Refractory Celiac?
Wheatwacked replied to J Morgan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's seems you did well on GFD until the COVID hit you, so this is way more complex than cross contamination. I hope Mayo can find the answers for you. Meantime it is imperative that you keep up your nutrition. How many grams of powder a day? I can calculate it so you at least know what you are getting and what you are not. My infant son was... -

If you eat a 3 ounce bag of potato chips with the 400 grams of Equicare powder you lower K/Na to 7.8:1, healthier. Also brings potassium and magnesium to to 84%, Sodium to 101%. Calcium (11%) needs 1000 mg more and you have at least 100% of the others. Six ounces of chips gives you 97% Magnesium and >100% on everything but Calcium it is still short 10... -
Refractory Celiac?

I took the opportunity to calculate the totals for 400 grams of Equacare, Jr as if it were your total nutrition for the day. Obviously for information purposes only. 1876 calories. It seems to be mostly corn syrup solids 34% (sugar carbs). Most of the calories are fats and carbs. Only 33 grams of sodium (RDA= 500) so the potassium to sodium ratio is 88:1... -

"But nothing changed and my health went downhill. My doctor said I just had gastritis. In 2008 I went to the emergency room with head pain with numbness on the right side of my face. After numerous scans and opinions, doctors determined I had a non-specific version of Trigeminal Neuralgia." https://www.drfuhrman.com/success-stories/775/sues-story ... -

I needed to make this list for my doctor so I thought I would share it. I take them together at the same time every day. In addition I target 5 grams potassium daily from food sources. My perception is that my recovery is accelerating. BP,total cholesterol and triglycerides are trending down. Only meds are 10 mg prednisone and 5 mg buspirone. It is a pain... -

Refractory Celiac?

"That’s because meat and animal fat are completely digestible. They don’t leave much residue behind, so they simply can’t be a direct cause of constipation." https://www.doctorkiltz.com/carnivore-diet-constipation/ Thanks, good question. In the effort to lower my cholesterol I recently added oatmeal to my diet (hypothesis: fiber flushes bile, causing chole... -
After the posts in Familial Hyperlipdemia, I switched from 500 mag oxide (waste of money) to two ounces flavored mag citrate (580 mg magnesium) in a glass of ice water daily, tastes like a flavored lemonde. Magnesium needs a high stomach acid for best absorbtion so many recommend without food. Good results re: cold feet and still improving. I've been taking...

Although completely unfounded in any research that I am aware of, I believe that Type 1 Diabetes is caused by in utero effects of wheat. There aren't any statistics at all on NCGS and type 1. It makes simple sense to me that Type 1 would do better on GFD if only because it would lower the overall glycemic index. Most of the symptoms of Celiac over being blamed...

Zoey, sorry to hear your tribulations. Gluten is more addictive than potato chips, so that is why you get that response from people. Like telling an alcohalic in denial that he has a problem. You are, by existing, threatening their food choices. My wife had stage 3b ovarian cancer, a year to live, and was still denied SSI disability. There are companies that...

Try a hot shower or bath at bedtime. It helps me. I rinse with Listerine then brush with a $15 throwaway electric spin brush. The antiplaque mouthwash softens the plaque so the brush is more effective even without abrasive toothpaste. Image sandpapering your car to keep it clean. I was put on coffee in sixth grade for ADD. I still need a coffee at bedtime...

I actually started the prednisone to treat gout. It took about an hour to reduce the pain at 30 mg that nothing else touched. The treatment was for 10 days and it was only afterward I realized that for that whole week not only was I pain free from the gout, but also all the other general body pain. So started the prednisone again and within the hour there...

Are you eating enough choline? Great that you have excellent medical care, but doctors tend to forget the nutrition basics. "Although most people in the United States consume less than the AI of choline, frank choline deficiency in healthy, nonpregnant individuals is very rare. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Choline-HealthProfessional/. You are not... -
I started prednisone in 2012 at age 61 for a similar situation. 30 mg a day to function. After starting Gluten Free diet I only needed 10 mg a day. The side effects of Prednisone are certainly less scary than Cellcept. At first glance Cellcept reminds me of Thalidomide. I recently stopped, after eight and a half years, the prednisone at the urging of my doctor...

Refractory Celiac?

For fatty liver you want to make sure you get minimum daily 600 to 3500 mg choline. The RDA for B5, Panothenic Acid is 5 mg with no upper limit. When there is insufficient Folate our bodies use B5 to lower homocysteine levels, an important indictator of cardiac risk. So like the other water soluable B vitamins I think it better to err on the high side because... -

Two things to consider/discuss with your doctors: Choline is absorbed in the small intestine. This makes it a prime candidate as an unrecognized vitamin deficiency in Celiac Disease. Choline is used for synthesis of phosphatidyl-choline, a key lipid in cellular membranes; acetyl-choline, a neurotransmitter; and betaine, a methyl donor. Choline deficiency... -

Ibuprofen (aka Motrin or Advil) and ulcers

Yes. I started drinking 2 ounces Flavored Magnesium Citrate (10 oz bottle) in 10 oz of ice water, tastes like lemonade. It has indeed made a big difference in my feet. My feet are not burning cold and numb feeling. This nothing else works on, not prednisone, not tramadol, not NSAIDs. I continue with that daily, regardless. Somedays are good. Some nights at... -

Sounds like a Fatty Tumor. I have dozens all over including my ribs. They are not cancer. I've had three removed, one on my back, two behind my knee because they caused pain. Show it to your doctor or a specialist. "A lipoma is a fatty tumor located just below the skin. It isn't cancer and is usually harmless. A lipoma is a slow-growing... -

Not to mention liver damage from the NSAIDS, excluding aspirin. My analgesic of choice has always been Alka Selzer because it works fast, has bicarbonate to reduce stomach upset and protects the stomach. And for some reason it makes me hungry, which as an anorexic is good. For long term anti-inflammitory I was on Prednisone (30mg a day pre GFD, 10 mg post... -
In 1976 my infant son had the same problems. Also had a swollen belly and was miserable all the time. Everyone was convinced it was just colic, and if my wife would just take Valium, all would be well. Eventually we found a doctor and after biopsies and such he was diagnosed with Celiac Disease He was put on Nutramagen Infant Formula for six months and had...

Vitamin C . B5, folate and choline are also affected but rarely adressed. Here's a good article: Appropriate nutrient supplementation in celiac disease (tandfonline.com) https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.3109/07853890.2013.849383 "celiac disease patients on a GFD for at least 10 years with neither evidence of histological damage nor positive serological...
