Anhidrosis (inability or slow to sweat)
knitty kitty replied to Dtoc's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
B12 deficiency can cause anhidrosis (not sweating) and hypohidrosis (very little sweating). B12 deficiency is common in both Celiac Disease and scleroderma as well as Sjogren's syndrome. Celiac Disease can cause problems with absorption of Vitamin B12 Cobalamine. B12 needs to bind with an intrinsic factor produced in the stomach in order to be... -

Non-stop Itching / Skin Crawling, No Rash
knitty kitty replied to Oneloved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Vicrob, Thiamine deficiency can occur outside of alcoholism. Thiamine deficiency can occur in malabsorption syndromes like Celiac Disease. Elevated liver enzymes are frequently seen in alcoholism because alcohol interferes with the absorption of Thiamine (Vitamin B1) resulting in Thiamine deficiency. Alcoholism damages the small intestine where... -
@Dtoc and all, Just a little side note... That "daily skin dust" on your calves sounds similar to the dust I had on my feet and calves when I had deficiency in Vitamin B 3, Niacin. It starts with"dust', but it can get worse. Rough, scale-y and bumpy skin appears on hands, feet, and neck (called boots and gloves of pellagra). A reddening...

@lyndze, Celiac Disease destroys the lining of the small intestine preventing the absorption of essential vitamins and minerals. You should be checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies as part of proper follow up care for Celiac people. Anemia and Diabetes (both types) can affect blood tests for Celiac Disease, resulting in false negatives...

Extreme fatigue and brain fog
knitty kitty replied to Elbee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could try taking Benfotiamine, a form of Vitamin B 1 that has been shown to promote healing in the intestines. -
@Michael Swanson, Some Celiacs react to the protein casein in dairy products as though it were gluten because the casein molecules resemble gluten molecules. Some Celiacs develop lactose intolerance because they can't produce the enzyme lactase that digests the milk sugar lactose. In either case, intestinal bacteria ferment the undigested...

Terrible Neurological Symptoms
knitty kitty replied to HectorConvector's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, in some cases, people with CSF leaks have the fluid leak out the nose or down the throat. Others have tears in the membrane that is supposed to keep the fluid in. Thiamine contributes to the integrity of the membrane and in regulation of CSF pressure. -

@Joan Bundtzen, Have you done any investigation into Thiamine deficiency as a cause of cerebral spinal fluid leakage? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6182272/ -
There are studies showing high dose Thiamine supplementation can have a detrimental effect on cancer cells, working as well as some anticancer drugs. B Vitamins and Their Role in Immune Regulation and Cancer https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7693142/

@plumbago, I'm thrilled to hear you have tried thiamine! Unfortunately, yes, thiamine testing is a bit inaccurate because thiamine gets turned into enzymes that are used within cells and tissues which is not measurable by blood testing. Even a thiamine rich meal preceding testing can skew blood tests for thiamine. The Erythrocyte Transketalase...

@plumbago, Hope you're feeling better. I had an eye problem several years ago. My left eye had swelling and hemorrhaging. My ophthalmologist sent me to see specialists at the Helen Keller Institute for the Blind Hospital. They couldn't figure out what was going on. I was prescribed a dozen eye drops to take around the clock and some medications...

knitty kitty replied to LP023's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Doctors tell you to continue eating gluten until they can see the damage for themselves in the endoscopy and biopsies. They must all be from Missouri. Some doctors will make a diagnosis of Celiac if the blood tests for antibodies are extremely high and if Celiac genes are present. -

knitty kitty replied to LP023's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
@LP023, It's not the amount of gluten eaten. It's the fact that any gluten will trigger the autoimmune response. The autoimmune response to gluten is what causes the damage. The antibodies against gluten also attack the cells and tissues of the body. The body is damaged in tissues and organs by anti-gluten antibodies. It can take months... -
Busy Mom of 3 - Tired of This Disease
knitty kitty replied to Rachel Docksteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
@Rachel Docksteader, Have your kids been tested for Celiac Disease? Even if they don't have symptoms yet, they could have inherited Celiac genes from you. Cutting the kids' exposure to gluten now may help prevent them from developing Celiac later. There are many members who have a strict gluten free home, but allow gluten eating outside of the... -

knitty kitty replied to LP023's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
While a person is eating gluten regularly, the body reaches a state of constant inflammation. If this person stops eating gluten, the inflammation calms down. The immune system produces fewer and fewer antibodies against gluten and the body. However, if this person starts eating gluten again as during a gluten challenge, the inflammation increases... -
Feels like I can’t eat anything
knitty kitty replied to SargeMaximus's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey, @SargeMaximus! Still struggling, I see. Does the whey protein cause you inflammation? Dairy is very inflammatory for me. It's not just lactose intolerance, it's a reaction to casein, the protein in dairy. Whey is going to have some casein in it, too. Are you taking magnesium? Thiamine needs magnesium to function properly. Are... -
I have cats that eat both grain free and regular cat food. Their grain free foods have been in short supply recently. My cats are on my bed or around me all the time. I wash hands after petting and feeding them, but I have not noticed a problem with their food causing contamination. I keep an extra sheet or thin blanket on top of the bed clothes...

Deficiency in Zinc will cause changes in the sense of smell and taste. Zinc is important to the immune system and in repair of tissues and wounds. Zinc can be depleted rapidly with infections like the common cold and Covid. Zinc supplements would help improve your immune system.

What form of Niacin is in the vitamins you are reacting to? Niacin as nicotinic acid (not the same as nicotine in cigarettes) can cause flushing of the skin.it's a normal reaction especially if you're low in Niacin. The flushing lessens and disappears as your body replenishes it's stores of vitamins. Have you tried taking each vitamin individually...

@Wheatwacked, I agree. Another option is an IV Bar, a spa like place where intravenous vitamins and minerals are available, administered by a health care professional. Usually located in more metropolitan areas. Doctors are given little training in nutrition and vitamins and minerals. They are trained to prescribe pharmaceuticals which cover...

I agree. However the OP is adamant vitamins cause a gluten reaction due to hypersensitivity to less than 20 ppm and refuses to supplement.

They also eat a diet higher in fish and seafood which contains omega threes and thiamine.
