  1. Also, at one Wendy's (haven't noticed at others, I saw workers putting a fried something else (can't remember what) in a rack right above the french fryers, I guess to keep warm. Strong chance of crumbs falling in. I've eaten Wendy's fries in the past and have never had suspected a reaction to them, but they're off my list now. richard
  2. Never found one that isn't gluten-free. If it doesn't list wheat or malt, it's almost certainly gluten-free. richard
  3. The comment about MFS is just flat-out wrong. richard
  4. Of course this in one of those things with no pat answer. It all depends on the person, the amount of damage, what and how much you ate, and so on. richard
  5. As Peter said, the limit is most definitely not zero. In fact, Europe allows Codex low-gluten wheat starch, which most people on this list would probably never even touch. richard
  6. Smoking does NOT keep you from having celiac or being damaged by it. Instead, you're damaging yourself two ways, by eating gluten and by smoking. I was a pack-a-day smoker when I got extremely ill from celiac and smoking didn't stop me from having it. richard
  7. On the contrary, in the U.S. most don't. In fact, I can't name one that does have gluten. Canada is different. richard
  8. No need to get paranoid. My father is 78 and wasn't even diagnosed until he was 70. As someone else pointed out, older folks are less likely to be on discussion groups like this. richard
  9. Doesn't seem common to me. richard
  10. Caramel color is safe. If it says modified food starch but doesn't list wheat, it's going to be safe. richard
  11. Never heard of a mayo that's not gluten-free. I wonder what the ingredients are. richard
  12. Most mainstream salsas I know about are indeed gluten-free. Remember that any wheat would have to be listed, as it was in the salsa that started this thread. Rye and oats won't be in salsa. That leaves barley, which is usually listed as malt. Has anybody found out why Pace was delisted? Is wheat or anything that could hide barley now in the ingredients...
  13. Lindt hasn't been gluten-free in the U.S. since I was diagnosed 7 years ago. But there are many, many excellent chocolates that are gluten-free. richard
  14. It's gluten-free, although not the one with pancakes, of course. richard
  15. "Richard not to be rude, but they did not used to be gluten-free. I know this for a fact. My mom called and confirmed after I spent Thanksgiving night in the ER due to the butterball turkey my grandma made for dinner. (back then we ate at 2 P.M. for holiday dinners, not sure why)." You're not being rude. I don't know about 20 years ago, but there are...
  16. "Many turkeys have a broth added, that broth can contain barley hidden in natural flavors. It is true that if there is wheat in the broth that it will be listed but that is not the case for barley or malt which is the bigger risk. If you go for a turkey that is not prebasted and does not have broth on the label you should be fine." I've called the USDA...
  17. "Don't worry about the brand name, just look for an all natural turkey with no additives and no preservatives. That's the only way to know it's gluten free " I'm sorry, but that is NOT the only way. richard
  18. "I also am leary about anything they inject because they have many ways to disguise msg and probably gluten also on the label." True for MSG. But, once again, on meats like turkey, gluten CANNOT be hidden. It will be plainly listed. Period. richard
  19. "I know Butter Ball wasn't several years ago, they injected some gluteney juice stuff into them." Not true. I've been gluten-free more than 7 years and BB has been gluten-free that whole time. richard
  20. "Has anyone had a problem with the Parrot Bay flavored drinks? Is it the malt that makes it not gluten free? Apologies for my ignorance." Any alcohol that's malted is NOT gluten-free. Is Parrot Bay malted?
  21. gfp, I DID go to the Captain Morgan's homepage (NOT Diego) and they did not list a white rum there. I did misread the Parrot Bay ingredients, mistaking "flavors" for "spices." So I in fact did go look this up before I posted. I have always said that I believe that distilled alcohol WITHOUT gluten added after distilling is gluten-free. I do not claim...
  22. ALL Capt. Morgan rum is spiced. richard
  23. IMO, Capt. Morgan's is gluten-free. Some manufacturers avoid saying it IS gluten-free because the U.S. has no gluten-free standard yet. If the barrels were "coated in wheat paste," I imagine they would say that. richard
  24. "I have read this somewhere before too, right now I can't find a link, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. When we hear something that may be a problem, it's always good to mention it, that way others do know enough to check and make sure what they ARE using doesnt contain gluten. Thank you for" the warning Whimsikay!! Well golly that proves it, Deb....
