Please help, mass in the abdomen
knitty kitty replied to Ruby89's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Tanja Kocaleva, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I believe you may have a deficiency in Thiamine Vitamin B 1. I've had Thiamine deficiency after pregnancy and breast feeding. Your symptoms sound very familiar. Thiamine is a vitamin, an essential amino acid that we cannot make in our bodies, and so must get from our diets... -
monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, polyols
knitty kitty replied to Gidget50's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Gidget50, Monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polyols are naturally occurring sugars to be limited on the FODMAP diet. These can cause bloating and gastrointestinal problems. Food manufacturers sometimes adds additional oligosaccharides as preservatives, and texture and flavor enhancers. The easiest way to avoid these would be to avoid... -

Welcome to the forum, @SammyProd, Anemia can affect tTg testing, causing false negatives. Hemolysis and IgA‐antibodies against tissue transglutaminase: When are antibody test results no longer reliable? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6816937/ You would be better off getting genetic testing to see if you have any of the c... -
@jaggirl47, My heart breaks for you. You were right all along. Things will get better now. Look into the Autoimmune Paleo Diet. It really helped me recover. The Paleo Approach by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne is a very helpful book. Dr. Ballantyne, a Celiac herself, designed the diet for herself and her Celiac children. It's been studied and shown...

Those are definitely Celiac genes and with improvement on a gluten free diet, I'd say that's a Celiac diagnosis. It's how I was finally diagnosed. Anemia or Diabetes can cause false negatives on blood tests for Celiac. I have Type Two Diabetes. Correcting nutritional deficiencies was a beneficial step for me. I was low in Vitamin D, and the...

Fever From Gluten?
knitty kitty replied to tannilisa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum, @Monica Guzman! Yes, it is possible to have Crohn's and Celiac Disease together. We have several members who do. I get fevers if I get exposed to gluten. I also get fevers if exposed to dairy. About half of Celiacs react to dairy the same as gluten because dairy molecules resemble gluten molecules. Ask your doctor... -
Welcome to the forum, @Gidget50 It's a good idea to avoid oats for a while after diagnosis. Sensitivity to other foods can develop while your body is still so inflamed. Cutting out dairy is helpful, too. Some Celiacs have a reaction to Casein (a protein in dairy) the same as to gluten. Others develop lactose intolerance. Lactose is the sugar in...

Welcome to the forum, @lydialoo! Ask your doctor to check for vitamin and mineral deficiencies as part of proper follow up care for Celiacs. Ask for a referral to a nutritionist or dietician who can point you towards a nutrient dense diet. Most newly diagnosed Celiacs are deficient in B Complex vitamins, Vitamin D and minerals like iron, zinc...

https://www.thehouseofpillows.eu/polyester-shouldnt-be-in-your-bed-blog/ Wheat starch and vegetable based starches are usually used on natural fibers like cotton because these starches don't stick to polyester. -

Glutened by New Bedding?
knitty kitty replied to StrongerThanCeliac's topic in Super Sensitive People
No, your new polyester sheets have not been doused with gluten. Polyester fabrics are made from petrochemicals and have more petrochemicals used on them to get the correct texture, and prevent wrinkles, and sizing chemicals so the fabric stays in the right shape. Some petrochemicals are used to make plastic disposable food containers like those... -
Terrible Neurological Symptoms
knitty kitty replied to HectorConvector's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Jeanette P, Welcome to the forum! Please look into nutritional deficiencies which commonly occur in Celiac Disease. Your reaction to salt in your diet may signal insufficiencies in potassium, magnesium, and calcium. These minerals along with sodium work together in muscles and nerves. If not balanced, an insufficiency in any of these minerals... -
Iron Supplements
knitty kitty replied to Raquel2021's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
More than iron supplements are needed to correct iron deficiency anemia. Cobalamine B12 is needed, as is Folate B9. Also Riboflavin B2. And Pyridoxine B6. And Niacin B3 and Thiamine B1 are needed to provide energy for the production of red blood cells and iron absorption. Here's some helpful reading... https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses... -
Dole Bananas
knitty kitty replied to StrongerThanCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yet another scientist chiming in. Again. Fructose malabsorption can happen in Celiac Disease and other gastrointestinal disorders. Fructose malabsorption symptoms include gastrointestinal symptoms as well as skin rashes and worsen asthma. Bananas as they ripen contain increasingly more fructose. Since banana bread is made with ripe or... -

Omega Threes help and so does Biotin Vitamin B7. -
Not everyone tTg levels normalize in six months. Some can take two years or longer. It depends on diet and nutritional status. Have you been checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies? Are you supplementing B Complex vitamins while you heal? Are you still getting glutened by eating out or cross contamination?

no diagnosis
knitty kitty replied to Chillycat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Chillycat Are you still consuming gluten? Doctors do blood tests to look for antibodies to gluten (these antibodies also attack our bodies). You have to be eating gluten to produce these antibodies. If you go gluten free prior to the blood tests, there won't be as high a level of antibodies, possibly giving an inconclusive test result (borderline... -
@FayeBr, I take some extra B vitamins when I have back pain or a migraine. A combination of Thiamine B1, Cobalamine B12, Folate B9, and Pyridoxine B6 works as well as other pain relievers. Dental Crown
knitty kitty replied to StrongerThanCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most people have local anesthesia when having a crown done. Anesthesia contains nitrogen compounds. Nitrogen in anesthesia binds permanently and irreversibly with the Cobalt in Cobalamine Vitamin B12, precipitating a B12 deficiency. Without sufficient B12, other vitamins are not able to be utilized, too. Vitamin deficiencies can precipitate overt... -

Celiac Genetic Test Results
knitty kitty replied to Emmy208's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I agree with your doctor. Some HLA DQ alleles are potent enough they can cause Celiac just by themselves. Have you had the itchy rash biopsied? Dermatitis Herpetiformis is the itchy rash that some Celiac people get. Having DH is a diagnosis of CeD, too. Talk to your doctor and nutritionist about supplementing with essential vitamins and...
