  1. My new favorites: Glutino Gluten Free Organic Bars (chocolate & peanut)-smaller than a "traditional" granola bar, but taste fabulous and travel well. Progresso Canned soup (low sodium chicken and wild rice)- $1.25 a can at Target with pop-off lid I don't really like creamy soups, but they have many gluten free soups, and many are LABELED gluten free...
  2. Thanks a bunch, Richard. When I first started gluten-free eating, I never reacted to the McD fries (and I react to EVERYTHING severely), so I thought it was strange when it came about that they did have gluten. So strange.
  3. Nature's Path organic corn flakes, I add raisins or blueberries. Dee-lish
  4. Thanks so much for over 20,000 blog hits! I'm so humbled that you love my musings...or love to laugh at them...or laugh AT ME...or love to HATE me, lol. As you know, I enjoy singlehood more than the average person, so here are some of the romantic DON'Ts I've had to endure over the years from well-intentioned men (I'm recognizing their effort, really) attempting...
  5. Totally Gluten-Free turkey day again, but this time at my newly purchased house with my Major's mother and my mom&stepdad all in from Florida We did lots of fix-it stuff on my new house (bank repo) Parents woke at 4am (FL time 7am) and went to 24 hr Wal-Mart to buy me "appropriate" dishes and silverware (they said mine isn't heavy enough) for my belated...
  6. 6:00 P.M. Church of Nazarene, Redlands, CA
  7. It's natural to not want to eat--when you feel so good not eating and run a risk of getting sick or stressed about getting cc'd when you eat! This is why anorexia can be a side effect of celiac. It feels good to go without food. When I first got dx, I got very thin from not eating and I had to make a rule that I would eat fruit at 9PM if I hadn't eaten...
  8. Couldn't find the video, but did a search and found lots of good blog stuff about it.
  9. When I get the doubtful response, I usually add, "Yeah, I'm lucky all I have to do is stay on a gluten free diet. It's better than having to take medicine or get shots. My brother's throat swells and he could die from eating poultry and he almost got killed by a fireant bite! Plus, if I didn't follow the diet, I could get lymphoma or be like the 27 year...
  10. I had coconut cake, cupcakes, and brownies for my birthday. My best friend was going to be in Vegas for my bday, and so she invited me and I invited my other friend from New Orleans. It was so fun. My Major was still away, so it was perfect for just girls. My bff carried 2 bakery boxes on the plane from Texas! (From Lil' Aussie Bakery in San Antonio...

  13. By the way, you can't get just any turkey (many are injected with broth). Nothing a celiac eats can even touch the same cutting board, knives, dishes, etc. as anything with gluten, due to cross contamination. My friend made gluten free cornbread stuffing last year. It was a hit with everyone. She also made a Quinoa stuffing, which was kinda good...
  14. Kinnickinnick gluten-free Graham Crackers + chocolate + marshmallows = Yum to the Oh Yeah! I never thought my trigger would be tripped by a plain ol' graham cracker! I have yet to master the way I got it once to be soft and warm in the microwave. They are no where near chalky. So nice. Unfortunately, I also laid my hands on some Andean Dream Quinoa...
  15. Hi Brendy,

Was surfing around on internet and found your comments on Celiac convention in Pasadena...I guess you didn't make it to our booth (Tia's Bakery)....also, I was reading about your trip to LA and Whole Foods - you didn't find our product there either! Please search us out....we're in the refrigerated bakery section. Marilyn

  16. Most people who feel badly due to food, enjoy not eating. When one feels so much better, the last thing they want to do is put food in their mouth and risk feeling badly again. Hence, anorexia is a side effect of celiac, and probably other food intolerance issues. Be careful. My brother just did a 40 day fast (drinking only fruit smoothies) and he is...
  17. Dating Island Boy encouraged a couple trips to L.A., so I multi-tasked...got to taste goodies from The Sensitive Baker (everything was frozen, which was disappointing), but I tried several things, and the only things I'd repeat are the cupcakes and the cookies. I also tried Mani's Bakery and Cafe, which is supposed to carry gluten-free selections in the...
  18. I always get the 2 piece leg and thigh combo with pinto beans and corn on the cob. Love it every time, and I'm uber-sensitive. I've had it for 2 or 3 years and only gotten sick once (I imagine from cc).
  19. Usually, they'll have no problem opening a new tub for you. With a freshly cleaned scoop, it works! That's what I do at Baskin Robbins! (If people order a double scoop, and one flavor has gluten, the gluten-free kind could be cc'd) if they use the same scooper or if the scooper touched the gluten ice cream as they put it on top)
  20. Maybe more responses would've come if you'd posted in the travel section.
  21. Z's Pizza, Pizza Fusion, Tony Roma's (ribs), Joe's Crab Shack, P.F. Chang's, Chic-Fil-A (to die for waffle fries), Chili's, Ciao Bella (gluten-free pasta), The Spaghetti Factory (gluten-free pasta), Carino's (Italian). Most of these have gluten-free menus online or at the restaurant. There are also bakeries like Sweet Addictions and The Sensitive Baker...
  22. Very difficult. I think I ate something dry and bland after giving the manager the 3rd degree. I re-gift gift cards that I can't use.
  23. I have also wondered about this. Like the limes and garnishes that have been touched by fingers and stuff. (Remember all the germs they found on lemons-you're never supposed to get a lemon in your iced tea!) Also, blended drinks- how well are the blenders cleaned between uses. Also, just bartender's hands. I feel like their fingers might contaminate...
  24. Chocolate shavings are a possibility. Celiacs cannot have many types of chocolate, including Godiva and Lindt and many others.
  25. I visited Wisconsin last summer and it was like Heaven for Celiacs! I was in the Madison area, and there was a pizza place w/gluten-free pizza, dessert, and beer called Bunky's and a farmer's market where a gluten free table was set up every week. There were gluten free bakeries, too. Google the celiac group for that area and check out the restaurant...
