  1. Yes, it could be something else. We know that certain medications such as anti inflammatories, PPIs and some blood pressure drugs damage the small bowel villi like celiac disease does.
  2. I would not start eating gluten-free yet as your doctor may order an endoscopy/biopsy. Going gluten free before that may invalidate the results.
  3. Can't find a date on this but from what I have read in other places as well there is a growing consensus that there is a connection between celiac disease and depression. There is a lot of info about this out there so I would suggest researching your question. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/related-conditions/depression/ The connection may...
  4. What do you mean when you say, "I have been looking into why the numbers are so high with no results." Are you saying you have no symptoms or are you saying your research has not turned up anything? An endoscopy and biopsy of the small bowel would seem to be the next step as it is considered to be definitive for diagnosing Celiac Disease.
  5. "The finding of tissue transglutaminase (tTG)-IgA antibodies is specific for celiac disease and possibly for dermatitis herpetiformis. For individuals with moderately to strongly positive results, a diagnosis of celiac disease is likely and the patient should undergo biopsy to confirm the diagnosis." https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and...
  6. Toaster bags? Never heard of that until now. But I looked it up and there is indeed such a thing! Somebody was really thinking there in order to come up with that invention.
  7. Welcome to the forum, christen1122! Many of the symptoms you describe are classic Celiac Disease symptoms. celiac disease not only causes direct GI distress but also creates vitamin and mineral deficiencies which in turn often result in bone demineralization and neurological problems. Something called "leaky gut" is part and parcel of celiac disease...
  8. Welcome to the forum, Dee21! First, it was not a good idea to go gluten free before being tested. That can invalidate the test but usually in the direction of a false negative. Second, it is curious that your doctor ordered a test for Celiac Disease and then when the results indicate you do indeed have it to call it a false positive. Did you ask...
  9. Is the toaster the old fashion popup kind or a toaster oven? Sounds like that is the main source of cross contamination worry. In this situation, a toaster oven would be a better way to go and either getting into the habit of washing the rack before you use it or getting your own rack and swapping it in for the other one whenever you need to use the toaster...
  10. Why not just get your PCP to order the tests?
  11. Certainly could be Celiac Disease or maybe gluten intolerance/sensitivity. But there very well may be other medical problems as well. Ask your doctor to test you for Celiac Disease. There are antibody blood tests for this that fall a little short of 100% definitive but it's the place to start. If the blood tests are positive for celiac disease then the next...
  12. I'm not sure that going back on gluten for only a month would be long enough to give valid test results. Seems like people on the forum are advocating about 3 months.
  13. Welcome to the forum, Lura! There are more than one gluten-related medical conditions. And on top of t hat, the terminology can be confusing. "Sensitivity" can be a catch-all term. There is Celiac Disease. There is gluten intolerance. And, there is gluten allergy. Before you go on a gluten free diet, you would need to get tested for Celiac Disease...
  14. High iron levels? Usually, with Celiac Disease people get anemic if anything. When you speak of high iron levels are you referring to ferritin or hemoglobin?
  15. False positives are not common but do happen. Yes, if the endoscopy confirms the blood antibody test, you should go gluten-free immediately. It is common for Celiacs to have vitamin and mineral deficiencies, although most of the time the deficiencies are found in the B-complex spectrum. Are you experiencing symptoms appropriate to celiac disease or is the...
  16. Sounds like it could be Celiac Disease but could be other things too or Celiac and other things. Request Celiac antibody blood tests before you attempt to eliminate gluten. What meds are you taking for the colitis?
  17. Do you know more precisely what antibodies were checked for in those three blood tests you mentioned? Have you looked into SIBO? https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/small-intestinal-bacterial-overgrowth/symptoms-causes/syc-20370168 Celiac Disease produces dysfunction in the immune system as a result of "leaky gut" syndrome from damage...
  18. It is certainly possible/probable that you have developed an allergy/intolerance to some other foods. Due to the "leaky gut" syndrome that accompanies Celiac Disease, the immune system becomes dysfunctional and reacts to some benign food substances as if they were invaders.
  19. Take your allergy testing with a grain of salt. They really aren't very useful in my experience. Consider keeping a food log or just pay attention to your allergy symptoms and see if there are patterns there with regard to symptoms and what you eat. Keep in mind there may be many hours, the best part of 24, before symptoms manifest themselves after you eat...
  20. I don't remember that song but I remember the one about beans in your ears. You look young Sharona so I'm sure that one is not in your memory. It's from the 1960s.
  21. What is earworm? A rock group or a performer? Sorry, I don't follow the Hollywood/entertainment industry scene.
  22. Good advice. Many prepared foods, energy bars, protein bars, etc. contain inulins and alcohol sugars that are difficult for many people to break down. By the way, Sharona, I love your name. Never heard that one before. Is it a family name?
  23. Welcome to the forum Onofrio! Wikipedia has this to say about parmigiano cheese: "Parmigiano-Reggiano is made from unpasteurized cow's milk. The whole milk of the morning milking is mixed with the naturally skimmed milk (which is made by keeping milk in large shallow tanks to allow the cream to separate) of the previous evening's milking, resulting...
  24. Celiac Disease and Diabetes have significant genetic overlap on the genome map. So having both is very common. In fact, there is an element in the medical/scientific community are advocating that all diabetics should also be screened for celiac disease. The good news for you is that the modifications to eating habits necessary to address celiac disease...
