Low libido due to coeliac?
Wheatwacked replied to ReluctantlyGlutenFree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You can get 10,000 IU for $12 for 250 caps. Liquid Iodine $7 for 2 ounces. 10 drops equals 500 mcg. In anything. Flavorless, colorless. A slice of bread in 1975 had 100 mcg. A glass of milk, 100 mcg. So a sandwich and glass of milk was 300 mcg. Today, iodine is not used in bread in the US since the 70's and no one drinks milk anymore. Net iodine loss ... -
Low libido due to coeliac?
Wheatwacked replied to ReluctantlyGlutenFree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I started at 1,000 IU a day and increased it every few days. I was taking those dire warnings of terrible things happening seriously. It wasn't until the third day at 10,000 IU a day that the effects kicked in, An eye opening morning. Long term depression - ended. Joi de vivre - back, virtually overnight. Even at 10,000 IU a day it took from 2015until... -
Feeling of food getting stuck
Wheatwacked replied to HayleighNoWhey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it would be more accurate to call these vitamin and minerals boosters; instead of supplements. Supplement seems like we are supplementing our already adequate intake, while booster would mean we are adding the essential nutrients we should be getting in our food but don't absorb due to villi damage or simply can't get enough from our diets to satisfy... -
Hi, Since 2004 I take zinc glyconate (Cold-Eeze) at the first sign of a cold. Zinc is an antiviral, often deficient in Celiac, and the lozenge coats the mucous membrane, preventing the virus from getting a foothold. Never even gets to the cough and congestion stage. Once I waited and had a mild sniffle for two days. If you get them alot look into increasing...

Low libido due to coeliac?

"Having adequate iodine levels could make all the difference when it comes to getting in the mood. This is because iodine is crucial for the production of thyroid hormones, and iodine deficiency is a leading cause of low thyroid hormone levels, which often lead to problems such as low energy and low libido." Seaweed: Your Sex Life Saviour I recently... -
In high school after lunch my whole body would vibrate and I'd black out, eyes open for about 10 minutes. Never got caught, but it did mess with tests when it happened during a test. If the teacher was reading the question, I even managed to mark down answers. I went out in the middle of the PSATs. Only finished 25 of 50 questions and woke up when time...

Feeling of food getting stuck
Wheatwacked replied to HayleighNoWhey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good Job! While a tenent of medicine is to do no harm, the medical profession seems to have lost their way when it comes to wheat. Any thing first to prove it is not gluten enteropathy; GFD only as a last resort. In many cases it is not enough to avoid gluten. After years of malabsorption vitamin and mineral deficiencies, most subclinical to western... -
My doctor thinks I'm allergic to gluten!
Wheatwacked replied to PinaKnudson's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Nope, not a secret society 🚽 "The purpose of this site is to provide people who have celiac disease and are not aware of it with a means of figuring out what their problem is, and to help those who know they have it to lead more comfortable and healthy lives." Due to DH’s intensely pruritic nature, intact vesicles are rarely seen ... -
My doctor thinks I'm allergic to gluten!
Wheatwacked replied to PinaKnudson's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Welcome to the forum PinaKnudson. In one sense the doctors were right. It is dermatitis. Dermatitis Herpetiformis though is not an allergy. It is an autoimmune disease caused only by gluten exposure. A Celiac blood panel set of tests while eating at least 4 slices of bread a day for two weeks or more may or may not come back positive. A... -
Questions about cross contamination
Wheatwacked replied to Steve P's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Steve, That is not a phobia, it is self preservation. The simple solution is for you to break your own addiction to gluten. Potentially in the future, if you have kids there is a high probability of them having Gluten Sensitivity. This book might give you insight to her attitude; -

It is built into our culture. Look at the commercials. We will even risk fatal perineal bacterial infection to keep eating gluten. Good luck with your endoscopy. I hope you get sick as a dog so you can end your doubts. 👍 -
The big difference seems to be quail eggs have twice as much B1, B2, B3, B12 and cholesterol. More importantly quail eggs are considered hypoallergenic. Then the other question is at the same iodine level, why don't quail eggs precipitate DH or have I misunderstood? Nutritional comparison of chicken and quail eggs. Chicken Eggs , Quail Eggs ...

Our western diet has been estimated to be from 15:1 to as high as 27:1. The Importance of Maintaining a Low Omega-6/Omega-3 Ratio for Reducing the Risk of Autoimmune Diseases, Asthma, and Allergies "Up until about 100 years ago, the omega-6/3 ratio has been around 4:1 or less. However, the typical Western diet now provides an omega-6/3 ratio...

Iodine and gluten-free
Wheatwacked replied to ItchDrivingMeCrazy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Good question. All the research done is on potassium and sodium iodate and iodide forms. The molecular I2 form is clumped in but never specifically mentioned. Research in this may bear watching reguarding DH. Molecular Iodine: Could This Be a Game Changer for Dentistry? Though on a positive note for us smokers: Ali and Lear speculated that smoking... -
Eating with family during holidays
Wheatwacked replied to HayleighNoWhey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The best way to do that is by raising your vitamin D intake by high dosage aupplement or unprotected summer sun. 10.000 IU a day will over time stabilize at about 80 ng/ml. Even so, it does not solve your Celiac Disease but may moderate the effect of minor cross contamination. If you eat gluten your symptoms or other symptoms will come back. It is not... -
Questions about Test Results
Wheatwacked replied to KGB1819's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Start shopping for a new primary care physician that has experience with Celiac Disease but don't pull the trigger until you hear their interpretation of the results. You may be surprised. Given that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy and your symptoms are improving on GFD it does seem a no brainer, but... -

Here is a good article from NHS Inform Dermatitis herpetiformis that will answer some of your question. DH affects around 1 in 10,000 people. Most people with DH will have the same kind of gut damage seen with coeliac disease, but may not complain of gut symptoms Just over half (60%) of people with DH don’t have gut symptoms. The l... -
