Thank you. She was an RN and kept most of it to herself but it went on a long time, maybe years. I noticed lots of weight gain and gastric distress that seemed wrong. I was practically buying those 10 once bottles of magnesium citrate by the case. We were in lockdown from Hurricane Francis (landfall 1 am Sept 5, 2005 ten miles away). By dawn she was in so...

In 1976 every one told my wife that our 6 month old was just "colicky" and it would pass. She should take valium. She persisted and found the only doctor in Israel that treated this. At the time there were only 12 others in the country being treated for Celiac Disease. He prescribed Nutramigen and after 6 months a Gluten free diet and my son recovered and...

Herbs and food sensitivities?

You have so many issues it's hard to know how to start. I understand your frustration. First, whether Celiac or NCGS the treatment is the same. Gluten Free. Down the road it may matter but don't worry about it now. Until you find a doctor that helps, pick one thing that bothers you and focus on it. Then move to the next. Along the way things will get better... -

Then there is the possibility that a person diagnosed with Celiac, also has unidentified NGWS or wheat allegies. Something that typically would not be on the radar except in products like this. -

I cannot find where I read that statement, so I must retract it. Since there is no GMO wheat, there is no reason for wheat to be included in discussions. I did find this: Open Original Shared Link "Safety of GE Wheat for Food and Feed While the glyphosate-tolerant GE wheat was never deregulated by APHIS, Monsanto had submitted materials to FDA on the... -

Just like they state "made in a facility that also...", or "reduced salt" they could label it "Less than x ppm gluten." Apples are gluten free. Watermelon is gluten free. But this is primarily an economic and political issue, not nutritional. By the way, Wheat is excluded by statute from all congressional discussion of GMO. What does that tell us? -

We know nothing about this doctor other than the primary said s(he) uses herbs in the practice. That's why an initial consultation would be a good idea. That mom has the same problems could be genetic or environmental or difficienies in the diet. Traditional medicine mode is to find a diagnosis and prescribe a medication, usually to block the symptoms. That... -

I would be worth your while take the referral to meet with this doctor and find out what he/she really does. Any information is more than you have now. You can make your decision based on your meeting. Your doctor may not know anymore about him than you do. Chinese and Ayervedic have a long history with herbs, the Cleveland Clinic has an evidence based department... -
If you would like, I can calculate out your daily nutritional intakes from a list of the foods (quantity and ingredients for 24 hours in grams is easier) you and your wife eat on a typical day, one for you, one for her. It will offer you a quantitative analysis compared to the RDAs which you can use to identify any gross nutrition deficiencies and discuss...

Just do it for a month and find out. There is no good reason to not eat gluten free. Fruits, vegetables, dairy and cheaper than many canned or boxed foods. Be aware that processed gluten free foods often are no healthier than processed gluten foods. Most wheat (including barley and rye) based products are mandated to be enriched. "These restored nutrients...

Giving up the gluten based diet I went through the same emotions. I had to go through the stages of grief. Shock and Numbness, sadness, anger, anxiety, and confusion, barganing, longing, acceptance, apathy, anger, despair and hopelessness, withdrawal, return to a new state of "normal". This is a major change in your reality. Unfortunately a gluten free diet...

I just want to feel better

I was pretty much as you describe for years. Prednisone is the only thing that controlled my body pain. Even after 7 years gluten free I still need it. Aspirin: could sleep all day. Ibuprofin 800 mg three times a day: Could watch TV in bed. Tramodol controlled most pain but still needed aspirin or advil or tylanol for the inflamation and still not functioning... -
As an infant in 1976, around 6 months, my son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. He had the bloated belly, colic, bad. He looked like a Biafra Famine baby. He was biopsy diagnosed and ate only Nutramigen for six months. He was strictly gluten free until at 5 years old he started sneaking bread. Not understanding, we allowed it. His original doctor was not...

If you are on blood pressure meds, particularly Lisinopril it is a common side effect. I wound up with an inginal hernia from it. I found that rinsing with anti plaque mouthwash then brushing without toothpaste helped. The mouthwash softens the plaque then you don't need an abrasive. I am male 70 years and was first diagnosed with prostate...

No real good reason, I even have a gluten-free pizza in my freezer. I do not make a habit of it, but from time to time maybe once a year, I need to validate that my obsession with vitamins and minerals is actually healing my body. There is no way I would ever revert. I know too well. In my warped mind I think of it as the annual President Kennedy's Physical...

According to one study: 71% of people with celiac disease had high levels of state anxiety. 24% of the control subjects had high anxiety levels. 26% of the newly diagnosed celiacs showed anxiety as a trait. 15% of controls showed anxiety as a trait (that difference, however, did not reach statistical significance, meaning it could have...

So, on Sunday an opportinity presented itself and I gave in to a craving for pizza. The last time, I glutened myself on two different occasions (2 Kaiser rolls) my response was itchy puffy eyes with post nasal drip; this time it was significantly increased blood pressure instead that lasted until Tuesday. Tuesday at 3pm it was still high 175/85. I took 1...

Refractory Celiac?
Wheatwacked replied to J Morgan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I thought you might find this an interesting statement. "Hypertension complicated by insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia can also be observed in normal rats fed a fructose-enriched diet." Here is Nutramigen. At around the same price it has better potassium (virtually none in Essential Care) to sodium ratio 2.3:1 and 139% calcium vs 10%. Seems more heart healthy. They all use different quantities on the labels making comparison difficult, so your nutritionist may not be aware or have other reasons. Back in 1976 supplies were limited so I often... -

It's seems you did well on GFD until the COVID hit you, so this is way more complex than cross contamination. I hope Mayo can find the answers for you. Meantime it is imperative that you keep up your nutrition. How many grams of powder a day? I can calculate it so you at least know what you are getting and what you are not. My infant son was...
