  1. For a while I thought I was having problems with sulfites because I was having reactions to a lot of wines, especially imported red wines. But I wasn't having reactions to any other sulfite-containing products. All of this wheat paste stuff is news to me, but it actually makes some sense. Several months back I tried the Tolosa no-oak chardonnay (a San...
  2. I have an alium intolerance/allergy. Sometimes my symptoms are different--if I've been exposed to high quantities, I might actually feel constriction in my chest, extreme abdominal pain, dizziness, etc, but if I have an occasional small amount of alium, I generally won't have symptoms, or I'll just have an upset stomach. It's annoying because a lot of the...
  3. my white blood cell count has been low for years (I'm 29), and to the best of my knowledge no one else in my family is affected. I've been gluten free for five years now, and my wbc is still low--not dangerously low or anything though. I've never had a doctor worry about it, and I haven't shown awful symptoms related to it, so I just don't worry about it...
  4. I actually had a very easy time being gluten free both in State College, Pennsylvania, and to some extent in Miami, FL. Surprisingly, I now live on the Central Coast in California, and I find the knowledge of celiac and the access to products to be the worst I have ever experienced anywhere that I've lived. It's nice to have a Trader Joe's around, but the...
  5. I concur with all of you--celiac pain can be absolutely unbearable; although, like some other posters, my pain is not high toward the ribcage but rather lower, in the bowels. I don't actually get so much gas, but I do get all of the other classic G.I. symptoms. One thing to add though, if you are a woman, lower pain like that can also be a burst ovarian...
  6. Cdford--did your neurological symptoms show up before your celiac diagnosis or after? All of my neurological symptoms showed up two years to the day after my celiac diagnosis (when I started the gluten free diet). Penguin and Tailz--thanks for the info on Epstein Barr--that's a relief. Also, Tailz, I have had one weird symptom that involves weakness...
  7. Good news--the MRI of my brain came back normal. Thank goodness! We still don't have answers, but without lesions on the brain, I'm not really concerned about MS anymore. I'm going in for an MRI of the cervical spine and an EMG of the right leg next week. Lorka--I do stretches but mostly of the back and neck since my physical therapy was prescribed...
  8. I can't thank you all enough for all of the great information and words of support. I really appreciate this, as it's been a difficult time. I can speak to friends and family about this, but I have a lot of close friends that I work with that I haven't told about these issues because I don't want it to get back to my employers that I'm struggling with something...
  9. On Tuesday I'm going in for an MRI and mid-September I'm going in for evoked potential tests because the neurologist seems to believe that there's a possibility that I have multiple sclerosis. From what I've learned thus far, this also seems to be an autoimmune disorder, and I was wondering if anyone had ever been tested for this before and found out that...
  10. Wow, I'm shocked about Port. I'm going to have to check on this. My boyfriend and I have had several varieties on various occasions and I haven't had a problem yet. I guess I'll have to be more vigilant in calling first.
  11. Yes, I actually went to Qdoba and they said they had nothing acceptable for celiacs and refused to serve me--I wasn't pleased at the time because I was hungry, but I would have been less pleased had I been glutened.
