  1. Processed meats and formed meats, like sausage, sandwich meats, chicken nuggets, contain "meat glue" to hold their shape. This "meat glue" is produced by bacteria and called microbial transglutaminase. It's the same structually as tissue transglutaminase that our bodies produce in response to gluten. Microbial transglutaminase provokes the same autoimmune...
  2. How clean is her gluten free diet? Is dairy included? Does she eat out? SIBO? Thiamine deficiency presenting as Gastrointestinal Beriberi?
  3. There's more essential vitamins than B12 and Vitamin D! Thiamine is B1. Thiamine deficiency causes insomnia. Thiamine deficiency causes changes in brain function resulting in anxiety, insomnia, depression and dementia. The brain uses more thiamine when stressed emotionally or physically. Interesting Reading: Subclinical Thiamine deficiency...
  4. @Heatherisle, Has your daughter been checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies? A combination of Thiamine Hydrochloride (or Benfotiamine) and B12 and Pyridoxine B6 relieves pain as well as over-the-counter pain relievers. What sort of food does she eat on the GFD? Many gluten free processed foods?
  5. Your doctor is incorrect! Your positive DQB1*02 is all you need to develop Celiac disease. Just having one copy is sufficient to develop Celiac. Reference: Carrier frequency of HLA-DQB1*02 allele in patients affected with celiac disease: A systematic review assessing the potential rationale of a targeted allelic genotyping as a first-line...
  6. I take Niacin, bilberry, Omega threes, zinc, selenium, and Vitamins C and A for eye health, skin health and digestive tract health. The skin, digestive system and eyes are all derived from basically the same sort of cells. Niacin is extremely important to keeping these tissues healthy. Niacin has be shown to prevent cataracts and improve eye...
  7. @Colleen H, How are you doing? I hope you're improving. Yes, I react to gluten free products with corn in them. Segments of the protein in corn are the same as protein segments in gluten. So I react as though I've eaten gluten if I eat anything with corn. I take a combination of Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6 and Cobalamine B12 together. ...
  8. I've heard RO water is bad, too. Distilled water has all the minerals distilled out of it, so it will pull minerals out of your bones, too. I only use distilled water to fill up my clothes iron so it won't get mineral deposits inside and quit working. I drink mineral or spring water.
  9. Hello, @Aretaeus Cappadocia, My favorite source of B12 is liver. 😺 I react to nutritional yeast the same way as if I were glutened. Casein, a protein in dairy, and nutritional yeast have protein segments that match certain antigenic protein segments in gluten. The proteins in rice, corn (maize), and chicken meat have them as well. Some pe...
  10. Welcome, While picking through chickpeas and lentils I have found little pebbles and on occasion, a kernel or two of wheat. Farm equipment and transport trucks are used to harvest different crops. It would be really expensive to have separate trucks and packaging lines for each crop. I have found sorting or picking through the peas or lentils...
  11. Yes, that's the one I was referring to! Good for you, being proactive!
  12. @Known1, I understand you have had your B12, Folate B 9, and Vitamin D level checked. However there are other B vitamins that are not routinely checked because blood tests for other B vitamins are terribly unreliable, expensive, or cumbersome to use frequently. Results can take a long time to get back, delaying proper treatment and risking permanent...
  13. @Known1, I'm sure you can find a shelter or community service group that would appreciate your lotion donation. I've replied to the topic of your bloodwork as it relates to vitamins in your "Introduce Yourself" post so as not to high jack this thread. Thanks
  14. @Jmartes71, Talk to your doctor and dietician about checking for nutritional deficiencies and supplementing with essential vitamins, minerals and Omega threes. Vitamins like Niacin B3, Thiamine B 1, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Omega three fats are important to maintaining the protective layer of skin. Try incorporating Tallow balm (I use Ancient...
  15. Good morning, @Known1, When new to Celiac disease, It's extremely easy to blame all reactions on gluten contamination in products. Be aware that Celiac disease causes a state of hyper vigilance of our immune system. Our over stimulated immune system can react to chemicals in products and foods that normally are tolerable. Bananas contain...
  16. @catnapt, You would do well to get a DNA test done. You could be seronegative Celiac.
  17. Yes, that's the same dismissive medical professional attitude I encountered. Too bad.
  18. @catnapt, I suspect you may have developed a subclinical thiamine deficiency while on your SSRI and the handful of medications you mentioned years ago. Subclinical thiamine deficiency can linger for years. In thiamine deficiency, an influx of simple carbohydrates, as is found in gluten containing products, will prompt a sudden decrease in thiamine...
  19. @catnapt, You can still have a DNA test to look for Celiac genes. If you don't have any genes that are known to be related to Celiac then they need to look for a different reason you're sick. You can have the genes for Celiac without the genes being activated. There needs to be a stressor that turns them on for active Celiac Disease. I...
  20. Hello, @Jmartes71, Elevated ketones are found in Thiamine B 1 deficiency. Are you eating a low carbohydrate diet? I had horrible skin problems. I had Dermatitis Herpetiformis which is found with Celiac Disease. I also had Niacin B 3 deficiency which causes Pellagra. Pellagra means "toad skin" in Latin. Have you been checked for nutritional...
  21. @catnapt, You're right. Adding beans to your diet is a very healthy way to eat. Legumes have about half the amount of phyates as is found in wheat germ. The lectins in legumes are inactivated by soaking and cooking. Phytates in wheat germ are heat resistant, whilst lectins in wheat germ are more heat resistant than lectins in legumes. You said...
  22. My health declined when I was taking an SSRI. I learned that certain drugs can cause Thiamine deficiency. SSRI's are one of those drugs. Depression is a symptom of Thiamine deficiency. It's also a symptom of Vitamin D deficiency. I was eating the Standard American Diet at the time, which is a diet that causes High Calorie Malnutrition. Consuming...
  23. Hi, @Known1, Did they check for anemia? Anemia can make you feel frozen on a summer's day. Anemia in men is often overlooked. Iron can be low with Celiac. How was your B12 level? I loved touring I-90 and I-80. Beautiful country.
  24. Hi, @Known1, welcome to the tribe! I highly recommend bumping up your dose of Vitamin D. I took small doses throughout the day to give my body more opportunity to absorb it. I ate those like m&ms. I was taking above 10,000 IU a day. My Vitamin D level was in the single digits though. Correcting deficiencies as quickly as possible is really beneficial...
