Mast Cell degranulation has been connected to thiamine deficiency! A scientific study.... "Increased mast cell degranulation within thalamus in early pre-lesion stages of an experimental model of Wernicke's encephalopathy" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10411347/ And an article by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale, leader in thiamine deficiency studies...

knitty kitty replied to Malc1155's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Malc1155, Welcome to the forum! I've had that yucky mucus, too, usually after eating a fatty meal. I agree with @GodsGal. Keeping a food/mood/poo'd dairy will help pinpoint problematic foods. The gallbladder secretes bile to help digest fats. Sometimes the gallbladder doesn't secrete enough bile. The gallbladder is located in the upper... -

What type of gluten free diet is your daughter consuming? I had excellent results on the AutoImmune Protocol diet. It is basically a meat and veggies diet. It excludes legumes (beans), nuts and seeds, and grains, even gluten free "safe" grains, and nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplants), dairy and eggs. "AIP (Autoimmune Protocol... -

Have you read about the side effects of dicyclomine? I did not like the side effects. I felt like a zombie. Gabapentin might be a better choice. Keep in mind that both Vitamin D and B12 can be stored in the liver for long periods of time. By the time these two vitamins show as deficient, other deficiencies may exist as well. It's rare to have a deficiency in just one or two vitamins. The eight B vitamins all work together. They are water soluble. B12 is the only one that can be stored for...

I begged my doctor to test for Vitamin D deficiency. He only agreed after ascertaining that my insurance would cover the cost. My Vitamin D level turned out to be so low it surprised my doctor. I remember him saying "Dead people had higher Vitamin D!" He promptly prescribed synthetic Vitamin D2 which didn't work as well as natural D3. When I begged...

I found some research that explains that the thiamine transporter gene is turned off during thiamine deficiency and that genes for autoimmune diseases on the same chromosome begin to turn on. Autoimmune diseases such as Celiac, MS, Crohn's, Diabetes (Type I and II).... It's in the Thiamine, Thiamine, Thiamine post.... What I found most disturbing...

@MiriCatLady, Yes, I think they are linked. Emotional stress can cause a higher demand for energy. The brain uses as much energy thinking as doing physical labor. Without enough thiamine (Vitamin B1) to provide that energy derived from our food, depression, anxiety and PTSD and a host of autoimmune diseases can occur. I suggest you start...

Help! Could this be DH on the scalp?
knitty kitty replied to FitnessMom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, my DH got worse with exposure to the sun. DH is pressure sensitive. Have you tried sleeping on the other side of your head? I would get DH blisters on the palms of my hands after pushing the grocery carriage through the store. And I would get DH blisters under any elastic in my clothing (bra, undies, waistbands, etc.). Also I had... -
@ChessFox, I am so happy that you are seeing benefits from thiamine! Thank you for sharing your results with us on the forum! You may need to add a Vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C is a histamine destroyer. I take Nature's Way brand Sambucus Elderberry Gummies (has flavonoids that help Vitamin C) and a Vitamin C supplement (500mg). Another...

knitty kitty replied to ironictruth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to our forum! This thread is rather old. The original posters might not answer. I'm assuming you've been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Please remember that Celiac Disease causes malabsorption because of the damage to the villi in the small intestine. The damaged villi can't absorb all the vitamins and minerals that you need. This can... -

@Djd27, Has your B12 level been checked recently? How about your Vitamin D level? Low B12 and low Vitamin D can affect your thyroid. @Jackie Garrett, You might find some benefit if you read up on Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Our food contains histamine. Our bodies can make histamines. And the bacteria in our guts can make histamines! Vitamin C, Thiamine (B1) and Pyridoxine (B6) can help our bodies get rid of excessive histamine. Vitamin deficiencies can be present whether...

@ChessFox, B12 is a special B vitamin. All the B vitamins are water soluble, but B12 can be stored in the liver for long periods of time. The other B vitamins are not stored this way. You may have replenished the store of B12 in your liver since you've been taking it several months now. Higher doses which caused your itchy skin and headaches...

Thank you, @ChessFox. Much as I would like to say that all the damage from thiamine deficiency is reversible, I can't. Thiamine deficiency symptoms often aren't recognised as such until the symptoms get severe and the risk of permanent damage is at its highest. In my case, I have acalculia (I can't do math) and my memory is fuzzy about events...

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) could be causing some of your symptoms. SIBO can occur with or without Celiac Disease. Getting blood tests for Celiac Disease antibodies while still consuming gluten products would be the way to go. A DNA test for the most common genes for Celiac Disease is also an option. Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity...

Thanks for calling on me. Apologies for not being able to answer sooner. I found some articles for all to read. Scott is correct in that Vitamin C helps with iron absorption. Other vitamins that will help treat anemia include Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12 and Folate (Vitamin B9), Vitamin B6, Vitamin A and Vitamin E. Minerals that help...

@LeslieNYC, I get altered body odor when I get glutened, too. Frequently, the odor is caused by bacteria in the intestines that produce lots of sulfur gas when "fed" carbohydrates like gluten and veggies that contain lots of sulfur (broccoli, asparagus, cabbage, onion, garlic, etc.) and proteins high in sulfur like fish and eggs. Small Intestinal...
