Trader Joe's isn't actually a health food store, though they do carry some "organic" products. They have many great gluten-free options though. Check out their website for a good list of stuff you can buy there.
Whole Foods is a lot bigger, more expensive - a health food supermarket I guess you could call it. Trader Joe's is like a specialty food store that has some gluten-free stuff.

I am dairy, gluten and soy-free.
You're actually better off getting calcium from greens than you are from dairy. All of the foods mentioned above are great calcium sources (many of them better than dairy, actually). There's a lot of information out there supporting the notion that dairy is not actually a good source of calcium, as we're led to believe by the dairy industry.
I find dairy the easiest thing to give up, but that's probably because I've been doing it for so long. Try coconut milk, coconut oil (in place of butter) cashews in a blender to make a creamy dip, raw vegan recipes, Parma cheese substitute, So Delicious coconut ice creams and yogurts....
I do eat soy lecithin occasionally in dark chocolate.

I see that now that I've read the article again. There is something with those carrots for me, though--maybe the equipment that processes them? Who knows.....probably my equipment
I read somewhere that baby carrots are soaked in a chemical bath of some sort. Can't remember the source though - I just remember that I stopped eating them a couple years ago after reading about it.

I'm in my late twenties and I live abroad. I think the feeling lonely thing is completely normal, as is the only finding drunken people thing.
It helps me to avoid having any expectations or criteria about what should happen or what I'm supposed to do here. Also, don't be afraid to just go out and do things by yourself if you have to. You're more likely to strike up conversations with the locals if you do that, instead of constantly being surrounded by big groups of other foreigners.

Three Cups of Tea
Ugh...LOL. Just curious - did anyone read this book and actually get through it? Took me about three months to get half way through, then I gave up. Life is just too short.

Thanks dlp52 and celiac-mommy for responding and the suggestions. I will definitely try the samples and get one in the intensive since I have a few brown spots to cover. Did y'all buy brushes from them too? I have some from BE, but I think the big brush is a little rough. I'm guessing this works like BE where you do a foundation, cover up and something to set it. New makeup - yea! I told my sister about this too. She couldn't use BE - said it irritated her rosacea.
The EM brushes are soooooo much better than the BE brushes. I loooooove my EM brushes - so luxurious and amazing (seriously!). Pretty affordable too for how great they are. I'd recommend the flat top, long handled kabuki and eye kabuki.

Donna is in LOVE with the two newest lavendar eyecolors: Laptop and Jasmine Tea.
I got confused there for a second and thought I was on facebook.
So....I got my order. Hm....yes, Jasmine Tea. Lovely light purple shimmeriness.

Here is the list of Frito Lay products not containing gluten:
Open Original Shared Link
Doritos are on there. I don't eat them so I don't know but maybe someone else can weigh in on whether they are indeed gluten-free.
To keep things less confusing, it helps me to stick to obviously gluten-free foods (more natural stuff - like fruit, veggies, rice etc. - things without really complicated ingredient lists...) Just an idea...

You could do something like this:
Pecan Pie
Serves 2
The healthiest pie around! Make several if you
-
maybe look for Seeds of Change if you hit the health food store. I remember that one being pretty good and problem free.
-
I can't remember specific brand names but if you have a health food store or Whole Foods nearby they should have plenty of options.
-
Anyone know if they are running any discounts right now??? I know they have in the past........
-Jessica
Yep they've got this one going on:
Enter the words "naturalpink" upon checkout in the coupon box and receive 12% off your order! This special starts October 13th 8:00pm CST and goes through October 24th 10:30pm CST

Don't ever rely on others for food - assume all food at all social events will be unsafe - be prepared by having your own food with you or eating beforehand.
Learn to enjoy tasty and healthy foods in new ways. Cook with new and interesting ingredients (fresh herbs, different kinds of vegetables). Explore new flavors and new recipes.
oh wow - this is an old thread LOL

I keep all my stuff in my room and try to remember that most non celiacs are absolutely incapable of understanding that a breadcrumb could be dangerous. But yeah, I know shared kitchens are annoying.

You might want to check Whole Foods 365 and Pacific brands. I'm not positive they don't contain vanilla though.
-
That's really nice of you. If you like to cook from scratch, vegetables, meat, fruit, rice, cheese, beans and herbs are some naturally gluten-free ingredients you might be able to throw something together with.
-
It really shouldn't. Check the ingredients. I once had the same problem with a certain brand of black tea but couldn't ever figure out why.

I've heard and read that there can be casein in wine (and there are milk allergy warning labels on wines in Australia) but I've never heard this about vinegar or coffee. I'm in Europe so I'll check the labels and let you guys know if that part is true.

I don't claim to be an expert but a good option might be to stick to a gluten, dairy and soy-free diet yourself, and breast feed her.

I just made some really tasty ginger honey chicken.
Chop up about 1 - 2 inches of ginger root, 1/2 an onion and 1 or 2 garlic cloves.
Saute in olive oil for a few minutes
pound chicken breasts (or use thighs) and add to pan
let chicken cook for a few minutes, then add 1 to 2 spoonfuls of honey (whipped honey works well).
when chicken is nearly cooked add some chopped broccoli and maybe more honey.
cook for another couple minutes
put over brown rice.

There's almond milk and hemp milk ...or you could eliminate the "milks" entirely. Whole Foods and other health food stores usually have a nice selection of alternative milks...just avoid the Rice Dream and read labels and you should come across plenty of options.

Ginger tea is really good. Chop up some fresh ginger, put it in a mug, add boiling water and some honey, maybe lemon too. It's really tasty.
You can also just chop it up and add it to stir frys. I like ginger, garlic, broccoli and celery over thin rice noodles - add a bit of sesame oil and you're good to go.
You can also chop up ginger, onions and garlic, saute in a pan with olive oil - add some canned black beans and chopped fresh tomatoes - put over brown rice.
It's good combined with honey and oranges over chicken. I don't usually cook with recipes but it's hard to lose with ginger, just use small amounts at first b/c it's quite strong.
It's great juiced too- if you have a juicer.

I have one called Stott Pilates Core Challenge with Moira Merrithew that's pretty good. You can also pack some therabands in your suitcase and do resistance exercises with those (when you can't find decent weight machines).

coconut milk whips. put the can in the fridge overnight then drain off the water that separates. You can whip what's left.
