  1. Essential care junior's first ingredient is corn syrup solids. Corn and corn derivatives can be irritating to some Celiacs. In an earlier post, you mentioned having more neurological problems. You need to be checked for vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin deficiencies can cause many of the symptoms you relate. You have had nausea and diarrhea for many...
  2. @BrianG, What are you eating? Are you filling up on gluten free facsimile foods? Are you following any specific diet (fodmaps, AIP)? Are you gaining weight from putting on muscle or are you putting on fatty pounds in the abdominal region? Can you give us a typical day's intake?
  3. @J Morgan, Give another thought to that "nutritional" shake. It's made with agave. Agave has LOTS of fructose. Lots of fructose can cause symptoms you've described. Read this.. . https://theceliacmd.com/what-is-fructose-malabsorption-is-it-the-same-as-fructose-intolerance/ And.... https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/agave-nectar-is...
  4. Hey, Aaron, Every one is different and has different tolerance levels. You can try keeping coffee on the menu. Keep in mind a few things. Coffee is a histamine releaser. Caffeine is a stimulant, it stimulates your brain, but also stimulates your intestines to move food through faster. Coffee is a diuretic. I switched to oolong tea.
  5. Sarah, welcome to the forum! I agree with @trents and @GFinDC, the time to do Celiac panel blood tests is now before his antibodies decline. The symptoms you listed, particularly 4 and 6 through 15 inclusive, are symptoms of vitamin deficiencies, specifically Vitamin B1 Thiamine. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition...
  6. @ChessFox, To answer your question "Did anyone notice perhaps milder mental distress compared to before after months or years of living gluten-free?" Many Celiacs report having more intense symptoms after a glutening than they had previously. This happens when a doctor orders a patient who has already gone gluten free to do a gluten challenge...

"The Role of Thiamine in Cancer: Possible Genetic and Cellular Signaling Mechanisms" https://cgp.iiarjournals.org/content/10/4/169 "A significant association has been demonstrated between cancer and low levels of thiamine in the serum." "A very high dose of thiamine produces a growth-inhibitory effect in cancer."
  8. The medications used in numbing shots at the dentist can cause a depletion in thiamine. The nerves in the head and neck use lots of thiamine. Have you tried taking more thiamine? Also Vitamin C can help with gum sensitivity.
  9. Thiamine can help lower creatinine and albumin levels. Thiamine is Vitamin B1. Malabsorption of the water soluble B vitamins is common in the newly diagnosed. The water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C need to be replenished every day. Bloated belly is a symptom of Thiamine and Niacin (Vitamin B3) deficiencies. Picky eating can be a symptom of...
  10. Thiamine, Vitamin B1, helps keep the Shingles virus in check. So does L- Lysine. The Chicken Pox virus is a Herpetic Virus which remains in your nerves and can flare into shingles later. The Cold Sore Virus is another Hetpetic virus. I've got both and experience flares if glutenized. I stay on Thiamine (in the form Allithiamine) and Amino Acid...
  11. @Aaron275, Those foods on your list are high histamine foods. Look into a low histamine Paleo diet. Skip the dairy and facsimile dairy foods for now. Remove nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplants). Don't eat processed foods or restaurant foods. Eat stuff made from natural ingredients like meat and veggies. The supplements...
  12. Welcome, @Aaron275, Tell us what foods you're having reactions to and what supplements and stuff did your doctor give you. Thanks
  13. Thiamine deficiency can make it hard to talk. Thiamine helps the Vagus nerve and other nerves to relay messages including messages to the muscles involved in speech. Thiamine deficiency has been linked to stuttering, voice hoarseness, and some types of mutism. Celiac Disease damages the small intestine where thiamine and other B vitamins and minerals...
  14. I like the book The Paleo Approach by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne (a Celiac herself). She includes information on the Autoimmune Paleo Diet and nutritional aspects of Celiac Disease. Thiamine is sold over the counter, no prescription needed, as a vitamin supplement. I get mine on Amazon. Allithiamine and Benfotiamine are the kinds of thiamine I take. Thiamine...
  15. @charliethecowboy, Welcome to the forum! You're in good company. I've been through it, too. Turns out I had High Calorie Malnutrition. I was eating too many carbohydrates, but not getting enough vitamins (Thiamine specifically) to process them. Gluten containing products are required to be enriched with vitamins and minerals to replace...
  16. Thiamine insufficiency affects the Vagus nerve. The Vagus nerve controls your throat and digestive tract. Thiamine is needed for muscle contractions and nerve transmission. Insufficient thiamine can affect the sphincter muscles not contracting properly resulting in acid reflux and hiatal hernia. PPI's can affect thiamine absorption in the...
  17. Niacin, the kind that flushes, is good for helping DH flares go down. (250 mg twice a day). Avoiding foods high in iodine (shellfish, seaweed, iodized salt and Dairy) reduces flares.
  18. Accept the two positive test results. The small intestine is as large as a tennis court if laid out flat. Much of the damage can be microscopic and patchy. You've got extra-intestinal symptoms (symptoms outside of the GI tract), your nerve and muscle pain, which can be indicative of an autoimmune response. Insufficiencies in some B vitamins (Thiamine...
  19. @thorn, The white rice and rice cakes, gluten free corn chips and crisp bread are not allowed on the Autoimmune Paleo Diet. These are empty carbohydrates. Gluten free facsimile foods are not required to be enriched with vitamins and minerals. Gluten containing products are required by law to be enriched with vitamins and minerals to replace those...
  20. Welcome back, @thorn, Can you tell us what medications you're on? Also tell us what you include in your diet.

And.... "Combined use of SSRIs and NSAIDs increases the risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc...
  22. You should be off supplements for six weeks before blood tests, otherwise you're just measuring the supplements you've taken. Probiotics can encourage bacteria to grow in the small intestine resulting in SIBO which can explain your ongoing symptoms. Have you tried the Autoimmune Paleo diet?
