Toddler Diagnosis?
Wheatwacked replied to CatLady15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After 3 months without gluten he will have healed and his blood tests will be negative. That does not mean "not celiac, ok to eat wheat, rye and barley again. It does mean the diet is working. Many of those recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease are often deficient in vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals. It's a side effect called Malabsorption. ... -

Yeah, but that's probably not where you want to eat, anyway. -
Gluten free vitamins
Wheatwacked replied to llisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
@llisa, I am curious to know how much vitamin D you are taking and what is your plasma level in nmol/L or ng/ml what the doctor's target 25(OH)D is. Hopefully with the gluten free diet you'll be able to feel better. -
Celiac Maybe a Possibility?
Wheatwacked replied to More2Learn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In that case if you answer "no" does that mean the chef doesn't have to be as diligent? If you ask for "pork free" do they ask if it is an allergy too? How's this for an answer: "I get violently sick if I eat wheat, barley or rye"? -
Gluten free vitamins
Wheatwacked replied to llisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I order my vitamins from Pipingrock.com. They also make Cream of Rice. Clearly marked gluten free. Right next to the Cream of Wheat. Stoneyfield Whole Milk Yogurt will help repoputate your gut bacteria. It has lactase so is ok for lactose intolerance. 6 ounces has 210 mg calcium. For magnesium I get the 10 ounce bottle of liquid Magnesium... -
It took me 2015 to 2021 at 10,000 IU a day to get to 80 ng/ml. In 2019 I was still only 47 ng/ml The highest it has reached is 93. Tested every 3 months. While a one time massive dose can be used to quickly raise vitamin D levels, its effects only last three months. Because vitamin D is stored in fat, an obese person would require more...

Celiac Maybe a Possibility?
Wheatwacked replied to More2Learn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It seems you have proven that you cannot eat gluten. You've done what your doctors have not been able to do in 40 years. That's your low vitamin D, a common symptom with Celiac Disease. Zinc is also a common defiency. Its an antiviral. that's why zinc gluconate lozenges work against airborne viruses. Vitamin D and the Immune System+ ... -
Could be the Ozampic is masking your expected symptoms. Like an analgesic masks pain. Qzampic slows digestion to lower the rate glucose enters the intestine to slow its effect on glucose level. It seems it might also slow down the gluten entry into the intestine, reducing its trigger level for the antibodies. Ultimately the damage from gluten is the same...

You can sell it better if the whole family does gluten free. If he does have Celiac Diease, it is genetic so either you, your spouse, or both have a 40% chance of also having Celiac. There are over 200 non classic symptoms also caused by celiac disease not often considered by doctors. Joint pain, muscle pain, muscle cramps, osteoporosis, and allergies for...

Hello @MHavoc, thank you for your question and welcome to the clinic. First, has the contstipation abated with the GFD? If your are pursuing further diagnostics you must continue to eat gluten. Each lab has their own reference range for their test, but they indicate an H for high. Typically anything above 11 is considered positive. Mild...

Welcome @aperlo34, The transistion to GFD seems scarier than it is. It took my infant son six months to heal. Adults take longer, six months to two years to heal the gut. There are over 200 various symptoms and diseases that result from gluten and the resulting vitamin and mineral deficiencies malabsorption syndrome causes. Most will go...

Can't figure this out

More likely the Sibo was a symptom of the Celiac malabsorption syndrome. -
Looks like the PCP called it. Good for him. Now you need to work on the malnutrition, primarily vitamins and minerals, caused by the years of malabsorption. Virtually all newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease are vitamin D deficient, even though he may get lots of sun, get a 25(OH)D blood test. My son is a professional ocean life guard year round...

Vitamin D plays a key role in absorbing and retaining calcium and phosphorous for bone and tooth mineralization. When vitamin D levels are low and the body isn't able to properly absorb calcium and phosphorus, there is an increased risk of bone pain, bone fractures, muscle pain, and muscle weakness. In older adults, severe vitamin D deficiency (levels...

Considering having a blood test
Wheatwacked replied to Kristina12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your blood test is soon and you have not been gluten free for long, your doctor may be trying to save you the challenge. Seems like she may be pretty sure you have Celiac Disease already. After you stop eating foods with gluten, your symptoms will likely get better in a few days to weeks. Your small intestine should heal completely in 3 to 6 months... -
Daughter waiting for appointment
Wheatwacked replied to jjiillee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi @jjiillee, Call the doctors office and tell them about the improvement with gluten free diet. Diagnosing Celiac Disease is as much an art as it is a science. Many go 10 years of suffering various symptoms before finally being diagnosed. Most celiacs have vitamin deficiency, it is part of the diagnosis. Especially vitamin D. Ask for her to be... -

You might want to consider eating lots of yogurt to repopulate your intestines with benificial bacteria after all those antibiotics. I've had good results with Stoneyfield Whole milk vanilla and add a couple handfuls of frozen berries. Potassium, magnesium, vitamins C and K, fiber, and prebiotics—carbohydrates that help promote a healthy gut. The n... -
Polymyositis is a rare autoimmune disease that makes your immune system attack your muscles. Any autoimmune disease is associated with low vitamin D. Even as a kid I had weak legs. Now I feel the burn just walking to the mailbox. A case-control study found that patients with polymyositis (PM) had higher lactate levels at rest and after...

Micronutrient Inadequacies in the US Population "A US national survey, NHANES 2007-2010, which surveyed 16,444 individuals four years and older, reported a high prevalence of inadequacies for multiple micronutrients (see Table 1). Specifically, 94.3% of the US population do not meet the daily requirement for vitamin D, 88.5% for vitamin E, 52.2% for...

The paleo diet is based on the idea that the human body evolved to consume a balanced ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, and that the modern diet is out of balance. A healthy ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 is 1:1–4:1, while the modern diet is closer to 20:1–40:1. The paleo diet aims to restore this balance.

Best thing you can do for them! First-degree family members (parents, siblings, children), who have the same genotype as the family member with celiac disease, have up to a 40% risk of developing celiac disease. Make sure you and they get enough vitamin D and iodine in their diet. Iodine deficiency is a significant cause of mental developmental...

Yes, Lisinopril gave me an inguinal hernia from the persistant cough. Amlodipine doubled urine output and dry eyes so I could not wear contacts, another had me walking bent over like a ninety year old and one knocked out control of my quadracepts so knees would give out. None lowered my blood pressure. Average BP 132/67 for Oct 21 - 26. Lowest was 10...
