Fatigue, Motivation and Help
knitty kitty replied to JoelW1lls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There should not be any problems taking magnesium, B6, and tryptophan with that. I take passion flower with my magnesium, B6 and tryptophan sometimes and have had no problems. You might want to try the combinations when you have the next day off, just to see how these affect you. -
B12 is capable of being stored in the liver for months to years. When a person is deficient in B12, they are restoring the B12 in the liver as well as what is needed for every day. Like filling up that coffee cup @Wheatwacked said. Testing for vitamin B12 level should be done two to three weeks after stopping supplementation, otherwise B12 levels will...

@JoelW1lls, What kind of herbal sleeping tablets are you taking? What are the ingredients? -
Thiamine deficiency is prevalent in diabetics. Depending on which study read, 75 to 96% of diabetics are thiamine deficient. Sweet potatoes contain an enzyme called thiaminase that destroys thiamine. Thiamine is needed to turn carbohydrates, fats, and protein into energy the body needs to function. Wheat products are required by law to...

Not sure what to think
knitty kitty replied to AaronM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@AaronM Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition (vitamin and mineral deficiencies). Checking for nutritional deficiencies is part of proper follow up care for people with Celiac Disease. Having NIGHT SWEATS is a symptom of Vitamin D Deficiency. Vitamin D is a fat based vitamin found in oily fish (like salmon and sardines... -
Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother
knitty kitty replied to RebeccaLMoyer's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The fat based vitamins are Vitamins A, D, E and K. Allithiamine and Benfotiamine are fat-soluble. They mix in with fats like the lipids that make up the cell membrane and can easily pass through. The fat based vitamins can be dangerous because they can be stored in the body for long periods of time and take a long time to clear. But high... -
Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother
knitty kitty replied to RebeccaLMoyer's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Allithiamine and Benfotiamine are both fat soluble. Being fat soluble allows them to get into the cells easily. Thiamine is cleared from the body in about two and a half to three hours. Excess or unused thiamine is cleared and excreted in urine. Spread thiamine supplementation throughout the day, with meals. There's no upper safety limit to... -
Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother
knitty kitty replied to RebeccaLMoyer's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I take Allithiamine and Benfotiamine. I get mine on line. Allithiamine has been shown to cross the blood brain barrier easily. Benfotiamine has been shown to help with the intestinal damage and diabetes. A positive for DH is a positive for Celiac Disease. -
Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother

I have awful reactions to sulfates, too. I can understand how that would be a stressor for the body, but can't say with certainty that was the catalyst. There's so many contributing factors. (I take magnesium citrate orally. Thiamine needs magnesium to help it work properly.) Keep us posted on your progress! -
@Artil, I suggest you look into Gastrointestinal Beriberi which is caused by a deficiency in Thiamine (Vitamin B1). "Elevated Lactate Secondary to Gastrointestinal Beriberi" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4699997/ Thiamine is required to convert carbohydrates into energy. When thiamine is low, our bodies take a short cut...

Positive DH Biopsy-Desperate New Mother
knitty kitty replied to RebeccaLMoyer's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
@RebeccaLMoyer and all, DH outbreaks can occur or worsen when we are exposed to iodine either in foods or medications. Medications containing iodine I've reacted to include contrast dye for x rays and betadine. Medications containing sulfites exacerbated my DH. High iodine foods include seafood like fish and shellfish (crustaceans), seaweed (nori... -
I'm glad to hear you're into reading! Here's an article that will help... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7428453/ "Be well: A potential role for vitamin B in COVID-19" Pericarditis is a symptom of low thiamine. Doctors are treating Covid with high dose Thiamine, vitamin C, zinc and Vitamin D.

Herbs and food sensitivities?
knitty kitty replied to TrailWalker's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
@TrailWalker, Sounds like you would be better off if you were checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition. Even the gluten free diet can be low in some nutrients. Not having enough of certain vitamins can explain some of your symptoms. I had sulfur sensitivity, too. I couldn... -
Fatigue, Motivation and Help
knitty kitty replied to JoelW1lls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Beverage is correct! Certain B vitamins can help with sleep. Other B vitamins can help with the fatigue. I take 1000 mg of Tryptophan and 50 mg of B6 (pyridoxine) an hour or so before bedtime to help me sleep. I also take a magnesium citrate supplement. Magnesium helps our muscles relax. Take the magnesium last. Magnesium can coat the intestines... -
Found an article about low thiamine (Vitamin B1) level and oxalates. https://www.hormonesmatter.com/marginally-insufficient-thiamine-intake-oxalates/ And another on Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) can prevent kidney stones. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10203369/ A good B Complex vitamin supplement should be a part of your diet.

These are the kinds of thiamine I take. They are gluten free. https://www.lifeextension.com/vitamins-supplements/item00925/mega-benfotiamine?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-qqQ2YTr8QIVxPrICh2yHQOMEAAYASAAEgKlEvD_BwE And... https://www.pureformulas.com/allithiamine-fat-soluble-b1ttfd-50-mg-capsule-250-capsules-by-ecological-formulas.html -
@Keshavdas, Gluten containing products are required by law to be enriched with vitamins and minerals to replace those lost in processing. Gluten free facsimile foods are not required to be enriched. We need thiamine Vitamin B1 to turn carbohydrates into energy for our bodies to work. Meat and green leafy vegetables contain thiamine. ...

Dysphagia is the term for swallowing problems. It can be caused by Thiamine deficiency. Thiamine is Vitamin B1. Celiac Disease is a disease that causes malabsorption of vitamins and minerals. knitty kitty replied to Jenny melton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jenny, Your daughter's symptoms sound like mine when I was experiencing Gastrointestinal Beriberi. Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a result of a deficiency of thiamine (Vitamin B1). Thiamine is required to provide energy to the body. Thiamine is water soluble. Thiamine can only be stored for a few weeks. Thiamine deficiency can occur in as little... -
Scott, The initial low vitamin state may come about because of several factors. High calorie malnutrition: A diet high in carbohydrates and not enough nutrients from other dietary sources can lead to vitamin insufficiencies. The Standard American Diet is high in carbohydrates and fats, both of which require thiamine to change them into energy...
