  1. I had a lot of breast tenderness after about a month gluten-free, went on the board to ask about it, & several members mentioned they had gained a cup size... sure enough, my bras were too small, hence the discomfort... never would have occurred to me, but my feeling was just like yours, undressing at night felt much as it did when pregnant or nursing.

Try going braless for a day & see how you feel-- that's how I figured it out. I felt instant relief.

I guess I should mention that I'm not post-menopausal-- but I still think you might be in the same situation.

  2. I don't have gluten-free kids, but for myself, I'm partial to Neutrogena brand, since most of their products are gluten-free, & they will send you a definite list unlike many cya companies. (There was one posted on this board, I'll try to search for it. But it may be out of date...)

    edit: Open Original Shared Link

Their sunscreens are not all gluten-free though; I use Banana Boat sunscreen.

  3. Thanks Leah - I didn't know about the reflux/heartburn thing with peppermint. That's why this board is so great...all together, we're an amazingly genious person!

I know what you mean! I've learned so much from you all.

There is somebody who has done a study showing that the amalgamated wisdom of a large group beats the "experts" in most fields... I'd be willing to bet we'd beat 99% of doctors!

  4. An MD with an open mind!!!! Wow! Hen's teeth! There are 4 MD's in my family and I've been to a lot of medical community events and all ,but have met maybe a handful of open minded MD's. You're special!

I'm new to this forum but have been gluten-free for quite some time. Self DX. (I was right.Gluten hurts!) I'm somewhat "into" home remedies. Bananas help. I don't drink often so no help there. I avoid too much rich food (restaurants usually are) and fast food(no offence anyone) isn't worth the money you spend on icky tasting food.Except IN and OUT.In California I never got sick there unless I overdid the fries. There isn't an IN and OUT in Texas so no fast food.

My best remedy is old fashioned and should be tried in very small amounts first! Catnip tea. I'm not a feline so, no, I don't get high. My cat will tho. I put several leaves of Catmint in water, boil it,add tea and a LOT of sugar because catnip tastes hideous. In summer I pour the whole cup over a PLASTIC cup of ice for a more refreshing, cool beverage in our H*llish Texas heat in the summer.

Don't mind my spelling I'm too lazy for spell check and I'm very dyslexic. Sorry.

Cautions about Catnip/ catnip teas. Catnip is kind of like Chamomeal. It's a naturally occuring "weed" from Europe that has seditive properties. It is not hallucinogenic(no DHT or alkaloid compounds),it IS a seditive for a lot of people so don't drive, use heavy machinery or make big decisions if you feel sleepy from it!Catnip/mint isn't regulated by any government agency. You'll have to try it on your own. I have never heard of a negative reaction but I'm never looked for them or done a comprehensive study or anything. I'm just a stay-at-home-mom.

It's in the mint family. If you don't tolerate real mint, don't bother trying it.

Easy to grow in full sun. In the right areas(moist, cool, loamy acid soil where you can grow Camellias,Azaleas etc... )it will turn into it's own version of Kudzu and choke out everything else! No joke! Choke out the grass and everything. Henbit is also in the mint family and it will take over the lawn. I grow mine in a container.

Let's say you live in a hot climate with alkaline soil and want to grow it. It will take over anywhere you water on any kind of regular basis. It will even grow in a pond.

So....if you'd like to grow Catnip/mint container it. If you have great soil container it over cement.PJ

Hey PJ, I have catmint in my garden. Think it's related to catnip but not exactly the same. (Cats still love to roll in it.) Do you think it would be safe to try a tea of it?

  5. Susan, sounds like a sort of R-Glutening to me, a little cc from brother & ex-girlfriend, & then you went & took a bite of the real thing! Hope he's out of your system soon.

Judy, nice to see your radiant smile!

Celia, there was an E coli outbreak in the water of the town next door. What's going on here!!!???

    Leah

p.s. I typed g f for girlfriend & it came out gluten free!

  6. Really? Hm....Which flavor did you get? I've eaten them before without a problem, but I haven't had them for a long time.

Mine were plain sea salt, but I'm also wondering if there is a specific problem for me with soy flour. Other soy products haven't bothered me, but MiDel gingersnaps do & they have soy flour too. Of course they could have been cc too as they're made in a wheat facility... Who knows, I may be barking up the wrong tree, this is a fairly recent issue.

  7. I've posted a couple of times about how MiDel Gingersnaps bothered me. Well today I had similar symptoms from Soy Crisps (by Genisoy). They both contain soy flour. The odd thing is, tofu, soy sauce, &c. don't seem to cause trouble. Nor does other bean flour, as far as I've noticed. Is there something specific to soy flour? Or is it just a coincidence?

    Anybody else noticed this?

  8. As Sherri says, peppermint is soothing-- but be careful if your problem is heartburn or reflux, it can make it worse.

Ginger is renowned for curbing nausea, especially motion sickness.

But it is better to pin down the cause of your distress & attend to that rather than treating symptoms-- if you are gluten intolerant no treatment will help you as much as ridding yourself of gluten!
