Rice Is Making Us Sick!
LilyR replied to Angelmomh2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Everyone is different. For me, I had some brown rice pasta and it caused pain and stomach distention while I was still eating it, hadn't even finished my dinner yet. Where as some white rice and white rice flour products seem better to me. I did seem to have trouble with Minute Rice. I just tried Uncle Ben's and I think it was okay, but my stomach was already... -
Wow, that is really a disservice then, not a service. How crazy, but good to know. The Badia website says it's gluten-free, but I was curious if anyone has been using that brand with good results. Maybe sometime I'll try it.

Hi everyone. I noticed a grocery store label in the spice section the other day that said Gluten Free, and it was under the Badia spices. Funny how that store does not have the same label under the McCormick's spices (although I notice stores that put their own gluten-free labels don't do it for every single gluten-free product, they seem to pick and choose...

Anyone here have good luck with molasses, or bad luck/symptoms with it? I only tried it once in coffee (making a homemade gingerbread latte this past winter),and it could be because of other things I was eating or just my stomach not healed yet, but it seemed to bother me. I did add McCormicks ginger to it also, but I have been using that on my green beans...

Potatoes seem okay with me. I also remembered that the day I ate a few Kettle chips, I also tried one seaweed chip my daughter was eating. It said gluten-free on the package and looked like dried out, paper-thin seaweed, so I ate one and then realized, I still should see the ingredients. Come to find out there was canola oil in them. I have questioned...

I had been mentioning Kettle brand to my daughter before seeing they might bother some people. So my daughter brought me home a bag today. It says gluten-free on the bag, and the only ingredients in this one was potatoes, avocado oil, and himalayan salt. So I just ate two. Now about an hour or so later I have bad bloat. The stomach distention sort of...

Thanks. There is no Trader Joes near me. I should keep in mind any out of town to check out sometime. Thanks. That is good to know. I was curious since at one point my stomach was much better and I was eating cream cheese at that time. Then I just started wondering though.
-
Does anyone have good luck eating cream cheese? Of course, Philadelphia bran seems to be the most common to get. I was eating it a while ago and my stomach was getting better. Lately I am struggling though, but was waiting on an elimination diet until I figure out my prescription meds (that have corn in them). I noticed in the Philly cream cheese it mentioned...

That is a bummer about the Kettle chips. I had them on my grocery list to check for this week. Oh, that corn! It has to go and show up in so much. When I first found out I couldn't eat gluten I was still thinking, I can eat nacho chips, taco shells, popcorn! Oh well. It takes some getting used to. Right now I'd love a lemonade and bowl of popcorn. It...

Gluten free frozen fries?
LilyR replied to GlutenedCN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, that sounds like a great idea. I just looked at their site and apparently there are a few stores near me that are suppose to sell the Protes chips, although not sure how accurate it is since one store listed has been out of business for a few years. I hope some of the other stores still carry them. One store it mentioned was CVS, go figure. -
Citric Acid & Magnesium Citrate - corn?
LilyR replied to LilyR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks. That does seem to be the only way. I did contact the company that makes the magnesium citrate vitamins and they verified it had no corn ingredients. Sometimes it just feels like, can we trust the info? I guess trying it to see how we feel also is important. -
Gluten free frozen fries?
LilyR replied to GlutenedCN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you so much for the info on Primal Kitchen. I just checked their website it it says there are a few stores in my town that sell it. I will have to go check it out. I have not tried Sir Kingston yet. I was wanting to at some point. I made a honey mustard sauce from a spicy mustard from one store (a brand called Full Circle - that is the same brand... -
Thanks for sharing those brands. I wonder if they sell Kettle brand in the stores? I wonder if that was the one I got, but forgot what oil it was. I thought it was a black bag though, but lately there is so much I look into with no gluten, soy, or corn, it starts to get hard to remember. I had started bookmarking things that worked for me, but then when...

Gluten free frozen fries?
LilyR replied to GlutenedCN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the recipe. I have not tried it with sweet potato, but sounds good. And I've never tried soaking them in water. I did hear that before but thought it was just for the fried method. I'll have to try that sometime even for the baked method. I am happy I even found a ketchup with no corn or soy in it. It is a bit too sweet, but still, it's ketchup... -
Citric Acid & Magnesium Citrate - corn?
LilyR replied to LilyR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you all for your replies. Ennis and ch88, that is good to know. I'll have to try and watch it carefully to see if it bothers me. It seems to be in so much, like the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste I use. Although I just found Cento tomato puree that does not have it. But it's also in things like even canned tuna, canned pineapple, and so much... -
Since a lot of people with gluten issues also have corn issues, does anyone know about citric acid? I read that is from corn, but also read that magnesium citrate is from corn, yet I found a magnesium citrate vitamin supplement that says it is free from corn. So it's confusing sometimes. Anyone here that can't have corn, do any of you have problems...

Starbucks warning
LilyR replied to SherriN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted Starbucks once to ask about gluten-free drinks and they were not very reassuring and they do seem to claim to be able to guarantee anything to be gluten-free. I basically realize I can't get anything there unless I want a plain coffee, and so far I haven't even bothered with that. I don't dare order a flavor or even a plain latte since they... -
Gluten free frozen fries?
LilyR replied to GlutenedCN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't seem to find frozen fries that are not fried in soy or vegetable oil, so I have not had any luck with any so far. I've made some baked fries at home which is not quite the same, but better than nothing. And I think Five Guys uses peanut oil for theirs, I think...so if you have one near you, you could call and ask them. I had a bunless burger there... -
I tried a few different chips and always got a stomach ache and sometimes bloat. But for me, I think I realized it's the oil they use. Some use canola and some use soy, or even if it says vegetable oil, that is soy. And come to find out, soy seems to bother me. I found one bag that I believe used olive oil, and I have been trying to find it again, but can...

Allergy Pills?
LilyR replied to LilyR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the suggestions. Zyrtec never worked for me. I did get my allergies checked many years ago and have all sorts of allergies, year round. Nothing ever seems to really help a lot though for relief. That chlor-trimeton helps a little with watery, itchy eyes, runny nose, etc. but nothing seems to help other symptoms. I get down right tired, even... -
Allergy Pills?
LilyR replied to LilyR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did recently have a bunch of things like EKG, chest x-ray, lung x-ray, CT scan, and all looked fine. It does not happen all the time. It does seem to happen when I am very congested and having bad allergies. I am sure I'll be back at the dr soon. It is getting frustrating not getting answers to symptoms. So far with all the problems that have flared up... -
Gluten-Free Affordable Makeup
LilyR replied to PolaJaneDelaney's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I gave up for a while looking into makeup, but at some point would like to again. I just got burned out researching things free of gluten, corn, and soy. As it is, right now I have about eight more pharmaceutical companies, trying to find safe versions or alternatives to two prescriptions I am taking. But if I ever find out about makeup, I'll come post... -
Has anyone found allergy pills that are free from gluten, corn, and soy? It's bad enough most allergy pills don't even help me one bit. The only one that helps a little is the Chlor-Trimeton (or CVS brand of it). I found out the CVS brand didn't have gluten, but need to check about the corn and soy. My allergies have been worse than ever this summer....

Thanks for the info. I have been missing bbq sauce too. I was thinking of making some of my own maybe. Weird thing is last Sept when my stomach was getting much better, I had bbq chicken a few times with Baby Ray's bbq sauce. But now I am trying to avoid all corn. One thing though, does citric acid contain corn? I thought I read it did, so have been...
