  1. A friend of mine has Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia. I doubt she has ever been tested for celiac properly, if at all. Questions: 1. There seems to be a link between autoimmune diseases, so did anyone have thrombocytopenia and later found out you had Celiac/NCGS? Can t./low platelet count be a symptom of celiac, in fact? 2. Have your symptoms...
  2. I have the opposite problem now - trying to gain weight. However, approx. 10 years ago I was a bit overweight and was trying to lose weight. What worked for me was a low carb, no sugar, high protein, high fat diet. The 'brand name' was Atkins diet, but I think it's not that important. The principle is important, though: if you consume no sugar and almost...
  3. I'm a NCGS and the gfd has helped me a lot. My symptoms were neurological, GI and gynecological problems. A family member has celiac and two other family members (who are deceased) had gastrointestinal cancer and epilepsy. In fact, I may be a seronegative celiac. My blood tests were negative but I didn't have an endoscopy/biopsy (lack of trust in doctors...
  4. DarthFlec, I agree that it’s a good idea to get tested for vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Some of the issues you have may be caused by magnesium deficiency, for instance. Especially this: Given the symptoms you described, I suggest that you get tested for diabetes as well. Fatigue, loss of vision acuity, shaky hands, brain fog etc. can be signs of d...
  5. Hello Lakergirl, to be honest if I were in your situation, I would reject the endoscopy, at least for the time being. You said you have mycoplasma pneumonia and take antibiotics and on top of that you are in pain caused by the peripheral neuropathy now. So I think this is not a good time to stress yourself even more with endoscopy/biopsy. Both the pneumonia...
  6. This is an interesting question. I’d like to know the answer, too. In my opinion, the villi are healing and repairing. However, it’s not possible to say how much they have healed and repaired based on blood test results alone. For example, if tTG is ‘X’ now, it’s impossible to say that the villi damage is equal to Marsh grade ‘Y’ now. The only way to k...
  7. You're welcome I totally agree. Yes, I have NCGS. My blood tests were negative and I didn’t pursue an endoscopy/biopsy. It was my personal choice – the main reason was that I don’t trust doctors in my country enough to let them perform it. There are risks involved – e.g. small intestine perforation. They ask you to sign an informed consent...
  8. Hi ML123, could you give us more details? Did they run a complete celiac blood panel? Endoscopy/biopsy? (Blood tests = Gliadin IgG, Gliadin IgA, Endomysium IgG, Endomysium IgA, Tissue transglutaminase IgG, Tissue transglutaminase IgA, Total IgA) What do you mean, please? NCGS can't be verified by bloodwork.. This is a great...
  9. You're welcome It was just a suggestion. I'm glad to hear that your vision has improved and that you don't have diabetes!
  10. Plumbago, thank you again for all this information It's very useful.
  11. Thank you, plumbago. This is very interesting, I didn't know that. Would you pls give me a link to the source of this info? Btw I've been off gluten for a month and feel much better. So, I act as if the test was positive anyway.
  12. Matt, do you still have the vision problems? I’ve been reading about diabetes, and there’s a condition called diabetic retinopathy. The symptoms are similar to those of retinal migraines and also reminded me of the vision issues you mentioned in your R.C. post. So I just thought I would let you know. PS: I wouldn’t wish diabetes on anyone, of c...
  13. Ok, thank you.
  14. Ennis, I have a question. How many vials did they take? Just to get an idea.. I’d really like to get a test like this - the problem is I’m only 106 lbs now and would pass out if they took a lot of blood. 3 vials would be ok.. maybe 4. Thanks a lot
  15. Egs, I haven’t read the entire discussion, just skimmed through it, but you’re a vegetarian, right? Being both a celiac and a vegetarian is like the ‘opposite of mainstream’ diet-wise, so maybe that’s the reason many people are still unable to accept it / distance themselves. I’m wondering if other vegetarians / vegans would be more likely to understand ...
  16. Do you take any vitamin/mineral supplements or medications? It can be a side effect of magnesium citrate, for instance. I take magnesium (in the form of citrate) with B6 and can tolerate only half of the recommended daily dose - otherwise the side effect is stomach cramps/pain and D I hope you feel better soon.
  17. Severe complications of undiagnosed/untreated diabetes maybe? It is hard to say. I'm not a doctor. I hope they have ruled this out.. it is one of the most common blood tests.. but you never know. Rachel, I hope your father gets well soon.
  18. Exactly - e.g. candida. OP: This is an article about 'oral candidosis'. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3205665/ You can also google things like 'candida overgrowth', 'candida diet' etc.
  19. I’m sorry you don’t feel well.. it seems like you have many different health problems. If celiac disease/gluten sensitivity is the root cause, all these symptoms might be related. You said you haven’t come off gluten 100%, but don’t want to do a gluten challenge. So, I think you should go 100% gluten free and see if it helps. There is a difference between...
  20. There are 3 different conditions: Celiac disease, Non celiac gluten sensitivity and Wheat allergy. Celiac disease - blood tests: Gliadin IgG Gliadin IgA Endomysium IgG Endomysium IgA Tissue transglutaminase IgG Tissue transglutaminase IgA total IgA + intestinal biopsy NCGS: there are no tests available...
  21. I’m in a similar situation. My blood tests were negative, but I have symptoms that are related to gluten consumption. And I also have a family member (blood relative) who has celiac. I don’t rely on the tests because I’d already been off gluten for approx. 2 weeks prior to testing. Thanks to this forum, I’ve found out that many people make this mistake. ...
  22. Amy, have you had your thyroid checked? Good thyroid function is also necessary..
  23. I just want to add one more thing.. to give you an example.. There is no logic in this: The fact that 99 people out of 100 don’t have celiac doesn’t imply that 99 people out of 100 are fit and well. Almost everyone has some kind of a health issue. Imagine 100 people. Person no. 1 has diabetes. No. 2 has thyroiditis. No. 3 is infertile No....
  24. I just wanted to say that this is exactly what happened to me! The only difference was that I'd cooked the pasta myself So, I've been 100% gluten free for about a month and things have really improved for me. I know that migraines can be terrible and they can really be a symptom of celiac/NCGS.
  25. Maybe I can help with a female perspective. I’d never reject a guy just because he has celiac/NCGS. It’s not your fault. I don’t think it’s possible to prevent celiac/NCGS really. The thing that matters though is your attitude because you can control that. Please don’t take offense but I think you’re stuck in victim mentality. On an instinctive level, I am...
