  1. Cumulative throughout the day, not over a long period of time. Sorry for the confusion.
  2. Everything I have read is that getting to the point of triggering an autoimmune response IS CUMULATIVE. So 1 bit here, 1 there, 1 bit after, it adds up and then bam you have a reaction. And some may react on less than others. Moderators or those more experienced, please chime in. Oh heck, I just did an internet search, and yes, it is cumulative. ...
  3. My blood results were very high, so I went with that, positive on the DNA test, and the results from a gluten free diet to get an official medical diagnosis. I agree with the others, though that in your case, the endoscopy is probably needed, although can get false negatives on it, as it's been talked about many times in here. After that, you might end...
  4. As my doctor said when I was diagnosed ... anything you touch can end up in your mouth ... your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all drain down to your stomach ! Don't forget it.
  5. Formulas change all the time. The problem with it not being labeled gluten-free is that if one of the ingredients (like the tocopherol) which might be currently from a non-gluten source, can be changed to be from a gluten source, and so you would have to call then every time you bought a new bottle.
  6. I recommend Andalou skin products, which are marked "gluten verified." I've never had any problems. If you sign up for their newsletter, they send out discounts for ordering on their internet site.
  7. I react to oats the same as wheat, rye, and barley. The protein strand in oats is apparently the next closest to the other 3.
  8. I'm so sorry it's so hard. I felt like I was hit by a truck, a really big truck, when I first went gluten free. Like the worst flu on the planet. Before I went gluten free, I had a lot of weight gain but it was all inflammation and I lost 30 lbs in a few weeks, but it was all water. I was very weak at the end of it, but on the road to recovery. Drink lots...
  9. I don't eat anything unless it's whole food or labeled gluten free, certified gluten free is best. I do get my nuts from Nuts.com, they have a gluten free section, labeled gluten free but not certified. They ship super fast and everything is fresher than I've ever tasted nuts before, except those I picked and shelled myself. You can sign up for their newsletter...
  10. You are a big sweetie to be so concerned and willing to try. Ennis listed a lot of things that are very important. Any herbs and spices need to be labeled gluten free, those have been shown to be contaminated otherwise. It's not only the food and ingredients, it's the world that the food was prepared in. Don't serve any other gluten foods...
  11. Hi, decclj. For me, I did not want to go with the endoscopy because I just did not want to do the prep and I hate getting knocked out. In the US, my doctor was able to give me an official diagnosis of Celiac's Disease based on these 3 factors: 1) positive blood screening test 2) celiac gene in DNA test and 3) response to the gluten free diet (felt better...
  12. Be careful with budesonide. I was on it and it made my blood pressure go up to very dangerous levels.
  13. Maeve...you astonish me.
  14. I apologize. I cannot find the article. Searching past articles on this site is not as easy as I thought. I am 99% sure it was in the newsletter, about a year or so ago. I just remember I was totally shocked about the risk of getting glutened regularly. It talked about getting gluten once a month regularly...NOT for celiac's that adhere to a gluten free...
  15. Hi. It was in an article in the celiac.com newsletter. I am on my mobile now. I will try to look for it later when I get home.
  16. Just so you know, there is someone else here (me) who does not get symptoms from ingesting gluten one time here and there. I have done it NOT intentionally, but it did happen because I reached for the wrong package of something. No symptoms. I have Celiac's. If I eat gluten for a whole month, I do not get intestinal symptoms like you would think, but...
  17. How did you get the test done? Through your doctor? On your own through an internet site? I went with a company in Canada and it took almost a month.
  18. Yes I understand. I went through all that also. It's a good idea, but my experience was that the only thing the pulmonologist prescribed did not help me and only hurt me, as albuterol and all the steroids do to anybody, but it's all these doctors know how to prescribe. And the root cause was never addressed after seeing this specialist for over a...
  19. Yes, Ronnie D, I understand. I read it that way. I'm just saying that Joepilk's symptoms could be root cause from other things that traditional doctors do not even investigate. I'm just giving example of my experience this past year and more, so that he has an example of how it can be caused from something else and only treating the symptoms does not do...
  20. Yes, albuterol is what I was prescribed for the asthma part of my symptoms, which was aggrevated by exertion. Albuterol is an easy thing to take, but also has side effects that you should not just think are not a big deal...besides the systemic side effects of inhaling epinephrine, and something that the way it works is to shut down your immune system...
  21. Another thing to consider ... there is information out there that symptoms that the root cause for some of symptoms like a cold, sore throat (typically a dry cough), or allergies be related to gastric issues, acid reflux, GERD, or silent reflux. I had asthma/wheezing and stuffed nose, loss of sense of smell, and dry throat, voice that would get creaky...
  22. I recommend never eating anything processed unless it is marked Gluten Free at a minimum, and Certified Gluten Free is much much better. I haven't had problems since I was more strict in what I buy, my last blood test was almost 0 in gluten antibodies. I was surprised to figure out that I was having problems with pickles and relishes, No obvious...
  23. Mine were super high like that and I decided to go without the biopsy, as it does have its risks and can miss the damage entirely and leaves you in limbo if negative. I also got the DNA test (for me mentally to commit to being gluten free) which showed positive on HLA-DQB1*02 (I was negative on the more common DQ2 & 8). I'm not sure how it is in the...
  24. If you do try beer, remember to check that it is beer not made with any gluten ingredients ... i.e., GLUTEN REMOVED IS NOT OK for those with Celiac's. If you can get it in your area, Ghostfish is my favorite, certified gluten free and even tastes good to those that don't have to be gluten free.
  25. I also agree that the food journal would be really helpful for you. I had a few foods that bothered me until I healed a little more, which I can eat now, but it's good to know in case you have problems in the future. I found this cute little journal on amazon (hope it's ok to post the link): https://www.amazon.com/Gluten-Free-Zone-Everywhere-Allergies/dp...
