Has anyone had any good experiences with Black Forest? Everything I search shows they are safe but how are the certified gluten free but still have an allergen warning on the back that states they are made in the same facility as other products that contain gluten? It is really irritating that GFCO would certify a company that does not have a dedicated facility for allergen sensitive products. I am very hesitant on trying these. What are your experiences?

When I first put an orange flavored TruJoy Organic Original Fruit Chew in my mouth and began chewing, I soon noticed an intense explosion of orange flavor. It reminded me a bit of the Starburst candies that I used to eat as a child—but instead of containing corn syrup and artificial junk—these chews are organic and contain real fruit juice and cane sugar. The texture and chewiness was great, and it seemed to last forever. Other flavors in the package included strawberry, cherry and lemon, and each of them was just as wonderful and intense as the orange. I also got a bag of TruJoy Organic Choco Chews, and again, when I put one in my mouth and chewed it I was brought back to an old favorite of mine called a Tootsie Roll, but like the Organic Fruit Chews, the Organic Choco Chews use only organic and natural ingredients, and you can really tell the difference. Another think I like about this company is that they are a member of “1% For The Planet,” and donate a minimum of 1% of their revenue to organizations that support environmental causes. If you like healthier versions of some of your favorite candies, and like companies that contribute to the environment, TruJoy chews are a perfect fit. For more info visit their site

When I first tried SweetLeaf® Organics Organic Stevia Sweetener I was amazed. How could it be sugar- and gluten-free and not contain calories, carbohydrates, artificial ingredients, aspartame, sucralose, methanol, etc.? To me it tastes exactly like sugar, yet it won't trigger the same dreaded glycemic response. This sweetener is not just for diabetics, as my 11 year old daughter will soon find out, it is for anyone who wants to avoid the pitfalls of eating too much sugar—and the best thing of all, at least to me, is that it is also gluten-free. It is available in 35- or 70-packet boxes, or a shaker jar, and they even make a liquid stevia version which comes in a variety of flavors. For more information, visit www.SweetLeaf.com.

Celiac.com 02/18/2021 - Just when you thought that something great like Little Northern Bakehouse's gluten-free sliced sandwich breads couldn't get any better, the company has launched a new line of USDA Certified Organic, and GFCO Certified Gluten-Free sandwich breads that include the following varieties: Delicious Organic Gluten-Free Original Sandwich Bread Delicious Organic Gluten-Free Ancient Grain Sandwich Bread Delicious Organic Gluten-Free Oatmeal Sandwich Bread Like all Little Northern Bakehouse breads, this new line is packed with highly nutritious ingredients and fiber—each slice contains 7% of your daily recommended value of fiber. Celiac.com 02/12/2021 - If you haven't heard of popped sorghum before, you might be surprised to learn that it tastes even better than regular old popped corn, and it's even more healthy for you. Let's face it, corn is one of the top eight major allergens, so it's about time that some real competition came along, and Nature Nate's Popped Sorghum stands up to the challenge. Besides being gluten-free, Nature Nate's line of Popped Sorghum is also organic, low in lectins, non-GMO, easy to digest, has no hulls, has a lower glycemic index, and may also lower your cholesterol. But the most important thing is its taste, and we tried three different varieties, and were blown away by how great each one of them tasted. The first type we tried was their Popped Sorghum Avocado Oil & Sea Salt. It was lightly salted, and had a clean, satisfying taste that made you want to eat more. The avocado oil gave it a light, crisp-tasting flavor. The second variety was their Snack-ORAC Black Popped Sorghum Avocado Oil & Pink Himalayan Sea Salt. It turns out that black sorghum has a ton of enzymes, in fact it's enzyme content is on par with barley, so I noticed that this one really seemed to help aid overall digestion, and it had a dark, rich flavor that was both unique and outstanding. The third variety we tried was their Snack-ORAC Black Popped Sorghum Spicy Guacamole. This one also uses black sorghum, which I love, and it had a nice blend of spicy seasoning that gave it the perfect little kick—not too spicy—but just right. One other thing you need to know: It's really easy to eat an entire bag of any one of these, and we finished three bags very quickly. Whether you are allergic to corn, want to avoid GMO's, or you just want a snack that beats popped corn, Nature Nate's Gluten-Free Popped Sorghum snacks are the answer! Visit our site for more info.

For lunch today, I had gluten-free spaghetti pasta topped with Dave's Gourmet Hearty Marinara Gluten-Free & Organic Pasta Sauce—and the sauce was definitely hearty! I immediately noticed the large chunks of fresh tasting tomatoes and garlic in the sauce which was balanced perfectly with organic basil and onions. I love that this sauce uses only organic ingredients and real extra virgin olive oil as some pasta sauces use less expensive versions like canola oil. As you can probably guess, Dave's also doesn't use any artificial ingredients, colors, or flavorings. Another plus is that this marinara sauce doesn't taste too salty which is my pet peeve with many pasta sauces (if I want salt I'll add it or use Parmesan, thank you). In fact, this sauce has just the right amount of saltiness which means that the taste of the tomatoes, garlic and basil really come through in every bite. Overall, Dave's Hearty Marinara sauce is an authentic, full bodied, and very rich-flavored marinara sauce that is not only healthy, but tastes great. I would recommend it to anyone—and not just those who are on a gluten-free diet. For more info visit: davesgourmet.com. Review written by Scott Adams.

Celiac.com 08/11/2015 - St. Claire's Organics makes many fine candies, but since I have celiac disease I am especially interested in ones that offer more than just flavor. St. Claire's Organics Tummy Soothers and Ginger Pastilles contain medicinal herbs like ginger, slippery elm, cardamom, fennel and peppermint which have been used for centuries to treat stomach and other ailments. It is nice to see a company that understands the benefit of blending them into their candies to offer their customers more than just taste. Neither of these gluten-free products contained dairy, casein, corn, soy, egg, nut, fish or shell fish, and both were also vegan, Kosher and GMO-free. Another big plus was that neither of these “candies” tasted too sweet, which I really liked—the sugar taste did not overpower the taste of the herbs. The Ginger Pastilles had a distinct—but not overpowering—ginger flavor that left a very nice, clean aftertaste. The Tummy Soothers had a slightly minty herbal flavor that was very pleasant. Although I did not have a stomach ache when I tried these, I have the feeling that they really would be very helpful to anyone who did. Both of these candies provide interesting and unique flavors that you just can't find anywhere else except in products made by St. Claire's Organics. For more info visit their site.

Celiac.com 11/21/2014 - I recently had the opportunity to try an outstanding pasta sauce made by Steve Schirripa of "The Sopranos" fame, and I must say that I could not be more impressed. When given the option between homemade sauce or jarred, I normally opt for homemade, however, this perfectly made marinara sauce offers a clear exception to my rule. This rich tasting sauce has the perfect mixture of spice, seasonings and quality ingredients—and it tastes wonderful on your favorite gluten-free pasta. Besides tasting great it is also certified organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, kosher and contains no added sugar.

King Soba Organic Buckwheat Gluten-Free Ramen
Celiac.com Sponsor: Review posted an article in Product Reviews
Celiac.com 05/08/2014 - Ramen are traditional Japanese-style noodle cakes which unfold while you cook them. King Soba's Organic Buckwheat Ramen are the healthiest and the best tasting ramen you can buy. It is made with only two ingredients, organic buckwheat flour and water, these ramen noodles can be used in a variety of ways – as a snack, in stir-fry dishes or mixed in with broth to provide taste and texture. Buckwheat comes from a plant that is in the rhubarb family (who would have known?) and it has a unique nutty flavor. You'll never eat the other kind of ramen again after you've tried these noodles from King Soba. For more information visit our site. -
Pure Market Express Organic Gluten-Free Lemon Tart
Celiac.com Sponsor: Review posted an article in Product Reviews
Celiac.com 07/11/2012 - When I first read the box for this lemon tart, I wasn't exactly excited. I didn't think anything that was gluten-free, free of added sugar, vegan and raw could taste like anything other than cardboard and/or grass. Oh how wrong I was: this lemon tart completely blew me away. I am not even gluten-free and I can confidently say this is the most delicious lemon tart I have ever tasted. It is perfectly tangy, sweet (without any weird aftertaste) and somehow it manages to taste creamy despite a lack of dairy. The product developers at Pure Market Express must be wizards. That is the only explanation I can muster for how insanely yummy this tart is. -

This product is unique for many reasons. It comes in two bottles, the larger of the two bottles contains the gel (Moodstruck black transplanting gel), and the smaller bottle contains the Moodstruck green tea natural fibers. This dynamic duo is designed to provide a 300% increase in thickness and volume to your eyelashes, while still looking 100% natural. As with EpiLynx by Dr. Liia's other lotions, creams and cosmetics, these two items are made from high quality, all-natural ingredients such as collagen, propolis, Brazilian palm glue, black iron oxide, and 100% natural fibers taken from the complanulaceae of green tea. Apply a thin coating of the Moodstruck black transplanting gel (the bigger bottle) and let it dry, then apply the Moodstruck natural fibers (smaller bottle). Your eyelashes will be instantly transformed into fuller, thicker looking lashes. Repeat this process until you're happy with the volume and thickness of your lashes, and tour new lashes will be waterproof, yet will wash off with warm water and a facial cleanser. Anyone who is gluten sensitive should consider replacing any cosmetics that contain wheat with gluten-free versions, and certainly your mascara should be no exception. EpiLynx by Dr. Liia's gluten-friendly line of high quality cosmetic products make it simple for you to make this transition. 4 Easy Ways to Save Money on Organic and Gluten-Free Food
Nicole Vela posted an article in Additional Concerns
Celiac.com 07/29/2014 - Food costs are rising and eating healthy and gluten-free on a budget is becoming more challenging. If you experience sticker shock while buying some of your favorite foods check out these easy ways to save money on organic and gluten-free food. Use coupons. Yes there are a lot of coupons on healthy foods. Here are two sites I use frequently: Common Kindness is a printable website that comes out with coupons for whole foods and organic products. There are typically 75 or more coupons at any given time. Choose to browse page by page, or narrow your search by category or brand. Mambo Sprouts is a website for natural and organic products. The printable coupon section of the website offers you savings on about 30 different products at any given time. They also have coupon books they mail out usually during the spring and the fall to your home. The books are full of healthy, organic and gluten-free coupons. Shop store brands and at stores that label their gluten-free foods. We have Aldi’s stores in the Midwest. Aldi’s was one of the first stores to realize the need for gluten free labels on their brand and have recently introduced a line of gluten free baking products, organic foods and carry many other gluten-free foods like corn flour, granola bars, tortilla chips and of course produce. Triumph Dining offers the Gluten-free Grocery guide and app that helps you find over 44,000 brand-name and store-brand gluten-free products at grocery stores across the U.S. There are a lot of big brands that make gluten-free food being able to find the products can you save you a lot of money. Start a garden and grow your own food. I recommend putting in a raised bed or doing a few container plants if you live in an apartment.Look for items that have a high yield, grow well in your area and can be frozen easily. We have had a lot of luck with bell peppers, squash and sugar snap peas. Start small while you learn the ropes and add more year by year. These are just a few of the ways I cut cost on my grocery bill. Please share some of your favorite ways. -
This fun candy associated with the Easter holiday is better than ever now that Surf Sweets has made them organic. These jelly beans are made without corn syrup – which is a huge plus – they are sweetened with organic cane sugar and organic tapioca syrup. They are also free of artificial colors and flavors. I'm not sure what makes them taste so good...maybe it's the combination of organic grape juice and organic black carrot juice – who knew there were black carrots? For a sweat treat that's healthier than most, you have to try these. Don't wait as The Easter Bunny is almost here: www.surfsweets.com. Review written by Patricia Seeley.

Nuwi Organic Gluten-Free Quinoa Smoothie with Banana
Gryphon Myers posted an article in Product Reviews
If you follow health food trends, chances are that you've heard of the superfood pseudograin, quinoa. It is nutrient-rich, packs a complete protein, is high in fiber, etc. etc. The bottom line is that you should probably be trying to come up with a way to integrate quinoa into your diet, whether gluten-free or not. Nuwi offers an easy solution with their gluten-free quinoa smoothie with banana, which is not only gluten-free, but lactose-free with no sugar added as well. These smoothies are a great way to take your quinoa on the go, and they actually retain that fresh-blended smoothie quality, even though they're totally shelf-stable. They're relatively light on sugar, and pack 3g of fiber and 3g of complete protein in one tiny 10 oz., 160 calorie bottle. They're worth a try, especially if you've been looking for a way to up your quinoa intake. For more information visit their site. Finally someone has made a taco seasoning that is not only certified gluten-free and organic, but it also doesn't contain the usual preservatives, artificial colorings and flavorings—including MSG! Another plus about this mix is that it is salt-free, because most taco seasonings are loaded with salt—I like to control the saltiness of my food, thank you. The tacos I made with Spicely Taco Seasoning came out great, and the mix is also free of milk, soy, eggs, fish, shell fish and nuts, for those of you who avoid these common allergens. GoodOnYa Peanut Butter and Honey Organic Gluten-Free Snack Bar
Gryphon Myers posted an article in Product Reviews
There are countless 'health' food snack bars and protein bars on the market, many of which aren't as healthy as their makers would have you think. On the other side of the spectrum, you have snack bars that are loaded with various superfoods and are really quite nutritious, but taste like cardboard. The Peanut Butter Honey GoodOnYa bar is what I would call a perfect middle ground – it is rich and flavorful, but filled with highly nutritious organic ingredients. Even better, it's not only gluten-free, but completely soy-free, dairy-free and grain-free as well. When I need a quick snack on the go, I usually go for fruit and a container of yogurt, which I feel is enough of an indulgence. After trying this peanut butter GoodOnYa bar though, I am seriously considering adding it to my morning routine. I adore peanut butter, and in this context, I don't have to feel bad about eating it. These are high quality organic peanuts that are tested by a third party for mold and bacteria (peanuts have gotten bad press over these issues in the past). These peanuts though, are just a rock-solid source of protein and vitamin E. This is a truly fillerless bar. Rather than grains, soy or corn, they've included a collection of superfood seeds: organic sprouted flax seeds and organic raw sesame and hemp seeds. These are all low GI 'slow burners;' the end result is a bar that fills you up and gives you energy without a sugar crash. The people at GoodOnYa have crafted a snack/protein bar with real integrity. It's deliciously peanut-buttery, and full of things that your body will eventually thank you for. Highly recommended! For more information, visit their website. Note: Articles that appear in the "Gluten-Free Food Reviews" section of this site are paid advertisements. For more information about this see our Advertising Page. -
Crackers are usually thought of as crispy, baked things made out of flour (usually nutritionally-devoid refined white flour). Foods Alive's Organic Onion Garlic Flax Crackers are a whole different kind of snack, but they are way more nutritious, and also quite yummy! If asked to describe these crackers, I would say they’re like flat, crispy cakes of unprocessed flax seeds that have been compressed together. These are not the high glycemic rice, corn or potato flour/starch junk food crackers you’re used to – they’re 90% raw, USDA organic, and made almost entirely from a highly nutritious, unprocessed superfood that has shown some evidence of reducing heart disease, cancer, etc. etc.: flaxseed! All that might sound too nutritious to taste good, but these crackers are actually quite palatable. This onion and garlic variety is absolutely bursting with flavor. There's no weird consistency or anything like that going on either, as one might expect from eating, well, raw seeds (no, you don't have to be a bird to enjoy these)! Some gluten-free crackers that too closely try to emulate saltines or other 'conventional' crackers end up with a weird grainy texture that some find off-putting. There's nothing like that going on here: just seeds, and tasty stuff holding them together. For more information visit their website. Note: Articles that appear in the "Gluten-Free Food Reviews" section of this site are paid advertisements. For more information about this see our Advertising Page.
