  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. How frustrating... I recently contacted some companies regarding their gluten content. These are the responses I received. I know it's a long post, but I figured that I should pass along this info (at least Dove takes some initiative): ALMAY: Thank you for your recent comments from the Almay website and your interest in our products. Unfortunately...
  3. Burt's bees just sent me this detailed list of gluten-free products: (They also got back to me within a couple of hours, rather than a couple of days like most companies) Appropriate List For Gluten Restricted Patients Products NOT containing wheat, Oat, Rye & Barley derived ingredients Updated: Jan 12, 2007 BABY BEE BABY...
  4. I just received this reply from clinique: Thank you for your interest in Clinique. While a formulation may contain no wheat, oat, barley or rye derivatives, for the benefit of our gluten-sensitive consumers who may have cross-sensitivities, Clinique takes the extra precaution of including corn, rice and soy in our research. Facial Soap - Extra...
  5. I just got off the phone with wyeth company, the makers of chapstick. They informed me that while they do not add gluten to their products, they cannot confirm that the products are gluten free. Also, their Peppermint flavored chap stick (which I had been using!!) has no conclusive information either way (Ugh!) Anyone know of any gluten-free lip balm...
  6. I can relate 100% -- I too had to ask my dr to spell celiac AND I was diagnosed in grad school (bye-bye fast food and pizza delivery)! Four years later, though, and it's so much more manageable. Everybody here is right -- this is THE spot for celiac and gluten info. It's been so helpful for me. Here are some tips I picked up along the way... Shop at...
  7. I truly feel for you. The first time I went grocery shopping, I literally cried and lost a lot of weight in the beginning just because I didn't know what to eat! I swear, though, it gets better after the first few months. It just takes a lot of time. Like others have mentioned, I had to "grieve" for a while and, honestly, feel a little sorry for myself...
  8. I completely forgot about this -- I used to get face numbness ALL the time (pre diagnosis). Then, one day when I had to get an IV due to dehydration (yikes, the things that happened before my appropriate diagnosis!) I had the numbness again and was told that the 2 were possibly related.
  9. I have experienced some of these symptoms before. I don't know if this will help, but have you considered that your headaches could be due to dehydration? This happens with diarrhea sometimes and is a side effect of celiac. It can also result in "tingling" in extremities (or at least that's what happened to me). Also, I had some "heart problems" once...
  10. The brand of lozenges I use is zand (zand.com). I found them at whole foods and used them when I had bronchitis. The Green Tea with Echinacea actually taste pretty good, too. On a side note, I saw a nutritionist today and she informed me that "glucose" just means sugar -- shouldn't have gluten in it, but who really knows?
  11. I sympathize with what you are going through. I had symptoms for 8 years before being diagnosed with celiac -- in that time I was told to see psychiatrists and psychologists because no tests revealed anything "wrong" (so it must have been all in my head). The most important thing is to remember that you have to advocate for yourself. Demand that certain...
  12. I know what you mean -- up until a couple of weeks ago, I was literally living on Lomotil. Thanks for the diet tips. Just yesterday my gastroenterologist also informed me to cut out all fruits and veggies for a little while. I had never even considered that! Also good to know about the Pepto if my previous symptoms return. Thanks again.
  13. I've been suffering for some time now and was wondering if anyone else has any insights/advice on my newest diagnosis... I was diagnosed celiac about 4 years ago and have been extremely careful about my gluten free diet. In addition to celiac, I was diagnosed with IBS 13 years ago. About 2 months ago, I began experiencing severe diahrrea, which lead...
