For depression, try raising your vitamin D intake to target 80 ng/ml. It takes me 10,000 iu a day to maintain it. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I was always depressed until I increased D. At 7000 a day, nothing. For anxiety try 5 mg Lithium Orotate. It reduces the intensity of the need to act. In Texas a study compared the incidence of groundwater Lithium...

Believe it. Multiple deficiencies, each with its own symptoms. There is a thing called High Calorie Malnutrition. The Role of Thiamin in High Calorie Malnutrition It is estimated that less than 10% on the SAD diet get enough Choline. Prehistoric man ate sodium to potassium ratio was about 1:11. Currently we are around 1:1. The WHO and many countries...

According to the Merck Manual, the first step in treating Celiac Disease is Gluten Free Diet and reverse any essential vitamin and mineral deficiency. Are you eating or supplementing enough Choline? The RDA is the equivalent of 3 large eggs or 15 ounces of lean top round steak or 10 cups of cooked broccoli every day. The Tolerable upper limit would be...

Are some of us over doing our Protein intake ??
Wheatwacked replied to Jackie Garrett's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
These medications block the DAO enzyme: Interesting that the same deficiencies found in Celiac Disease keep popping up in other "unrelated" diseases. Studies have found that trying this diet can be important in confirming a diagnosis of the intolerance. It may also improve the symptoms. However, a person should not have a low histamine diet... -
Hello, @iwant2believe, First, I'll just say that there are industries spending tons of money to convince you not to believe. You are lucky to have found a doctor who listens and takes you seriously. Can't breathe? There's a pill for that and you can dance your children off to the school bus. High blood sugar? There's an app for that. On first read...

Died with a Hawaiin role in hand in hand.😇 It's a shame, he survived one lung out, triple bypass combo, and 15 years later anther tenth of the remaining lung for a biopsy that turned out to be wood fiber. Only to be taken out by a leaky gut. @Flash1970 Thank you. My son was diagnosed when he weaned in 1976, and I bloated up in 2012.

Could also be Non Celiac Gluten/Wheat Sensitivity. The diagnosis is confirmed by ruling out celiac disease then trial GFD showing improvement followed by Gluten Challange with return of symptoms. Prevalence is 10% vs. only 1% diagnosed Celiac Disease.

Non-responsive?
Wheatwacked replied to Bouhoue's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How much of what are you taking? Other meds involved? You need well over the minimum 100% DV to compensate for the malabsorption. For example: the RDA for choline is 450 mg, the tolerable upper limit is 3500 mg. The upper limit is the equivalent of 24 large, hard-boiled eggs or 56 cups of cooked broccoli. It will affect your metabolism of fats, cell membranes... -
My brother handed me a copy of Wheatbelly the last time I saw him essentially on his death bed a few weeks before he died. Six months earlier just before surgery to fix a stoma between his intestine and bladder I had begged him to start GFD. I'll never know if it was a joke or admitting I was right.

Anaphylaxis due to celiac disease?
Wheatwacked replied to Tash18's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies, especially choline, folate and iodine are common in pregnancy. Tack that on to malabsorption due to undiagnosed celiac disease and you've got the perfect storm. -

Welcome Heather. There has been research done on epilepsy and celiac disease. "Epilepsy is 1.8 times more prevalent in patients with celiac disease, compared to the general population. celiac disease is over 2 times more prevalent in patients with epilepsy compared to the general population. Conclusion: Patients with epilepsy of unknown aetiology should be...

Small red beans, pinto beans and garbanzo beans are a good source of fiber, protein and potassium. Try eating a cup a day for a week or two and you will feel better. -

Welcome to Celiac.com Popeye. This is an older topic so you might want to start a fresh one to avoid confusion. Having said that you should look at diet or environmental changes. Are you and your family eating gluten or been tested for Celiac Disease? The symptoms could fit the profile. Palmitic Acid is an omega 6 that is added to feed to increase production... -
That Celiac Disease has been ruled out by biopsy does not mean your symptoms are psychosomatic. As @trents said it is simply the first step in diagnosing Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. The next step a wise doctor would take is a trial Gluten Free Diet to see if your symptoms improve and then a Gluten Challenge trial to see if they return. He could run a...

Non-responsive?
Wheatwacked replied to Bouhoue's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your bloodwork indicates you are being very compliant with the GFD. Well done! GFD does not intrinsically mean a healthy diet with sufficient vitamins and minerals. Some are in fortified wheat products; some are simply lacking in the western diet. Vitamin D deficiency is very common in Celiac Disease, but its effect is mostly improved mental health and mood... -

Nsaid use can cause low bilirubin. What are the causes of low bilirubin? "A 2017 study suggests that lower bilirubin levels might make it harder for the body to remove reactive oxygen species. These are linked to inflammation associated with ulcerative colitis." Just my own thoughts, but bilirubin acts as an antioxident and your son has lots of inflammation... -
Are some of us over doing our Protein intake ??
Wheatwacked replied to Jackie Garrett's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This chicken little claim of too much protein started in the early 1960's, back when Weight Watchers was using slices of bread equivalents to compare different foods and TV dinners were ramping up. Next came too much fat. So I question: How is it that the Iceland Eskimos did not have diabetes until they started eating a western diet? We are struggling... -
Ever made paper mache? Or pancakes? Add some sugar, baking powder and milk to the paper mache slurry and leave out the newspaper and you've got pancakes. Don't overthink it. DH I understand is very slow to resolve. From your description you are deficient in many different vitamins. Take something like Geritol Multivitamin and an additional large amount...

Serotonin Syndrome Serotonin Syndrome and Thiamine: Is There a Connection? Antidepressants can cause thiamine deficiency. Either reduce the SSRi or increase Thiamine. Since it is a good idea to talk to the doctor about it, increasing the B1 (thiamine) is safe, and if you feel better, it will be a talking point. Regarding Tart Cherrys. Red Leaf Lettuce...

Any reason to continue now that you know what caused your eating issues. I ate gluten for 63 years. Talk about anger. In the meantime make sure to replenish your vitamins. Celiac Disease is one of malabsorption. Here is a chart that may help. The RDA is the daily amount that will ensure 95% of the population will not get the diseases the deciding committees...
