Could Less Cigarette Smoking Mean More Celiac Disease?
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Tobacco is a nightshade that contains antihistamines. So Celiac smokers may be self medicating with natural antihistamines which would lower effects of the immune system's response to gluten.- 6 comments

Roofing Advice Needed!
knitty kitty replied to knitty kitty's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What a wonderful idea! Just be done with both of them! I live in the South, so metal roofs are fairly common on residential property. I think a metal roof was a bad decision for this house. It's a ranch style with the length of it facing the direction the wind comes from, like a long airplane wing.... After storms and high wind, I frequently... -
Why is Gluten Sensitivity Trivialized?
knitty kitty commented on Dr. Ron Hoggan, Ed.D.'s article in Autumn 2004 Issue
Bunions are common in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a hypermobility syndrome affecting the joints and connective tissues. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is frequently seen in conjunction with Celiac Disease. Being diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis six years ago doesn't rule out the fact that you may have had undiagnosed Celiac Disease then, too, causing malabsorption. We're you checked for iodine deficiency? Since you don't seem to consume many iodine containing foods, could you simply have iodine deficiency? Did your doctor do a iodine loading test? Levothyroxine is a synthetic hormone given to stimulate the thyroid. In iodine deficiency, the thyroid can't produce normal thyroid hormones, resulting in hypothyroidism... -
Possible Celiac?
knitty kitty replied to VictoriaSmith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have Vanilla Bean, Serene Spirit, Campfire Glow, and Rugged Cliff. Vintage Traditions has small sample jars available. I often order those if I'm uncertain about a scent, but I've enjoyed all the ones I've tried so far. Only a small dab is necessary. A little goes a long way. And the tallow balm is absorbed by the skin very quickly. I... -

You may want to rethink the potatoes. Potatoes contain glycoalkaloids that promote leaky gut syndrome. Potato glycoalkaloids adversely affect intestinal permeability and aggravate inflammatory bowel disease https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12479649/

@MerryA, Losartan/HCTZ 100/25mg Tablets HCTZ is hydrochlorothiazide. It is a diuretic. Diuretics can cause Thiamine deficiency. Thiamine is flushed out of the body with urine. I was prescribed HCTZ and my doctors did not recognize the ensuing thiamine deficiency symptoms. I knew what was happening because I had learned about Thiamine deficiency...

Try to take at least 100% of the RDA. My magnesium supplement says two tablets is 40% of the RDA, so I take five tablets... two pills after two meals and one pill after third meal or snack. I take thiamine at the beginning of meals and the magnesium at the end of meals. Be aware that too much magnesium may have a laxative effect. (Think Milk of...

My house has a metal roof installed over a regular roof. Seems the metal roof is leaking down the midline ridge and the underneath roof is leaking, especially around the chimney. I've had five people out to "repair" various places over the past several years, but it's still leaking. What should I do??? Should the metal roof come...

Just take it and see if it helps. Remember thiamine needs magnesium to function properly, so get a magnesium citrate or magnesium glycine supplement, too. Alcoholism causes malabsorption of vitamins. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of vitamins. Doctors are trained to think in little boxes. I had five doctors asked me if I drank. When I insisted that I didn't, they turned on their heel and walked away. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... The World Health Organization says...

Gluten Ataxia?
knitty kitty replied to Krystal K.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, vestibular systems seem to be affected by gluten. Insufficiencies in Vitamin D, Niacin, B12 and Thiamine HCl can all produce imbalances. -
A B Complex supplement containing all eight B vitamins is a good idea. Because if you're low in one B vitamin, you're probably low across the board. The eight B vitamins all work together. They are water soluble and are nontoxic. Any excess is excreted in urine. A Magnesium citrate or magnesium glycine supplement should be added, too, because thiamine...
