So earlier I assumed the 34 was 34 ng/ml which is just above deficient level. But if it is 34 nmol/L that is equivalent to only 13.6 ng/ml. Vitamin D in Children’s Health "It is recommended that targeting a 25(OH)D level of 40–70 ng/mL [ 100-175 nmol/L] for each individual would provide optimal health benefits and reduce health care costs. I take 10,000 IU of vitamin D, 500 mg Thiamine and 500 mg Choline. There is not much difference between 13 year old and adult for RDA and UL.

This caught my eye: We hypothesize that the enhanced dopamine system and reduced acetylcholine (Ach) in gastric tissues might contribute to the delayed gastric emptying observed in PD. The role of the vagal pathway and gastric dopamine in the gastroparesis of rats

You can use the National Nutrition Database to create a spreadsheet to track nutrition intake. Here is a sample: http://nutrientlog.doodlesnotes.net/

Has his B6 gone down any? That's the one test that sticks out abnormal. Vitamin B6 Fact Sheet for Health Professionals High intakes of vitamin B6 from food sources have not been reported to cause adverse effects. However, chronic administration of 1–6 g oral pyridoxine per day for 12–40 months can cause severe and progressive sensory neuropathy ...

You may not get a "definative" answer from a medical point of view. I hope you do, but it seems like your body is telling you. Our bodies don't read the medical and insurance company protocols, and gluten addiction is a powerful thing. When you think about giving up gluten can you just walk away, like giving up lettuce? Don't ignore those positive blood...

No control group, except as compared to general public. "85% and 82.7%, respectively, which is higher than what was reported in the general Jordanian population" It was more of an effort to point out that depression and Celiac go hand in hand. Sometimes 1+1 = 2. Vitamin D deficiency and associated factors in Jordan "The prevalence of low...

Newbie! Pre Intestinal Biopsy
Wheatwacked replied to JDG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
JDG, Do you know your vitamin D blood test results? There is research that higher levels of vitamin D can protect the villi against the antibodies, perhaps explaining why, even though more than 40% worldwide have the genetic markers, only 1/2% of them are diagnosed with Marsh 3 damage. Observationally, vitually everyone diagnosed with villi damage have... -
A bolus boost of vitamin D, the largest you can get for him. Maybe some of those 50,000 IU shots from the doctor so it bypasses ingestion. He's at 29 ng/ml, according to "close to the low threshold on D". Homeostasis for D is 80 ng/ml. The range is 29 - 120 ng/ml. Raising it can only help him and according to this report may be the answer. With the...

Accidentally eating gluten
Wheatwacked replied to Elliemae7395's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I often see the sprouted, whole grain, heritage grain and gluten free breads scattered haphazardly together. BRAT diet, to a Celiac diagnosis is like gasoline to put out a fire. Made sense until they discovered that Celiac is caused by gluten, which is in virtually all toast. No surprise it doesn't really work. It would be good for short term... -
Itchy nose but no allergies
Wheatwacked replied to Acacia Voynar's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi and welcome to the forum. "Eat the foods that love you back." - Dr Amen. Why the restrictive diet? Calories don't build muscle. You need choline, potassium and iodine. Carbs become either energy (if you have enough B vitamins) or gets stored as fat. I love finding new connections to vitamin D. "The role of vitamin D in allergic... -
Welcome to the forum Tmiles17. There is really nothing to fear. Many societies had no metabolic disease until they adopted a gluten centric diet. American Indians didn't have an alcohol problem or rampant diabetes. Eskimos didn't have heart disease or diabetes until around 1950. Same with Australian Aboriginese and Japanese on their traditional diet...

Could this be Celiac?
Wheatwacked replied to Rhyanna C's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Trust your daughter. She is not faking. She is dealing with physical responses that everone tells her are not real. Very confusing. Tell the truth and be called a liar and faker. About the mood swings, get her vitamin D level checked. I was 63 before I discovered the reason I could not breath through my nose was not "just the way it is". Pancakes... -
Within normal limits for vitamin D, ie. greater than 29 ng/ml only means you are not at risk for Rickets or osteomalacea. Our bodies need more for the mental health and immune systems to function and for the health of our other bones and teeth and colon cancer. " Struggling with excessive sweat? Maybe you’re missing out on these vitamins One o...

Check your vitamin D blood level. Normal in summer is 80 ng/ml (200 nmol/L). I require 10000 iu a day to keep it there. Vitamin D at higher levels modulates the immune system. For energy heres my current list. Thiamine 500 mg B3 500 mg B5 500 mg B12 1,000 mcg (1 mg) Taurine 1000 mg essential antioxidant amino acid Choline...

Take a look at vitamin D levels. I venture to say those of you who are asymptomatic and testing negative have higher 25 Hydroxy vitamin D plasma levels. There are over 200 other symptoms linked that improve with gluten free diet. My son was diagnosed as soon as he was weened. I stayed in denial until I was 64. Going over my wifes illnesses from childhood...

A&W and Other Brands of Gluten-Free Root Beer
Wheatwacked commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
"Abita Root Beer is made with a hot mix process using spring water, herbs, vanilla and yucca (which creates foam). Unlike most soft drink manufacturers, Abita sweetens its root beer with pure Louisiana cane sugar." Almost every brand of soft drinks manufactured in the US, including Original Recipe Coke, uses High Fructose Corn Syrup instead of real...- 4 comments

Hopefully you have been on a gluten free diet, as per your GI's diagnosis of Celiac Disease. Untreated celiac disease is a major cause of malabsorption syndrome which will lead to various nutritional deficiencies. Once the thiamine is dealt with you will likely have symptoms of other essential nutrient deficiencies, such as vitamin D deficiency, B2, 3,...

Confusing blood tests results
Wheatwacked replied to Olfy75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It the US Folic Acid and Folate are interchangeable on the nutrition labels. Folate B9 has no Tolerable Safe Upper Limit. Folic Acid B9 is 1000 mg. I thought my prostate hypertrophy diagnosed when I was 21, got better because of the gluten free, but when I went gluten free I was also Folic Acid Free. In any case, I think that folic acid and gluten also... -
See how many of these other symptoms you can identify with. I had 19 symptoms that improved or disappeared on GFD. link below Did they check your vitamin D level? Most people with celiac disease have low D. If you get plenty of vitamin D from sunlight, food or supplements, your 25 hydroxy D plasma around 80 ng/ml (200 nmol/L) it could be protecting...
