  1. Thank you for your input, pikakegirl. I have looked at the FODMAP list and I'm eating almost all of the fruits and veggies that are banned. Aha. I'll have to make a list of safe foods for shopping this week and see how it goes. Thanks again!
  2. Thank you Ennis_TX & Awol! Very helpful info. I actually started the Keto diet a few weeks after going gluten-free and only recently went off it. I did not have these issues while Keto, but I also didn't have these issues prior to going gluten-free. Possibly I just introduced too many gas-inducing veggies all at once. Last night I ate two hot dogs...
  3. Also, I don't know if this matters, but I am also on an iron supplement and Vit D sublingual as both of those are low. The iron does constipate me somewhat but has never given me gas but thought I should mention it just in case.
  4. Hi All! I have been having the worst gas for the last two weeks and need to find out what is causing it. I have bloating and gas pretty much all day, but it is worst at night. I stopped eating dairy and soy weeks ago (last time was in July), and I thought that avocado and hummus were causing it (although I have never had a problem with these foods...
  5. Like Ennis, I'm doing a modified paleo/keto diet. I do eat a lot of fruit though, but no dairy (except butter for cooking), no grains, no beans and no potatoes. I don't eat soy or eggs either. Lots of veggies, meat, seeds and fruit. An easy way to start this diet is to follow the Whole30 program (just google "Whole30" and a bunch of sites will come up with...
  6. I have OCD tendencies (mainly repeating things), anxiety, and an impulse control disorder (that they now call a BFRD; i.e. trichotillomania) and I used to do exactly this as a child. My main problem was the seam on my socks and where it landed inside the shoes. If they weren't perfect and the shoes weren't tied exactly right I would toss them across the...
  7. It's my understanding that our bodies do not absorb non-heme iron (iron found in vegetables) as well as we absorb heme iron (found in meat). When you said you were vegan AND you work out frequently, I was not surprised that your iron stores are not up yet after 8 weeks. Even without celiac, some people have a hard time absorbing iron and it can take...
  8. I too think it's anemia. I would also add that you should ask your doctor to test your ferritin levels (the CBC doesn't check that--at least mine didn't so I would ask your doc to be sure). My CBC results were on the low end of normal, but my ferritin is 24. That's also "normal" (between 12-150ng/ml is the range), but I'm experiencing dizziness, very heavy...
  9. Hi All! I just found out I have the celiac gene. My brother has it too; he was diagnosed with celiac. My sister also has the gene but she was diagnosed NCGS. I have tried twice to do the gluten challenge so I can get proper blood work and this last time (last Friday) I got so sick I missed two days of work this week. I am just today feeling like myself...
  10. My sister has the gene but tested negative for celiac. She was diagnosed as NCGS so it is possible. I'm not sure what you do in that situation as far as testing goes other than to ask them to continue testing for other things as well.
  11. I have only been dismissed by one doctor re: celiac, but everything else you have written sounds like my experience with doctors in general. I don't know if it is necessarily your small town because I had terrible experiences in San Francisco and LA. It took me 4 years to diagnose a torn ligament in my hip (which occurred because I was hit by an SUV...
  12. Thanks for the links! Oh yes, I agree! I want to dump him. I could see my brother's doctor who diagnosed him but she doesn't take my insurance (I don't have the best insurance plan), so I'd have to pay out of pocket for that too. I am just not looking forward to having to find a new doctor that takes my insurance.
  13. Thanks for the advice, cyclinglady! I wish I had medical support. I really need to find a new doctor. My current doctor does not think I even need to be tested despite my brother's diagnosis because I didn't have any painful/major symptoms until I re-introduced gluten. I would be paying for the blood/genetic testing out of pocket because he doesn't think...
  14. Hi All! I'm new on the site. I found out in January that my brother has celiac. I decided to do an elimination diet to see if I noticed a difference. (I cut out gluten for 1 month and the only difference I really noticed was that I became regular whereas before I alternated between diarrhea and constipation; sometimes in the same day.) Flash-forward...
