to be used in the screening of celiac disease...
  20. Found this article about hypocalcaemia (low calcium levels) causing numbness and tingling in the shoulders. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27753627 Might be worthwhile to get vitamin and mineral levels checked by a physician. Hope this helps.
  21. Hi, again. My dry eyes have improved since I got my vitamin D level up in the 80's. Here's a recent study showing vitamin D deficiency is linked to dry eyes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28487505 And another study found vitamin deficiencies in people on a gluten free diet for many years. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12144...
  22. Hi, Cristiana, Sorry, I don't remember exactly how long I was taking the PPI, omeprazole. I believe it was less than a month. It just made things worse. I wouldn't recommend it. I'm not a doctor and everybody is different, so you'll have to decide what is right for you. What I did do was to go on a low histamine diet. I found these sites very...
  23. Hi. Hope you're feeling better. When I had Gerd, I found it helpful to lay on my left side after eating. Laying on the left side straightens out the esophagus and the stomach, allowing for burps to escape more easily. Eating smaller, more frequent, bland meals helps, too. Icelandgirl's crock pot chicken suggestion is a good one. Throw in...
  24. Allergic to olives?!? Oh, that's too bad. I can't eat olives because they add Sulfites in the brining process, but the oil is okay. I'm leary of anything with processed coconut meat because sulfites are added to keep it white. So I am highly suspicious of coconut oil and coconut milk, too. Thanks for the tip on Natural Vitality. I'll check...
  25. I use extra virgin olive oil. It's got lots of omega 3 fatty acids. Sunflower seed oil has more omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids. The brain likes omega 3's and the body can make omega 6 and 9 out of omega 3 like snapping legos together. I tried almond milk a while back and it didn't agree with me. It was during one of those "find the funky food...
