Hello everyone, so I am a little nervous my 3 year old son has his endoscope on Thursday AM. Lucily he is under the care of Dr.Fusano and the docs at the center for Celiac research. They have come to the conclusion that he is IgA deficiant since his blood work came back with an IgA level of 0 and an IgG level of over 100. Hopefully his endoscope will tell us more. Im so nervous though, I hate having them done myself now I have to watch my little man go through it!

Hello,
I have heard people on this site talk about Red Robin resteraunts and bieng able to eat there Gluten Free, I went to the web-site and couldn't find a Gluten Free menu. Can anyone give me some input on this resteraunt?
Thanks!

Feel so strange talking about this but, before bieng diagnosed with Celiac and going Gluten free I had a yeast infection about once a month. I was beginning to think there was something really wrong with me but after going gluten-free for the past 3 months i have not had anymore.
-
Okay so I know i was wrong but I had a relapse, after bieng gluten-free for 3 months I ate pizza tonight! It wasn't a moment of weakness just pure stupidity on my part! I wanted it and I ate it (it really wasn't as good as i remember). So far no ill effects other than the brain fog, and idegestion, so now its a wait and run for the bathroom game i guess. I am still having trouble with my eating, I can't seem to get over feeling sorry for myself and that I can't eat what everyone else does so I make myself feel better with a bag of peanut M&M's. It's crazy I know I need to get over it and focus because I hold the power to make it work for myself no one else can! Im trying, I work out 6 days a week 2 with a trainer but like today I work out then eat M&M's (and Pizza) I need to get over it already!! Mabey the pizza will make me feel so lousy that I will finally get that gluten-free is my new life and I need to embrace it not wallow in it!! Anyway Thanks for hearing me think!

The only fast food stuff I am comfortable with so far is Wendys chili and baked potatoes and Chick-filla fries. Still to nervous to order a burger without the bun, but have heard others say they do it, Im afraid of the whole CC thing!
-
I read somewhere they are gluten-free and since reading that I have had a bag a day of the peanut M&M's and have had no issues (other than weight gain)!

I called & made the reservations for eating. They were very helpful & said any restaurant would be able to help us when we get there if we just ask for the chef that he will come over & let us know what can & can't be ordered. We are super excited & I think my husband will leave there full & happy.
Disney was so accomodating to my gluten-free diet last month when we were there. They were truly AMAZING! I could eat in the parks, at a quick service or at a sit down fancy dinner, Disney makes it all about you! We loved it so much we bought in to the Disney Vacation Club and will now be going every year even twice a year sometimes. Have a great time!

We went to disney about a month a go, I ate so well! The resteraunts were FANTASTIC! the chefs came out and sat with me and went over my menu options and if I didn't want anything from that menu they would fix me something. I even had great desserts! The chef at our hotel made me a delicious breakfast every morning, he makes the best gluten-free panckaces. I got a list of all the quick service places in the parks that served gluten-free foods and what I could and couldnt have, let me know if you would have any intrest in those lists. Anyway, you will not have a single problem in Disney the food and ways they accomodate you are amazing! not to mention you can have all the Mcdonalds fries you want bieng they have carts through out the parks that only serve the fries and these are gluten-free! There is even a place in Magic Kingdom that has gluten-free pizza!!
Good luck and let me know if you want those lists.

I can't offer anything helpful here, just wanted you to know that you're not alone. I have the same bloodwork--only my IgG is off the chart, everything else is normal (but I'd been gluten-free for three weeks before the bloodwork). Anybody else have the same?
I'll be very curious to hear what the final answer is here!
Both of my kids were IgG positive and everything else came back normal, my youngest IgG test came back greater than 100. We are waiting to see Dr Fusano in July to figure out what is going on, Its nice to hear of others with the same questions. I am so confused bieng they did the Ttg IGg test first and were floored at how high they were then before we go see dr fusano he wanted more tests done and thats when a week later they had the TtG IgA and the tests were normal, so one minute there was no doubt my kids had it now we are not so sure, but I would love to know what others in this situation have been told. Any info would be great bieng I have to wait and wonder until July.

I would say yes, or at least gluten intolerance. IMHO, I am not a medical pro. but I believe these are positive tests. Are they having any symptoms, even non gluten seeming ones like ear infections, ADHD or ADD, moodiness, growing pains etc? If they are I would try to get your appointment moved up or look for a pediatric GI who could get you in sooner. You could also maybe use Enterolab for a second confirmation but I am pretty sure the tTg is pretty specific for celiac.
Thanks,
my oldest is ADHD medicated and has constant ear infections about 3 times a year, my youngest tTG IgG test came back >100 but the tTg IgA came back at like 4 (negative) He has some bathroom issues, and a distended belly (not severe) he gets ecema and reflux alot.
The GI doctor we are supposed to be seeing is a very well known celiac specialist, so it is a wait to get in with him. My doctor hasn't called me back to answer some more of my questions, so hopefully he can help me. Or hopefully some people in here can offer their input.

My kids had blood tests due to my diagnoses of Celiac disease both came back (tTG) IgG positive one came back Antigliadin IgG positive, after there doc consulted with a Celiac specialist who will be seeing them in 6 weeks we were told to have more blood work done theses were more celiac tests one bieng a (tTG) IgA both of my boys tests on those came back negative. I am very confused, we don't have an appt with the specialist until July and my doc by his own admission dosen't know much about this. Can anyone tell me what they know about the difference, or why this would happen. Do they have Celiac?
Please any words would be good!

You child shoud be checked for IgA deficiency. This could be the cause of the neg IgA and pos ttg. I will tell you that either way, with the positive ttg the ped GI will want to do an endoscopy and obtain biopsies.
Only my IgA blood test was pos, ttg was neg. Stool test (Enterolab) showed both positive.
As far as your kids, it is your call, but here is what I did. When I found out I had celiac we eliminated gluten from our household completely. At the same time we had the celiac panel bloodwork done. Only my 1st son had a pos IgG, nothing else. My children still had gluten when outside of the home, but not very frequently. As we began to notice some symptoms of reactions to gluten in them we have made them gluten free.
I just received my test kits for the children from Enterolab yesterday. I don't care what the Ped GI wants to do next, I refuse to submit my children to anethesia and endoscopy when I know non-invasive test procedures are available. Some docs take Enterolabs testing, some consider it hogwash. However it seems that those that are most knowledgable about Celiac accept their test results, and those that don't know much about celiac won't...
thats my 2 cents!
What is an Iga deficiency mean? I thought it to be a little wierd that all 3 of our tests came back IgA negative but Ttg positive. I am hoping my kids do not have to go through the endoscopy, it was bad enough making them have there blood taken.

Out of curiosity, does it happen alot that IgA tests are negative and tTg tests are positive? Thats the way mine were and my doctor says the tTg test is more accurate. Anyone else?

Hello, I am still so upset, I just spoke with my kids doctor to find out there blood test results. Both had normal IgA tests but my oldest son had barley (like 2 points above normal) positive Ttg test (he is 6). So his pediatrician is going to consult with a pediatric Gi doc before he goes gluten-free, Never had any growth issues he has always been on off the charts as far as size, but he was diagnosed as an ADHD kid and put on Adderol daily which has since made his weight drop down, he has always had very large hard to pass bowel movements and alot of anxiety issues. But now my other Child (3) had a very high positive tTg test result (all the doc told me was it was in the hundreds) So at this point I am waiting to hear back from the pediatrician on what my next step should be. I don't want to have them go gluten-free only to hear the pediatric GI specialist wants them retested or endoscopies done and then I have to reintroduce Gluten.
I am just so worried about how they are going to handle this (gluten-free), Is there a good book on how to deal with Kids that have Celiac ( i was only diagnosed the end of Feb. and am still having trouble grasping the whole thing!) Do you have the kids go gluten-free cold turkey or do you slowly introduce gluten-free products?
Please any advice would be appreciated!

OH YEAH!!! Eat those greasy waffley potatoes of goodness because they are SAFE!!! Chick-fil-A is nuts about their dedicated friers!!!!
So Im back to the fry thing, when you get fries there do you tell them you have to be gluten-free or you can just order the fries because it is normal for them to be cooked in seperate fryers? Im getting excited to make a trip to Chick-fil-A!!!!
-
I usually get either the grilled chicken garden salad or the grilled chicken sandwich, no bun, with fries, etc. I eat there all the time with no problems!
So the fries are safe? Im dying for fries!!
-
If it was Kraft, and it didn't say anything about wheat, barley, rye, or oats, you're A-OK!
Personally, I use Chick-Fil-A buttermilk ranch, lol.
Whenever I go there (at least once a week) I get one or two extra packets of ranch, and I don't feel guilty because, being chick-fil-A, they charge for EVERYTHING, including extra dressing!!!
Yummy and portable!
off the subject but what do you normally get to eat when you go to Chick-fil-a, I haven't dared to try resteraunts yet with the exception of Outback.

hello,
Made a great grilled chicken salad for dinner and used my favorite dressing (Kraft three cheese ranch) I am pretty sure it is safe. It did say modified food starch , but I was under the impression that with Kraft they would go into more detail if it did include any wheat products, am i right?
What salad dressings does everyone else use?

Hi everyone, i'm in count down mode to my disney world trip! I'm so excited!! We will however be driving, 16 hours, yuck! I am of course taking a cooler with snacks and sandwich roll-ups, but in case we stop what can and can't i have? I know there is definatley a risk of cross contamination and such but just in case we stop along the way i want to be prepared. I of course know I can have a Wendy's baked potatoe but can I have there Chili? Mcdonalds i know is iffyl with the Frie issue but last I heard they were gluten free, is anything else there? Arbys, Burger king? What about Cracker barrel do they have a Gluten Free menu?
thanks for the help!

Thanks everyone! I am looking so forward to dinner tonight! Im even making my first loaf of gluten-free bread as we speak.
-
So i found a recipe on one of the threads that was for bbq shrimp and I am going to make it tonight. I bought Kraft origional BBq sauce but the label only lists vinegar as one of the ingredients. It doesn't specify which type. Does anyone know if it is safe I heard Kraft is good about listing if it has gluten, but just want to double check.
Thanks!

So I had my 4 month gluten free endoscope to see how all was healing and I got the official news yesterday that my biopsy shows no signs of Celiac however my blood test came back weak positive this time which is still better than the original strong positive. My Doc says it's good news and that I am showing great results from the Gluten free diet!
On another note we spent yesterday at the U of Md while my 3 year old went through his first endoscope, all went well his scope showed no visible signs of inflammation in the stomach/small intestine but his bloodwork was a definate positive in their eyes so we won't know the official results for a week after Dr Fusano and a pathologist review the biopsy results. My son also had alot of inflamation in the esophogus which the docs say is totally unrelated to Celiac so they also took biopsys of that. Anyway I am counting down until next Thursday so I can finally know whats going on with my little man!
