Other studies have shown that folate requirements are inversely related to choline status. It was a sad day when they convinced us that eggs and red meat are bad. I think it was a diversion from that fact that grain fed meat and eggs alters the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio in our food, increasing inflammation. Fish oil has more omega-3. Maybe it is just a coincidence...

Congratulations! https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2009/08/low-choline-levels-in-pregnant-women-raise-babies-risk-for-brain-and-spinal-cord-defects-study-shows.html The RDA for choline in Pregnancy is 450 mg per day. "The DV for choline is 550 mg for adults"; "In adults, the average daily choline intake from foods and beverages is 402 mg in...

Can TMJ cause salivary gland pain?
Wheatwacked replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good article. I found this little gem buried in the middle. I am a long way from ESRD. I remembered that in addition to the vinegar and sour candies I would sometimes get an itchy feeling in my glands from canned tuna. I think it was only water packed tuna, not oil packed. -
Can TMJ cause salivary gland pain?
Wheatwacked replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do get a weird feeling in that area sometimes if there is vinegar in what I eat. Also sometimes with sour candies. Can't say if it was my vitamin regimen or if I am better at avoiding vinegar but it hasn't bothered me in a while. I have stage 2 CKD and in January got worse to stage 3. I am hoping it was the weight loss and will prove temporary.... -
Can TMJ cause salivary gland pain?
Wheatwacked replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Despite several years of orthodonture as a kid my bite was still off. I had TMJ that started as an adult. I thought it was due to anxiety clenching. When I was 45 a childhood filling in the middle molar left side came loose (can we say don't chew gum?) and through procrastination the tooth broke apart and had to be extracted. It left a space that against... -
Possible celiac?
Wheatwacked replied to StaleyFam89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only for sure way to tell if wheat, rye and barley are a problem for you is to abstain from them. You will notice improvement almost overnight. The endoscopy will make your insurance company happy. There are over 300 symptoms that have shown improvement with GFD. Look at books by Dr Fuhrman, Dr Davis, Dr Hymen and Dr Amen. I found them helpful. They... -
Not to be confrontational, but you've also always eaten gluten. I could never breath through my nose, always snored. According to doctors it is just my norm. It had an advantage though, noxious odors that had others scringing did not bother me, a superpower. Yet since I started GFD at 63, I now am a constant nose breather and rarely snore. Sleep apnea that...

Possible celiac?
Wheatwacked replied to StaleyFam89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My wife died of malnutrition after a hysterectomy and three rounds of chemo were unsuccessful for stage 4b ovarian cancer. No one gave us nutritional advice. -
Before undergoing a serious surgery like a laparoscopy, you might want to give yourself a chance to heal with GFD and reversal of malnutrition. If the obgyn insists, stall. A few weeks delay will not change the surgical outcome. With GFD and the right nutrients your symptoms should subside before the pain from the surgery would have and surgery will not solve...

22 with MS from cross-contamination
Wheatwacked replied to Melissa Mandrick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
After two plus years of GFD your gut should be fairly well healed making malabsorption less likely and deficiencies from your GFD diet more likely. Iodine is affected by Celiac Disease (absorbed in small intestine) and low iodine intake is a cause of Graves Disease. You may be iodine deficient that started with your Celiac diagnosis and has just never... -
Possible celiac?
Wheatwacked replied to StaleyFam89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry to hear of your surgery. Even sorrier it did not have the expected results. And then the "eye roll"! Yes. Before you go further you need to correct any deficiencies. And here is the problem. The general belief is that vitamin and mineral deficiencies are not a problem and anyone suggesting it borders on quackery. It's not just the... -
Tachycardia and palpitations

Piecing together the timeline here's what I see. You went to the naturopath because although feeling well and strong you were experiencing periods of dizziness. She did bloodwork and determined you were slightly anemic and had small intestine damage. (Question: What tests indicated intestine damage? Were there other nutrient deficiencies?) You started the...- 19 replies

Celiac, raynauds, b6 toxity, copper Deficiency
Wheatwacked replied to Sassyred's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No need to wait. I took the extra 5 mg prednisolone last night and woke up four hours later with most of my "tells" improved. 1)when I flex my leg muscles while seated, they feel crunchy and creaky 2) toenails are sensitive 3) general achiness and pains like the flue, but I haven't had the flu or a cold since 2004 thanks to Cold-Eezz (zinc gluconate lozenges... -
Celiac, raynauds, b6 toxity, copper Deficiency
Wheatwacked replied to Sassyred's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is his polite way of passing the buck. Once you stop eating gluten your small intestine heals and nutrient absorption returns to normal, usually in 6 to 24 months. From then on it is more about the deficiencies in your diet than malabsorption. A good nutritionist familiar with the Gluten Free Diet might be helpful. The Graves and Hashimotos... -
Similarities of my wife and your mother. I am so glad for you that your mom recovered. After several miscarriages my wife Kathy gave birth in 1976 at age 28. Our son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease shortly after weaning. She was diagnosed with endometriosis as the cause of inability to get pregnant again. She had pollen allergies and very allergic to bee...

Nsaids can cause low neutrophils and I assume you take a lot for your pain. Autoimmune diseases (as evidenced by your hives) can cause high lymphocytes. Solve the hives. Prednisone would help your pains and the hives, but it might be difficult convincing your PCP to give it a trial run. In its defense prednisone is cheap, its effectiveness has been proven...

Low libido without gluten
Wheatwacked replied to Spherical Bird's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Long enough to feel better and build up body stores. Depends on how much is in the food you eat. I chose an organic nori because it is certified heavy metal free, and the other seaweeds and algae have way too much iodine. From 3 to 100 times as much. 3 sheets a day (7.5 grams) is working well for me, usually with my morning coffee (French Roast by the... -
How to introduce meat into my diet after 9 years vego?

Fiber. 100 gm of uncooked beans have 20 grams protein, 17 grams fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, manganese, thiamin, 130% RDA of folate. All good for the bones and feeds the beneficial gut bacteria. Recommended fiber is 30 grams. It will have you moving nicely in a short time. I cook my own to avoid added salt and the... -

Iodide is absorbed in the stomach and duodenum and cleared by the kidney and the thyroid. https://ijpeonline.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1687-9856-2014-8 Celiac disease is an inherited autoimmune disorder that affects the digestive process of the small intestine. The small intestine is connected to the stomach; the first parts of the small... -
Though it doesn't have the religious overtones, keeping gluten and non-gluten separate is not much different than keeping milk and meat separate in a kosher household. Avoiding inadvertent cross contamination despite best intentions. A strictly kosher person will not eat in a non-kosher restaurant even if it does serve kosher food. Some families keep four...

24 linear inches in my kitchen junk drawer. 😀 Geritol Multivitamin for a single pill, but I avoid folic acid, synthetic vitamin E and vitamin A because some studies link them to cancers, and I smoke. Except for vitamin D my daily intake is well below the RDA upper limit. Even with 250 mcg/day vitamin D since 2015 my blood plasma is only 80 ng/ml. Adding th...

In one study, 95% of patients with duodenal villous atrophy were diagnosed with coeliac disease, meaning that 5% had an alternative diagnosis. In one study, SIBO affected 11% of patients with biopsy-proven, non-responsive coeliac disease. SIBO becomes more common with advancing age and is often predisposed to by an underlying abnormality affecting the small...
