  1. Also, does anyone know whether there is a specific gene associated with dermatitis herpetiformis and/or gluten ataxia or is it the same genes expressed in those who suffer from intestinal issues?
  2. Thanks guys. I used to get really bad spells of dizziness which has seemed to have gone away since going gluten free. I never would have connected the two issues together. I used to work in a bakery for Kellogg which was when I ended up going to the hospital for what they diagnosed as vertigo. But I'm kind of starting to think that my dizziness could have...
  3. I get blisters from soy just as I would from gluten. It took an extremely strict elimination diet for me to figure it out.
  4. What is peripheral neuropathy? I have had total numbness at the tips of my toes for maybe twelve years now. It's accompanied with other strange symptoms such as symmetrical rash, joint pain, fatigue and brain fog. The doctor told me that I probably stubbed my toes or injured them by wearing uncomfortable shoes. I'm wondering if it could be peripheral neuropathy...
  5. My son is 5 and his symptoms are all behavioral and neurological. If he eats a few pretzels he will develop something called a stereotypy where his fingers become sort of stuck in distorted positions for days. Before we removed gluten from his diet, he experienced auditory and visual hallucinations, insomnia, loss of balance and fine motor, periods of confusion...
  6. My son reacts with neurological symptoms when he comes into contact with gluten. He is NCGS. We are doing Paleo diet right now to include avoiding all dairy and he's doing well. They sell a coconut based kefir at Whole Foods and I don't believe it has a lot of additives like guar gum or locust bean gum. I personally have found, through elimination diet, that...
  7. Probiotics help with anxiety.
  8. Very good to know in that 8 of the 20 best selling probiotics claim gluten free yet test positive for gluten.
  9. I would argue that NCGS is a worse prognosis. Many who are afflicted suffer from neurological and psychiatric symptoms ranging from psychosis to epilepsy to MS like symptoms. It should not be diminished as it has been in this article.
  10. Has anyone ever suffered a reaction from swimming in the pool? Is that even possible? Just curious. Thanks in advance
  11. Thank you! Words cannot describe how much this sucks. I am about to lose my mind over this rash. I think I'm going to go back to the dermatologist today to have it swabbed again for infection. It seems like either the infection may be coming back, my DH is flaring like crazy or both. While I'm there I'll see if she can prescribe some dapsone. After that I...
  12. I have a rash that is suspected DH. The biopsy results won't come back for another 7-10 business days. I am currently recovering from a gluten challenge where my DH had subsequently turned into a very nasty bacterial infection. It is such a miserable situation. If I eat anything with gluten blisters will form underneath the infection sight. So in addition...
  13. Sorry. I can't get the pictures to upload. If you are interested I can send them to your email. Since reading your post I got to thinking about handsoaps and lotions. I have no idea which brands do or do not contain gluten, but I tend to use Eucerin and Dove brands. Has anyone researched which brands to avoid and which can be considered go-to?
  14. It takes weeks, maybe months. The first two pics are days after I stopped eating gluten. The last picture is one week after I stopped eating gluten. Neosporin seems to help alleviate the open wounds. I keep it wrapped in gauze since it's on my hand, to keep from geeked infected. Good luck! It took me about four months to get it to go away completely the first...
  15. My son had keratosis pilaris covering his entire torso at one point. I believe it was caused by elevated thyroid and/or gluten consumption.
  16. This sounds really weird, but have you tried giving him vitamin B12? The reason I ask is because you mentioned that he has a strong habit of touching his mouth. My son had a strong habit of touching his eyelids. Not all the time, only during times when he might be perceived as being in deep thought or very focused on something. This was his only lingering...
  17. Yes, we had the MRI, EEG and a large amount of bloodwork. All negative. He would have episodes where he didn't know where he was, auditory hallucinations, insomnia, sensory processing issues, stereopathy, issues with balance and coordination, etc. They were trying to rule out encephalitis. His symptoms disappeared after going gluten free. The decision to...
  18. My son is five years old and suffers from neuro and psychiatric symptoms when he digests gluten. He tested negative for celiacs. We went to Boston Children's and they entered him in a genetic research study. We traveled to the Mayo Clinic and they offered to perform a gluten challenge and spinal tap from there. We have chosen not to pursue the food challenge...
