Try to take at least 100% of the RDA. My magnesium supplement says two tablets is 40% of the RDA, so I take five tablets... two pills after two meals and one pill after third meal or snack. I take thiamine at the beginning of meals and the magnesium at the end of meals. Be aware that too much magnesium may have a laxative effect. (Think Milk of...

My house has a metal roof installed over a regular roof. Seems the metal roof is leaking down the midline ridge and the underneath roof is leaking, especially around the chimney. I've had five people out to "repair" various places over the past several years, but it's still leaking. What should I do??? Should the metal roof come...

Just take it and see if it helps. Remember thiamine needs magnesium to function properly, so get a magnesium citrate or magnesium glycine supplement, too. With your history of using alcohol...is your doctor aware of your previous alcohol use? "Gastrointestinal Beriberi and Wernicke's Encephalopathy Triggered by One Session of Heavy Drinking...

Alcoholism causes malabsorption of vitamins. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of vitamins. Doctors are trained to think in little boxes. I had five doctors asked me if I drank. When I insisted that I didn't, they turned on their heel and walked away. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... The World Health Organization says...

Gluten Ataxia?
knitty kitty replied to Krystal K.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, vestibular systems seem to be affected by gluten. Insufficiencies in Vitamin D, Niacin, B12 and Thiamine HCl can all produce imbalances. -
A B Complex supplement containing all eight B vitamins is a good idea. Because if you're low in one B vitamin, you're probably low across the board. The eight B vitamins all work together. They are water soluble and are nontoxic. Any excess is excreted in urine. A Magnesium citrate or magnesium glycine supplement should be added, too, because thiamine...

No! Not Thiamine Mononitrate! Thiamine Mononitrate is the least bioavailable form of thiamine. You want Thiamine Hydrochloride. like this for example... https://www.nowfoods.com/products/supplements/vitamin-b-1-100-mg-tablets Or Benfotiamine.... https://www.lifeextension.com/search#q=benfotiamine&t=coveo4A2453FD Or Allithiamine...

@Walter123, You should be off all vitamin/mineral supplements six to eight weeks prior to checking for vitamin levels by blood tests, otherwise the test merely measures how much of that vitamin/mineral you've consumed in the previous twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Thiamine deficiency can affect the thyroid causing fluctuations in thyroid hormone...

@MerryA, Welcome to the forum! So sorry to hear about your husband. I had similar symptoms, high blood pressure and was put on meds, IBS symptoms, Gerd/reflux, shortness of breath, tachycardia, anxiety and panic attacks. My symptoms resolved when I took high dose Thiamine Vitamin B1. The Gluten Free diet can be deficient in certain...

Gluten Ataxia?
knitty kitty replied to Krystal K.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
An endoscopy WITHOUT consuming gluten for 6-8 weeks before would give the doctors a better idea of the damage already done, a baseline by which future endoscopies could be measured. But just for diagnostic purposes, with blood tests results so high, that seems unnecessary. -
Sores in the mouth occur in Vitamin C deficiency and B12 deficiency.

Blood Testing Question
knitty kitty replied to MKC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@MKC, Welcome to the forum! How long have you been including gluten in your diet after the one month off? Some doctors will diagnose Celiac Disease based on positive blood tests and positive genetic testing. Be sure your doctor includes the whole Celiac panel when testing for antibodies. https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening... -
@Mckenzie111, Welcome to the forum! My DH will flare if I eat foods high in iodine like dairy, crustaceans and other seafood including nori seaweed. My worst flare was after being given iodide based contrast dye for x-rays at hospital. Here's an interesting article.... Dermatitis herpetiformis resistant to dapsone due to dietary iodide...

@Anne Jory, A stressor, like receiving the Covid vaccines, causes your immune system to gear up and make anti-Covid antibodies. This immune system response uses up lots of Thiamine Vitamin B1 and can tip the balance into Thiamine deficiency. Symptoms of Thiamine deficiency include unintentional weight loss, diarrhea, and thyroid problems. Without...

getting worse waiting for endoscopy
knitty kitty replied to cteo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with @trents that doctors are pretty clueless about testing protocols. It is the reason the average time for a diagnosis is ten years during which time a cascade of health issues can occur, further clouding the real source of the problem while doctors merely prescribe pharmaceuticals to alleviate the symptoms. And, no, severity of symptoms...
